They are St. Louis treasures. We went into the Lyon Schoolhouse/Museum- the oldest building on the property- and explored the all the lights! It was amazing!

Thabk you😊 I grew up at 2056 Lafayette. I miss the square everyday!
Thank you so much for watching- I'm glad you found the video and I was able to bring you what I saw that day. I really appreciate it. That is awesome to know that you still care about your old place. Thanks for sharing this with me.
Hey Tom, that was great video. Believe me or not I never knew about this stunning site and unfortunatelly never visited, what a pity ( or shame) ! I watched carefully every single minute if this educational video. Hoping for visit this place to see in person. Great job and very many thanks🫡👍👍👍
Thank you! It's really spectacular. You'll really enjoy it if you can go on a nice weather day. It's really breathtaking, unusual, and unique how they built these mounds with their hands. There's nothing like it.
Hey Tom, thanks for posting, appreciated! May I ask u about this video regarding crime rate aboyt stats in STL, what do u think? ua-cam.com/video/PS4IxDP66xw/v-deo.htmlsi=FyxeI00htSkRAhoN
That's a good video- I watched. They're exactly right- the rankings are skewed. We have our issues for sure- just like every other city- but we are not worse than the others- that's for sure- and I have a lot of hope for the future. I've also walked around a heck of a lot just for the videos and I haven't had any problems.
I agree with u. I was very surprised about those crime stats and I see they are not really mirroring the reality of STL. I like the city, spent there my best life time and never ever felt in danger. Well, exception was east STL of course;) Sending to STL greetings and positive energy👍🤝 Keep going pal.
@@Erik101 Thanks again for the positivity.
Tom, It's great. Glad to see this in STL. Hoping u r doing well, continue posting these vids here, I very like them👍
Thanks so much for the support. I really appreciate it. Can't wait for it to warm up some more- stay warm.
Would you happen to know who the owners of the establishment, Colombo's are?
Thanks so much for watching. I think it is still family owned as far as I know.
@organstl I'm asking because I was distantly related to a gentleman from that same area. He has passed on now, but I remember as a child he used to come up to where my family lived and visit and stay for a few days. His name was Mike Colombo. I was a young child back then, would have been mid 70's to mid 80's. His family owned a restaurant I remember my family talking about that. I'm just wondering if that's the same restaurant.
@@deco9863 Yes Mike and Tony opened their restaurant in 1951. There's a good chance that is who you are talking about. Their grandkids run it now I think.
@organstl I hate to keep asking you these questions but I remember when Mike used to visit, his granddaughter used to come with him. Her name was Sharon. Would you happen to know if she's one of the people who are running it now? Thanks in advance
@@organstl Found out a bit more information, Mike's wife was my grandfather's sister. Her name was Laura. Mike and Laura had a daughter whose name was Betty. Betty had a daughter, which would be one of Mike and Laura's grandchildren, her name was Sharon. She used to come up to visit with Laura. Sharon is a few years younger than I.
I grew up in this area in the 1970s. Sorry to see so many old buildings gone to waste.
Thanks so much for watching. Lots of history in the area.
This is my go to place whenever I visit St. Louis. The BBQ sauce on the table is such a great bonus for the fried chicken and definitely fries!
That is a smart choice- I can't blame you. The chicken is amazing. Thanks so much for watching- I'm glad you found the video and thanks for the comment. It's interesting to hear how many people like Hodak's- which is not exactly a surprise rightfully so- ha!
Okay now you are making my Hungry and Jealous. 😂😂 Stay warm and safe. 😊
😂Stay safe and warm also. Can't wait for the snow to melt and warm up.
Ini luar biasa
🙏❤
wow. Last time I saw Christmas at Brewery there were just a outside lights. about 20 years ago. Thank you.
Thanks so much for giving my video a try! I really appreciate it and I'm glad I could bring it to you.
As always, I love your videos Tom!!!
Thanks so much. That is very kind. I really appreciate it. Have a safe and happy New Year!
Nothing better than an O’connells roast beef or burger
You're right- they're terrific. I know many a people who love O'connells. Thanks for watching and the comment- much appreciated.
Never heard of the Gerber Sandwich but it all looked great and bet it tasted even better.
It was great! Ha! Thanks so much for watching again. I really appreciate you. Hope you have a safe and happy New Year!
Itv really is too bad that the constant threat of black mob violence is so bad, that not a lot of people will even think about going there. I was shot at by a noble person of color after a blues game while driving down the road back in the 90's. Nope. Not this pig.
Sure looks good! Hey my dad used to tell me about eating brain sandwiches. I think those may have also originated in St. Louis. Ever heard of them?
Thanks again for watching. That is very interesting comment. Yes I have heard of them but I have not eaten that. They still have places that sell them. My dad also said he didn't eat them but he thinks his dad probably did and he remembers a place on Gravois and Mackenzie that had a big sign out front advertising brain sandwiches. Very interesting.
If you havent tried them yet, you should try Old Vienna's "All Dressed" chips! Their Riplets are a little too hot to be enjoyable for me.
That sounds interesting. I will keep an eye out for them. I'm sure they are too much fire for me too- but it is always interesting testing these things. Ha!
how could I possibly suddenly be so damn hungry!
Ha! LOL. That is so funny!!! I appreciate the comment.
That food looked extremely delicious. Will definitely try this out for myself sometime!
Awesome- thanks for watching and I hope you enjoy it!
My first job was at Ruma's Deli (at South County Mall). I made so many of these.
That is awesome- such a classic. My sister knew someone who worked on Manchester and she got a lot of ideas from her! Ha!
Looks good
Thanks so much for watching and the comment. Really appreciate it again.
Tom, hope you had a great Christmas and have a happy new year! Thanks for the great videos.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Thanks for the kind words, thinking of me and checking in on the channel.
This is my favorite video so far!!
@@melissaorgan4543 Thank you!
Too bad it’s the most dangerous area in St. Louis 😱
They used to have one in Branson but that one closed and became a different Italian restaurant
I looked it up! Thanks for the comment. Looks like a good local place still.
Have you done a tour of Cherokee Street and that area, i checked videos but i may have missed.
Thanks so much for watching- the one on Benton Park Neighborhood takes in part of that. We start at Hodak's and eventually get to Cherokee Street and the Lemp Mansion. The other one I have on that is the Cinco de Mayo Parade and Festival- that is just of the festival with the people and food. That is what I have on Cherokee so far- thanks for the question.
Love the Hill- lived there most of my life.
It's beautiful- thanks again.
@@organstl I shared your video with my brother and daughters they also resided on the hill for many years.
@@ernestclary6035 Thank you so much- that's awesome! I really appreciate it!
I didn’t know REO was here in 1985- I seen them in 1972 and then again at the Riverport Amphitheater a couple of years ago.
Awesome- great band. Riverport will always be Riverport. Ha!
I stop there quite often love the Italian Sausage wrapped in the pretzel bun- I remember a a kid seeing the street vendors selling the pretzel sticks in a small brown bag.
Yes! My dad talks about that all the time. He grew up in Benton Park and went to St. Agnes grade school- and there was a man selling pretzels nearby.
I lived at 12th and barten for ten years left when government section 8 came in
Thanks for watching!
The spice shop in there has the best chili powder- I moved from St.Louis and I do miss the market.
Thanks for watching! I really appreciate it. I'm glad you found the video!
I'm a St. Louis Union Carpenter. Under my own LLC, I build spiral staircases, custom tiny houses, and camper trailers. I enjoy custom projects and the challenges they are accompanied with. When a person focuses on bringing ideas into reality, does one create truly, the only one of a kind in the world assets to be utilized snd enjoyed for generations. I'm Tim, and helped build the home addressed 1107 Dolman, Lafayette Square....
That is awesome that you contributed to such a unique, beautiful neighborhood! This is fantastic!
The rail road McArthur bridge was NOT part of route 66. The route 66 bridge is on Riverview blvd. next to the current I-270 bridge.
Thanks for watching- I appreciate your time. It can be quite confusing- there were many bypass and alternative routes. It did go over the MacArthur Bridge- which included a car deck- before it went over the Old Chain of Rocks Bridge- which it went over in the 1930s. There are all kinds of different routes and re-routes that were part of it also. It's hard to keep track of all of it.
@organstl Oh.....ok... thanks 👍
yup. enjoyed that bacon sandwich plenty of timesat crown candy
Yes! 😀 They don't hold back on the bacon!
My old neighborhood. Lived on McRee, went to Roosevelt High school, attended Mass at St Margaret of Scotland, and worked at Cardinal Glennon. Thank you.
Thanks so much for taking the time to watch and sharing your story! I'm glad you found it and really appreciate it.
It's called Dog Town because some of the Asian contingents brought over dogs (to eat!) and they all broke free (or were set loose?) of their pens and scattered into the surrounding neighborhoods.. there were supposedly stray dogs all over for many years after the fair closed
Great video! I never knew Butch had STL ties….lived here all my life too. Really, a great video. Thank you for showing our city.
Thanks so much for watching and the kind words- I really appreciate it. Yes, Butch is a St. Louis hero!
Very interesting video. Thanks for posting.
Thanks for watching. I'm glad you found it. I really appreciate it.
I'm assuming Benton is the name on Benton Park. To me it will always be pronounced show tow. I've never heard a person in St Louis especially those born here pronounce it the Way you are some people say gravois differently as well
Yes Benton Park is also named after Thomas Hart Benton. I also say "Show tow" like everyone else but was just pronouncing Auguste Chouteau's name like that for the video- It was pronounced differently, but we have "Americanized" it. Ha!
Soldan high school here
That's awesome. A lot of history there and many legends. That is a cool school to be a part of. I showed that in the Academy/Sherman Park video. You might like that one.
I was going to say that look like the landing
Look up Macklemore and Skylar Grey glorious thats the song they were playing at this parade in 2023.
I did this! It was very good and funny! He's very good. Thanks for the comment- I wasn't paying any attention to that at the time.
❤
Thanks so much for watching.
Does anyone know the home address of Anna Mae Bullock/Tina Turner in The Ville?
Good question.
I was so annoyed when I came all the way to Jefferson Barracks and all the museums were closed, although it was in operating hours! Spent 4 hours driving to the closed museums. But the cemetery was beautiful
Aww that's a shame. That's a sad story but thanks for sharing that. I'm glad you found the video and I could share some of it with you this way. I hope you liked it. Thanks for commenting- I really appreciate it.
Very much enjoyed this video
Thank you so much. I really appreciate this- it brightened my day.
Don't go there. Run by Organized criminal enterprises. This happened over the course of about five years. We don't even stop 🛑 the car there. 😢
Beautiful houses
Thanks for watching. Much appreciated 😀
Why does the CITY OF ST.LOUIS NEGLECT THE RESTORATION OF SOULARD MARKET , PAINTING , FLAKING PAINT EVERYWHERE ?
It is important to keep everything up to date and looking good- one thing I give them credit for are the flowers around the city in the spring and summer. They make things look really nice. I've seen them around Ballpark Village, along Market Street, Laclede's Landing, and all around in different spots- and they do make a difference and make things look good- no one really ever mentions those.
Thanks for posting it. I haven't been the Jefferson Barracks in decades. 🙂
Thanks and you stay safe too 🙏
I got a good history lesson. I worked for Ozark Airlines and TWA from 1984 to 2003. Seems like ancient history based at Lambert Field.
Thanks so much for watching and the comment. TWA was awesome- I still have a paper card of theirs in a box from when I was a kid and we went on a couple of flights. Lots of history here with McDonnell Douglas.
