Hard Time Wiping? Module 6 - Bidet Seats
In this final video of Hard Time Wiping? Let's Talk A-Booty It! we're going to breakdown bidet seats.
The course is meant for people who struggle with wiping after toileting, their family members, and caregivers. People may find themselves having a hard time wiping for many reasons like being unable to twist their back to reach their bottom or they feel back pain.
“Hard Time Wiping? Let’s Talk A-booty It!” teaches toilet techniques and four options to clean up easier after using the bathroom. It helps people maintain their privacy and empowers them to clean up more independently.
Based on my experience working with people who struggle to wipe, I know that figuring out how to clean their booties is a large piece of the puzzle for living at home for a lifetime instead of a nursing home.
You're wiping out (pun intended) the need for caregiver assistance, skin infections, urinary tract infections, falls, and pressure sores. This course is a vehicle for people to drastically improve how they take care of themselves and keep their ability to live at home.
You now have the perfect resource to stop:
Being afraid to talk about this sensitive topic with your doctor and family.
Shaming yourself for “letting yourself go” or becoming a burden on your loved ones.
Feeling hopeless over losing your independence and the possibility of moving away from the comfort of your home.
And begin:
To be independent with personal hygiene again, and
Feeling confident in your ability to take care of yourself!
(FYI: This course is no longer on Podia! It's now free on UA-cam!)

    Hi! I’m a cota and I think these videos are great! I’m having a hard time knowing if I’m throughly cleaning someone- such a how far up do I go when wiping front to back to make sure I’m actually cleaning them well enough? Especially if they can tell me. I think I may book a video call with you. Or write directly to you on your website 😊.

      When assisting clients with wiping, I firmly and gently wipe front to back, and I continue to wipe until I no longer see anything on the toilet paper or wet wipes. Please let me know if I need to clarify anything further.

    They have seatbelts now, heated seats, and a good way to do water exercises easy on the joints. But you do have a point. If I ever got to a point where I needed help cleaning, that would be hard for the care giver. Fortunately I have more than 1 bathroom, one is already almost a walk in . A low 3” threshold. I’ll preserve that one just in case. I’m 68 yrs with 23 spinal discs fused. I just may need that shower, thank you!! Great tips to watch out for💭 thank you for caring ❤ God Bless! What about like floor adhesives people use but just putting them on the built in seat?

    • @toilettalkme
      @toilettalkme 21 день тому

      Yes! You absolutely can add floor adhesives. I would just monitor the skin on your bottom because the friction from the adhesive may cause discomfort or break the skin down. Your booty skin is a little more sensitive than the bottom of your feet!

    Ha! Hands facing in for me. I've already installed 2 grab bars, both vertical. It just seemed like the right way at the time. I will also install one in the tub at an angle, I think. I've put that off, but maybe this will help. I already got a 24 incher for that. At this point I don't need them but anticipate that I will in the future, and did at one time when my back gave me trouble. I'll have to watch the one on length. Thanks for making these videos.

    ooookay I'll be honest, I got a bidet and watched this before using it for the first time. Really don't think you can just go without using toilet paper. That, or I'm doing it very wrong. I let the spray go for well over your suggested minute and it's still not clean. I wiped the first time just to be sure...then I wiped again...and again. Personally, I feel the best method is wipe first, THEN use the bidet to clean off any remains. gf suggested that one and it worked a lot better for me 🤷‍♂

      Sometimes the water stream can also release more bowel, so my first recommendation would be to continue letting the water run. Keep experimenting and trying thing out to make it work best for you. You do what you gotta do do.

    My husband and I use our walk-in tub daily. I have every safety device. Our door opens out, there are two safety bars, our handheld shower is within easy reach. It is then able to be pulled out to the full length of the hose and hung on a wall bracket for my husband to shower. The water tap handles, plug levers and shower diverter are all handles you don’t need to grasp and turn. They just take easy push and pull. I have a towel hook within easy reach so if at any time I feel cold I can grab that towel to wrap around myself. Our tub has two huge drains so it drains very quickly. My bath mats have Velcro on the bottom and the floor. It keeps the rug secure so it doesn’t move when I step out. Also, it is easy to clean. I wash it down with the shower, spray cleaner on, use my o’cedar spin mop to swizzle everything clean and rinse with the shower. It is by far the best bathing solution we have ever had.

    You are so right! We have a walk in tub, was here when we moved in. We were just getting ready to do a bathroom remodel, putting in a low profile tub with a fold down seat and handheld shower option. Then I severed a tendon in my foot/ankle, post surgical, no weight bearing for 4-6 weeks. The step into the walk in tub is very high! The seat is to the left and my grab bars are too far away, so I am currently doing sponge baths since surgery. I cannot use crutches due to recent shoulder & arm repair, so keep looking at my tub from my knee scooter & trying to figure the angle to get in without stepping on my foot! I'm not a bath taker, just want a shower! With a regular tub, I could use a transfer seat, but not with this one. This tub has to go!

    Can you mount it on the other side? Most put it on the right side if your sitting and shows left looking at the toilet, but I would like to know if it would still be a comfortable reach bringing the hose to the right side further away from the behind the tank left side coming out from the wall. I know most people are right handed and it is closest to the pipe coming out from the wall. Either side you can swap hands once you take it off the toilet clip, or do it before you sit down if your right handed and want it hanging from the right side, again looking at the toilet now from sitting down position. I would imagine I would lose about 14 inches of hose. How long is the hose? I wouldn't want to put any pressure on the hose making it too tight ever. I imagine it has to go on the left like you have it. I might have to move my shelving stand to do it like most have it. I've been using a shower pic that reaches beside the toilet from the bathtub. Works great, so now time to invest in a real one.

    • @toilettalkme
      @toilettalkme 2 місяці тому

      You certainly can mount the handheld bidet on the other side! The hose is pretty dang long, like 3'. It couldn't hurt to mount it on the other side and see if the length will serve your unique needs!

    Why not heat the bathroom up with small heater. Simple solution for grandma getting cold.. you can add hand rails to most bath tubs by anchoring into stud walls around the tub. They make kits now to cut existing tubs and put in doorways to keep the cost down. Do your homework before buying a walk in shower tub.

    • @toilettalkme
      @toilettalkme 2 місяці тому

      Yes, I totally agree with you to always do the homework! Tub cuts cost a couple of several hundred dollars compared to 10-15K for a walk in tub. Grab bars are perfect to help with fall prevention! I recommend one at the tub shower entry (where ever you get in) to keep you steady when getting in and out. I'm not a fan of heaters because they're often placed on the floor and the cord is a trip hazard. Keeping towels and robes on hooks within reach of the tub helps people dry off quickly. Caregivers can place a towel over someone's shoulders and lap to keep them warmer while assisting with washing hair and body. If anyone else has any ideas on walk in tub alternatives, please share them here!

    Rinseworks is the only one I'll use. Installed 2 of them. The extended handle doesn't add more "water pressure," it does one thing and only one thing: creates more distance to keep one's hand out of and away from the toilet and for better reach. I use the 5" extender to make mine the perfect length. Been using my Rinseworks sprayers since 2019.

      You can position the handheld bidet so it doesn't get spray back. If it does get dirty or wet, take a clean dry cloth to wipe it down.

    I’m heavy and when I sit on the toilet I can’t reach anywhere due to my stomach. I also can not put the toilet wand between my legs until I’m standing. I bend as I’m standing to wipe. I also have diarrhea at times and can not figure out how it will be possible to wipe when I can’t bend or twist. I need so much help and this is more distressing to me than the hip replacement I’m having next week.

    My question is. Does water splash outside when using it? Do we have to dry the floor or anything if water splashes out of the seat. ?

    • @toilettalkme
      @toilettalkme 4 місяці тому

      For adults, the bidet doesn't usually splash water outside of the toilet. For young children, it's possible that the water angle may splash the toilet lid and area surrounding the toilet. The water can easily be dried with a towel. Let me know if you have any other questions!

    I love the cherry “shower, don’t sponge bathe, you’ll feel better”. If only it were only that simple. Even with a good grab bar getting into the shower is still a struggle for me. I like to do sponge baths between showers. Overall, lots of good tips.

    • @toilettalkme
      @toilettalkme 4 місяці тому

      I'm glad these tips were helpful! I completely agree that some people need more changes than a grab bar. That's when I recommend having your primary care physician write a referral for occupational therapy so they can provide the best recommendations for your situation. If you have any tips you'd like to share about sponge bathing, please feel free to leave them here! Thank you for watching!

    They have lower profile tubs now that are walk in as well. Along with duel gravity drains so they drain very quickly. Most have handicap accessibility if they are meditubs or the like. I would agree with what is said here mostly except the fact no everyone likes showers. My uncle hates them and after his last fall. He won't use one again. I get the arguments for caregivers but showers arn't always a option here.

    • @toilettalkme
      @toilettalkme 4 місяці тому

      Totally agree! For people who absolutely love baths, there are bath tub lifts that lower people into an already existing bathtub. These types of lifts generally cost $2-3,000. It's cheaper than a walk-in tub, but still an investment!

    Thank you for this informative video! If using these adjacent to a toilet for someone who uses a walker, what length grab bar would be best? (I see they come in 24, 28 and 32 inch lengths).

    • @toilettalkme
      @toilettalkme 4 місяці тому

      I'd recommend getting a referral for an occupational therapist to help determine the best length of grab bar for that person. In general, I'd probably use a longer length for a taller person with longer arms and a shorter length for a more petite person. Let me know if you have more questions!

    • @toilettalkme

      It is a folding and rotating grab bar. The grab bar helps people safely and independently get on and off the toilet and pull their pants up and down. Here's the link: toilettalk.me/shop/maxima-series-folding-rotating-grab-bar
