So let me get this straight, if you choose a diesel it costs more in gas and gas is harder to find, and if you don't add more weight to the payload it bounces around a lot more with a stiffer suspension; and if you have regular affordable tires on it you get the Tasmanian devil look sitting in an extra high and longer vehicle making it difficult to park at a shopping center. The good news is you can fit more dangerous dogs in the back. The screen is tiny and the noise level produced by the diesel is something fitted for around airports. Nope, I am good with my 2023 F-150 power boost full hybrid and 7.2 kilowatt generator in the back, it is silent in the morning and a sleeper with enough power to push it down the road as fast as I need it to. Just cant tow the house or a 12,000lb Bertam but who wants to sit in a truck all day. Not me Id rather be fishing or camping.

I just got ducked today for the first time and I admit it brought a smile to my face. At the same time I don't give a duck. And buying your own duck is like Jeep stolen valor. 😂

Its also a good way to get pulled over, dashboards with clutter can trigger a traffic stop, it's a distraction.

I've got both the answer basically depends on what your doing. If you regularly haul and tow 50% or more of the f150s capacity or going off road alot get a superduty. If the f150 hauls and tows what you need it will be the cheaper smoother riding. Superdutys are made for weight and hard use like working and logging. If your going to be driving around empty lower psi and the ride smoothes out.

If you don't like it give it away. I love getting them. They make my day. What's so wrong with getting a duck. It's this kind of cinicism that has caused humanity to become so angry and rude!!!

I own a 17yrs old jeep and ducking is perfectly fine with me. Fun way of interacting with jeepers and my kids love it. In canada 🇨🇦 at the auto show, the jeep booth had a basket of rubber ducks.

You make valid, respectful points. I suggest if you don't want the duck, pass it to another Jeep owner or even to a child (with parents permission of course). Don't be afraid to light up someone's day and pass that goodwill along. Random acts of kindness are rare in today's world and should be encouraged every chance we get.

My Jeep love goes back to the 1970s, and my dad's orange CJ. My first adult new car purchase was a Wrangler in 1997. I have driven nothing but Jeep, until circumstances beyond my control made me give up my Wrangler in 2017. Now, in 2024, I'm back with a new Wrangler, and the duck thing is freaking me out. I got "ducked" within a week and I'm on the fence about whether I'm going to participate. But I confess, my duck is on the dash.

I could never imagine owning a new jeep, I have respect for the older ones though. New jeeps are absolute trash, they’re not jeep anymore and haven’t been for 20 years.

Haven't been duck'd yet (no idea if non wrangler Jeeps get duck'd or if it's mostly a wrangler thing) but even if it's a more recent tradition, things have to start somewhere.

A couple rebuttal points: 1) I think it's fine to have new traditions in the Jeep community as long as they don't replace old ones, like The Wave! 2) To your rubber waste point- if you get a duck and aren't into it, I'd suggest passing it on rather than trashing it; especially if you see a Jeep with ducks that you'd know they're into it. 3) some community guidelines about duck placement should help, on the mirrors or door handle are ok. The best spot if someone has it would on a step plate. But I don't think people should be moving other people's wiper blades and things like that to put a duck.

Not to mention if you get into an accident, there's FRIGGIN ducks everywhere

The half ton class of trucks (class 2A) have become too soft and their payload numbers have suffered. Add that to the weaker frame, and drivetrain and the choice is pretty obvious. If you need a pickup truck you buy class 2B or class 3.

It is weird. Around here, no jeep that has ever been in 4 low, gets ducked. It is a beauty contest. The real jeeps used off-road a dozen or more weekends a year seem to be exempt. That suits me find. My XJ doesn't need a rubber ducky.

I agree with you. It has gotten out of hand. That said, I just toss them in the center console, eventually giving them to the neighbor’s kids (who LOVE ducking Jeeps). I actually don’t get too many on my JK. Usually, this fad is associated with newer Jeeps like the neighbor-lady, not beat-up jalopies like mine. 😅

I don't want a duck placed on my jeep. If you like them have at it on your own jeep, but I don't want my jeep to look like a popularity contest. If it makes you happy though, have the ducks. So many wildly different Jeep owners out there.
