Atomic Pushups: How a Single Max Set Changes Your Fitness
A single set of pushups has the power to completely transform your fitness. I know that's a bold claim, but I can assure you from my own experience, it checks out. How? The answer lies in the compounding power of habit. In his bestselling book Atomic Habits, author James Clear reminds us of a powerful truth. Tiny changes produce remarkable results over time. He says, “All big things come from small beginnings. The seed of every habit is a single, tiny decision." The magic, therefore, isn't in the act itself, but in the repetition of it. He goes on to say that, "Every action you take is a vote for the type of person you wish to become." Your decisions form your habits, but then, over time, your habits form you. This is certainly true in fitness. Getting fit is a result, but being fit? That's a habit that you build into who you are. You must become the kind of person who does things on autopilot every day to prioritize your health and fitness-and you do that one small action, one good decision, or dare I say, one set of pushups at a time.

Pro tip: Want to make your pushups more difficult so you can focus more on building strength over endurance and metabolic conditioning? Add a weighted vest or a ruck pack with 20 or 30 pounds in it. Shout out to the GoRuck 3.0 which is the backpack I'm using in this video

    Just do pushups, pull-ups, squat

    • @fitnessforsmartpeople
      @fitnessforsmartpeople 5 днів тому

      Also a great place to start. The biggest thing is find something you can sustain and build a base from. Simple beats complicated. ua-cam.com/users/shortsNZ5CsYe7IH4

    I mean I guess if you're trying one exercise to cover your whole body you probably want a clean and press. Is this fine for your legs and front delts if you can only do one exercise? Sure. Probably not a great exercise for any singular body part though since you're just heavily taxing your body with the squat while limiting the actual strength component to an overhead press. Probably best to just do a clean and press.

    • @Kefka2010
      @Kefka2010 7 днів тому

      Actually, you're likely better off doing normal squats and then 10 seconds after your squats doing X number of push-ups, take a normal rest and finish off your sets that way. That's likely the superior method vs this. Clean and press is probably your best singular exercise.

      @@Kefka2010 those are all good options. I wouldn't personally build an entire program around one exercise either, as obviously, there will be some holes in such a simple plan. That being said, it's great to build around a few simple but effective compound movements when someone is just getting going with building a fitness base. Start simple, build the base, and scale from there.

      This was just a fun workout I did with friends. I would not recommend it except in highly trained individuals at above average strength levels. Always follow a slow progression when scaling weight and intensity in workouts.
