The Structures Guy
United States
Приєднався 16 кві 2019
This channel is intended to discuss the structures of everything and anything. We will dig beneath the architectural surfaces of things and analyze the structural skeleton supporting them. My goal is help people visualize and see everyday things around them from a deeper structural perspective. In essence, we will discuss why structures hold up and what make them not fall down. This channel is aimed to discuss various structures all around the world in the past, present, and future. Also, we will analyze the failure of real-life structures and what we have learned from them.

The 2X Cable Stayed Bridge: The Octávio Frias de Oliveira Bridge
Переглядів 3247 місяців тому
The Octávio Frias de Oliveira Bridge Bridge is a cable-stayed structure supported by a single tower. The bridge's tower design was mathematically inspired by the Fibonacci sequence and Da Vinci's Vitruvian Man, with both sharing a vertical aspect ratio of 0.61. The bridge spans a total length of 1.6 kilometers (1 mile) across four spans, making it the longest cable-stayed bridge in Brazil and t...

Wow
None of the oceanfront condo complexes in Miami are ANYWHERE NEAR AS OLD AS NUMEROUS BUILDINGS AND OTHER INFRASTRUCTURE THROUGHOUT EUROPE!!!! 🫤🫤🫤🫤🫤🫤🫤🫤😐😐😐 It REALLY FRUSTRATES ME and it gets on MY LAST NERVE when Americans call infrastructure that is only a few decades old (around 30-40 years old) “old” and “aging infrastructure”, because, the truth is that THERE ARE A LOT OF BUILDINGS FOUND THROUGHOUT EUROPE IN ALL EUROPEAN UNION AND NON-EUROPEAN UNION NATIONS THAT WERE CONSTRUCTED AND COMPLETED CENTURIES AGO- CENTURIES!!!!!!- AS FAR BACK AS MEDIEVAL 🏰 TIMES AND THE MIDDLE (DARK) AGES! (THE 1100S-1400S AND FAR EARLIER!!)!!!!!! 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😠😠😠😠😠😤😤😤😤😤😤😤 I am SO TIRED of Americans calling infrastructure that is only between 20-50 years old “aging” and “old”, BECAUSE THERE ARE PLENTY OF REAL, TRUE AGING INFRASTRUCTURE FOUND IN MANY PLACES THROUGHOUT THE EUROPEAN UNION 🇪🇺 IN MANY COUNTRIES AND CITIES IN EUROPE- INCLUDING MANY OF THE MOST WELL-KNOWN GLOBAL CITIES IN EUROPE (YES, INCLUDING PARIS!)!!!!!! 😑😑😑😑😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😭🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🫤🫤🫤🫤🫤🫤🫤🫤🫤🫤🫤🫤🫤🫤🫤🫤🫤🫤🫤🫤🫤🫤🫤🫤🫤🫤🫤🫤🫤🫤🫤🫤🫤🫤🫤🫤🫤🫤🫤🫤🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦🤦🤦🤦 Champlain Tower South in Miami did NOT collapse due to its age alone. Because the infrastructure found in many places throughout Europe that were constructed centuries back- including before the 1000s- closer to the Time of Christ!- have NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, collapsed, as, tragically, Champlain Tower South in Surfside, Miami Beach, Florida, did one tragic night back in 2021. All that REAL/TRUE aging infrastructure that is found in countless places in Europe and in many cities and towns in Europe are UNDENIABLE, INDISPUTABLE EVIDENCE that the age of a piece of infrastructure such as a concrete structure building is NOT a cause of structural damage and/or collapse, in and of itself. In Champlain Tower South’s case, there were many other causes and factors at play that contributed to and caused the deadly structural damage that tragically culminated in the deadly/fatal/lethal collapse that night in June 2021.
What a nonsense! Waste of resources and money. And encouraging people to be cruel to animals? Seriously? And all while claiming to be sustainable...
Excellent video. Thanks.
“This bridge attempts to minimise its environmental impact” (1.23). By using much more concrete and steel than a standard bridge?
There is more to environmental impact than just concrete. The bridge does in fact minimize environmental impacts. Please read the references in the description.
"its hardly straight forward, it is a circle"
This building is not 'inverted'. It was brilliantly designed to provide the required setback from the nearby bridges, then continue to grow up and upward.
Why did you make it in a circle - because we could! 🤣
Maybe they should have also added a few switchbacks to slow the traffic even more. Bad ideas are what you get when artistic expression is prioritized over function.
Thoughtful and informative. Thanks!
What a beautiful bridge
Well explained.
Fantastic!!!
This is why Uruguay is considered a 3rd world country. This is a huge waste of public money.. Unless it was privately financed, i see no point on this!
Very good video!
Question: What if an earthquake occurs. What happens to the bridge?

11million USD.? In the USD it would be at least a BILLION because of corruptions.
A work of art ❤
And now the ferryman is out of work.
AMAZING. This would never be done in the US.
I was deeply moved to learn about the shape and purpose of the bridge. It made me realize once again that the design, which allows nature and people to coexist, is a testament to human imagination.

Ha! You have problems pronouncing the aqueduct's name... Well I'm afraid that I'm having problems too. I don't have enough time for my brain both to process what you're saying and at the same time take in what my eyes are seeing. Please don't think that I'm being rude, I am a linguist and am quite adept at quickly tuning in to the - to me - unusual cadences and rhythms of tongues from around the world. I'd just like to ask if you could slow down just a beat or two and do your best to enunciate in a more considered manner. Many thanks. Great video otherwise.
Amazing
Very clear explanation of the structure and performance. Thank you
Incredible! So very interesting! Thank you for sharing with us! Ciao!

Bad English hard to understand
A totally ugly building🤮
thanks for this amazing video
Amazing and genius, the world keeps on giving.
👏 the amount of research it took to make this video is impressive!
Why didn't they route the bridge to the existing island?
Kastrup Airport is nearby.
Does the bridge earthquake resistant?
The suspender cables did not have enough redundancy, that is if one deck segment without support can weigh down the adjacent segments to cable failure. Deck integrity is crucial to tied-arch bridges. Also, arches are weaker without a load pulling/pushing them down, which is why the weight of the deck on the suspension cables is important.
I hope you've worked on your English since this video there were a few spots that were rough to make out and your captions didn't help
Yo vine de Facebook aver este video 😂
Itu kalo hujan banjir apa ga meluap😲
Look at the bridge. Great PR.
