Jackson Smith - USMC 2008-15
After growing up in Washington DC, Jackson moved to New Orleans in 2003 and has called the city his home ever since. A graduate of Tulane University, Jackson was commissioned into the U.S. Marine Corps in 2008. He served on active duty for the next eight years as an infantry officer, completing two deployments to Afghanistan in 2010 and 2011 followed by additional deployments around the world. In 2011 he was recognized as the Second Marine Division’s Platoon Commander of the Year.
In 2015, fed up with missing every Mardi Gras and Saints season, Jackson returned home to New Orleans to attend Tulane Law School on the GI Bill. Although Jackson’s reintegration to civilian life seemed to be going well, he was missing a sense or purpose. He eventually found a new mission as the Executive Director of Bastion, a non-profit based in New Orleans whose mission is to provide a supportive living environment for injured veterans and families within our intentionally designed neighborhood by augmenting their care with neighbors, volunteers and clinical specialists for a holistic approach to community integration.

Love the story
Is that a drum mag on a Bar rifle?
This is the mindset we have to pass on to our children.
Outstanding man
Wonderful comentary, brave men ! ❤x
Great story!
I am so sorry for your loss. Thank you, for sharing your story. I love your sense of humour, as it made me laugh! I pray you are doing well ❤❤❤
God Bless our warriors!
I met Mike at the 10 Foot Stop (rem Velda?) in Panama City while going through NAVY Dive School. Once graduating I was stationed at MDSU-2 while Mike was there leading the Dive School. This man is driven for success and I can remember him going out in front of the students in the lagoon, in his UDT’s, breaking the ice before him so the students could swim their laps in the Little Creek lagoon where MDSU-2 was stationed hollering to get in the water. He said a lot but kept repeating its mind over matter. Quite impressionable. Next time, have Mike talk about the vessel recovery job he was involved in in the Gulf and why he locked himself in the med locker.
HOOYAH MY BROTHER. ❤
cant imagine the fear going into those tunnels,i flew rescue missions in helos for US Coast Guard,we had traing for that and unexpected stuff happens, but not booby traps, cross fire,i worked with a guy was tunnel rat,he said was on edge 100%
You Sir, are a stellar human being and an example of humility. I don't sense bitterness, but acceptance.
Thank you for your service Joan. What a story.
Tunnel rats are incredible men, most people would never go into those tunnels.
HOOO-YYAAHHH!!!
Very informative. Tom was a real deal guy. Balls like a bowling ally. Thank you for your service and the lives you saved.
Please wear the uniform and decorations correctly,no offense but you look like a clown when you disrespect it in such a way. You have earned the right to wear the uniform but no one has the right to disrespect it!
Thank you for your service M" Jim La Pointe.
thank you for your service and wise words to the younger generation God Bless
It's one thing to talk the talk, another to walk the walk. Chris Noel did much more than talk. She delivered with all of her heart, and continues to do it. It would be difficult to put a value on her lies work. Only thing I can say is thank you!
Stolen valor

God Bless you Man! You and other Nam Vets are True Heroes
I live in a military town, what I find fascinating is every vet, never being a war zone gets disable vet status. I bit too gratuitous. Combat vets, yes, in the rear with gear, come on? Every able body American should serve 2 years minimum. Let's rid our society of the whiny p-ssy status.
Lt Moore thank you for your service
Quartermaster School. Hahahahaha
Biden was a tunnel rat. Still is.
WOW is all I can say
Mike, appreciate your service.
I served in the late 70s and respect all that went to Vietnam including my older brother... don't blame you guys at all.. the politicians and generals should have learned from the French

Either you beat some of the longest odds to survive, or there was another force that had a bigger plan for you. Thank you for your lifetime of service. We appreciate you.
Thanks for your service! I was there in 67. Every one please remember the ones men and women that didn’t make it back home! ! Thanks
America was giving bonuses to do extra tours. My friend did 3 and purchased nice cars with the money. One tour was enough for me.
As a Marine 0311 I have Big Time respect for a man that was a tunnel rat and rotated 4 times to the front line. I visualize you going into a tunnel dark, bobby trapped 🫡 mad respect soldier 🪖
I've heard when he carried the M60 he would have a combat load out of 1000 linked 7.62 rounds. If you have ever held a 200 round belt of 7.62 then you know how heavy it is. No imagine 4 more belts added to that. And that was his minimum combat load. Not counting the frags willypete and other gear he carried. This man is a true hero. We need more MEN like this nowadays.
No American in Vietnam was there for your freedom. They were there, in a country that never harmed the USA, killing civilians and burning villages leading to millions of dead vietnamese, thousands of dead young americans and a traumatised generation of young american men. Be a little more critical about the past, please. Vietnam was a crime.
