Hiding Cables Made Easy if you know the tricks
Hiding cables are an easy if you follow a couple rules of thumb, follow building lines. match colour as best as possible and use existing channels. Basic type of job, all cable runs are on one side. The customer wanted a different location in the living room so I ended up running 2 lines back to the cable box and the 3rd I followed the roof line all the way to the back of the house. It turned out nice. Believe it or not it was quicker to run up high along the roof line in the siding "J" channel then it would drilling in clips all along the siding. I may have used an extra 20ft of cable but I saved 1/4 hr by hiding it.

Part 3 recabling job, simple service call turns into 2 1/2 hrs of reinstalling the cables and ground

One line ran along the back of the home and was entered thru a stucco wall, and the other cable ran up to the peak of the gable and then around to the front into the cable box. The new ground point was the a strap clamped around the electrical mast

At the beginning of this service call, it was originally to fix some cables that had fallen out of the roof flashing. That is was the notes on the service call lead me to believe. However once I had a look on the roof and close inspection of the dish, it turned into a 2 1/2 hr re-cabling job.

The dish was placed on the front peak of the roof because of the tree to the south east and the location of the cable box.
Running cables on a Stucco house.... following house lines
Переглядів 32 тис.12 років тому
At this install of the day, it first looked like it wasn't possible when I first drove by. Trees to the east and some on the south. That was the driver's seat survey at 30kms. Once I pull in and started to walk around I found an opening in the trees and mounted the dish on the fascia board. From there is seemed like a challenging cable run on stucco to the living room. Now, on stucco homes you ...
The Log home project... how to get inside....

At this install, the site was previously site checked by another installer and the location that was explained to the customer was on the other side of the house. Unfortunately for me, the desired tv locations were on the inside rooms of the log house. Drill thru 18 inch thick logs really wasn't an option. As I explored possible locations I discovered a location and cable route on the opposite ...

At this install, the original dish was a Shaw Direct and it appeared to work for nimiq 91/82 but a quick test with my 18 inch single focus dish and my Satbuddy proved differently. Why? Long term the tree to the east would become a problem for nimiq 82 and would have required a moved next year.

High mounted dish, run around the fireplace

This install involved mounting the dish high of the sfascia board (customer didn't want to see it on the rear deck). Using my 28 ft ladder I had no problem getting about the 2nd floor height. Being up so high also allowed me to go around the chimney and hide the cables better. The connection for the rooms where made inside the cable box, as well as the ground.

      i guess drop a string/rope off the roof and tie it to the wire, once u catch the string in the wind, maybe add a small weight.... but once tied to wire, just pull string up with wire tied to it...., may need someone to help feed wire through the wall as u pull up....

    Who wants a hole in their siding? It actually makes it weaker and can cause a crack if hit with a ball. Look at how much more bigger the hole is then the wire and how much silicone he needed to use to cover it up @ 1:00. It looks sloppy. Guys don't take shortcuts. Please do it right the first time and make a lasting impression on your clients.

      That is a statement that sounds good until you realize that the ISP/cable provider is not inside your house and in order to connect your home to it, there MUST be a wire outside your house that goes inside. I do agree that this install looks a little slack, but you ALWAYS have "wire on the out side (sic) of a house" if you want internet and/or tv service.

    wow i have never seen that plate behind the dish before but that would instantly fail a qc idk how you guys stay in business doing stuff like that haha i mean it probably wont have any issues as long as all the connectors are made correctly and torqued but when us dish techs have to come out behind retailers we get our ass handed to us reinstalling the whole thing

  • @psyfertech
    @psyfertech 9 років тому

    i work for dish and thats not up to spec lol typical retailer install shouldnt have white cable running from the dish to ground block, cable should be secured with plastic screw clips not metal, it does look like there was a facia bracket on that dish which is good because most retailers here in florida will just bolt the short mast right to anything lol and in your drop box the ground block must be secured or atleast zip tied to somethin but idk i guess retailers dont get qc'd like we do otherwise id be bangin out 10 jobs a day haha

    • @mikel9567
      @mikel9567 6 років тому

      White coax not up to spec? Are you out of your mind? You know that the color of the coax doesn't indicate the type of coax. There are plenty of manufacturers that make white coax specifically for exterior use. If you work for Dish, you have black coax because it is cheaper than the white, and quite frankly black looks more appealing than white on more colors. But if he is independent he can use any color coax he wishes as long as it meets certifications (UL listing, etc).

    Hey Mike Somebody gave me some old dishes they took off their house they bought and I got a SW44 and two smaller units all in one package, can you tell me what is the power supply ( I obviously didn't get?) and could you give me a rough draft as to how they ought to be wired up. I'm trying a 2 dish scenario I want one dish on one SAT and another dish on the other SAT. do I use these other two little switch boxes with it as well and what about 2 LNB's on each dish? just trying to get the best possible reception. but your probably going to tell me MORE is not always a good thing right? just a bit of a pain getting dish to line up on two SATs..

    I'm sorry, this is the type of installation I absolutely DESPISE! Most of the technicians will install and walk away thinking they've done a nice installation because it's firm and in place while they're there... But let's be honest, how long does a screw remain firm in sheetrock?? We all know the answer to that... C'mon techs!! Be "professional"! use an outlet bracket or at the very least use some form of anchor inside the sheetrock that locks the screws in place. Nothing is more disheartening than finding just a hole behind a plated outlet.

    • @chrispatriot
      @chrispatriot 9 років тому

      Eric Johnson As is typical with those who only want to "do enough" rather than "do it right"... It's not what you can get away with, or make the client accept, its about doing something right.

    • @chrispatriot
      @chrispatriot 9 років тому

      Eric Johnson Half ass is half ass, regardless of price or "excuse" about efficiency If I'm popping in a plate and plate frame $1.60 more, and that makes me overcharge a rate, that within itself is pathetic. If you're telling me you quoted a job so tight that an extra $1.60 hurts you, then obviously you need help in preparing quotes for service.... There's a thousand excuses for subpar work, and MANY humans think using it somehow justifies the act, when in essence, its just a reflection of who you are... You want to do subpar work? Your entitled to do so.. But, those who judge your work are equally entitled to rate it accordingly...

      At first I disagreed with you but now I think you may be right. One thing though, the outlet bracket (at least the ones I've used) require you to cut a large square/rectanglular hole in the drywall. Then the bracket goes in and you tighten the screws which hold the arms secure against the wall. Is that the one you're talking about? I agree that would be better and would hold "forever". Maybe the home owner doesn't want large holes cut in the wall though? The drywall does have benefits like noise/thermal, etc, so cutting a large hole and "sealing" it with a plate would increase those things. Probably not to a noticeable degree though. Another thing I guess would be if you were to ever move the cable or get rid of it, the small hole would be much easier to patch. And also he's the cable TV guy, not the "your home wiring guy". If you want your home to be all wired up a certain way that seems like a whole job in and of itself. He is just there to get you TV. So yeah I guess I see both sides. Definitely need to stand behind your work and not be lazy. Cutting that hole wouldn't take long though I wouldn't think it's this guy being lazy, rather just doing what he's been told to do. Anyway...

    • @chrispatriot
      @chrispatriot 4 роки тому

      @@user-nh3gu1ge3d It's close. The ones I use are square brackets that once in place there is a top and bottom metal clamp that you squeeze with angled channels locks. It takes less than 15 seconds to secure, and they last a long time.... As for the hole, that's not a large hole. And once you have to remove something and patch, a patch is a patch is a patch, so large or small, you have a little project to do. As for the insulation factor, I actually back mine with a piece of insulation so that's never been a problem for me. Some people think that a person will plug their network cable into the wall, and then forget it. That's true if it is behind furniture, ie desk, TV stand, etc. But if it's out in the open it gets tugged on all the time and every time I observe these more cheaply placed outlets that have been in place over a year, the entire thing is loose, taped against the wall by the owner, etc... When I ask them who did their wiring, it's always the same thing... Some guy who was cheap as hell, or not very good, or didn't know what he was doing, etc.... So those people who do these projects, you get to leave and over 95% of your clients will never say anything to you, they'll just never use you again! In today's world especially, when it costs a premium to actually obtain clients, the last thing you want to do is actually lose them! It only takes an extra minute and costs around $.35 cents a piece to make these installs a much more professional install...
