I don't know how else 2 put this but this video really inspired and motivated me a lot!!! seeing another female bassist makes me feel really validated, as I almost always see men playing them. having gotten my bass only 20 days ago, this makes me feel so inspired to keep going and progressing this skill!!! thank you so much!!! ❤❤❤❤

Ok that "wakeup rehersal" is a STRONG idea. Like yeah, "keep doing it and it will become automatic" is true of most things, but it's QUITE HARD to get started on a habit that you're supposed to do while half-conscious!

Awesome information and array of opinions and strategies. I just got a bass guitar and staring at it as I am intimidated. I just opened a book "The complete idiot's guide" playing bass guitar and wow!!!!!!! So the journey begins and I have no clues of how to play but this is what I want to do and I have a fire inside to complete a dream of mine and would like any support and strategies for success.

Hey idk if you’re reading this, but I can hope you see that-at least for me- you don’t need to explain not posting to us. It seems therapeutical for you which is definitely reassuring! It’s easy for things to get fatiguing and not clear. A lot of that list you mentioned could describe me very well too. Someone close to me has struggled with ADHD as long as I know and it was incredibly difficult at the start, you know, I love them for everything and what they can bring to me. I know a little too much of competitive education and pushing yourself as much as you can. However, even now, learning anything is one of my favorite things. I’m just happy you’re giving yourself time to figure out some things. Keep rocking on, thank you for inspiring me! 😊

Some criticisms and tips for bass learners 1 - You should strive to develop your "learning by ear" skills, even if you find tabs easier, because there may not always be tabs, and those tabs may be wrong. 3 - Play songs you love, have fun, but I wouldn't completely ignore the technical and boring side of playing bass - It's important to find a balance. I can see she has some technical issues herself unfortunately. 4 - Usually it's recommended to start learning with fingers because it is more versatile. Also, don't limit yourself to only one - get good at both. 7 - This is a really good tip, it's a great idea 8 - I don't think you should simplify songs, but instead slow the complicated bits down a lot, and work on them slowly and patiently. It might be more boring and frustrating than just simplifying songs, but results require hard work Things you might be doing wrong section: - Hold down the strings as lightly as physically possible to produce a clean sound. There is no need to push down hard on the strings, and it doesn't take that much to produce a nice sound. Experiment with this but slowly pressing down the string (with your finger close to the fret bar like she shows) and stop when it sounds clean. You might be surprised at how little force it takes. - About the fingertips: It can be acceptable to use your finger pads - For example, when using your index finger to mute the strings that are higher than the one you are playing by laying your finger across the strings. Or with your pinky for example if it naturally tries to lay flat when stretching out. Also I forgot where she said it, but the advice to buy an amp is correct and very important. This is because if you play without one, it will create a bad habit where you pluck the strings much harder than you need to just to be able to hear yourself. And finally, hands in most cases are not too small for stretching to play 4 frets. Your hand/fingers just need time and practice to stretch out.

Davie504 would send the Bass police to get you, playing bass with a pick is a criminal offence 😂 (although I secretly do it too in some occasions) My tip, play fingerstyle, slap and with a pick, just use what fits the song best, get familiar with all techniques and try playing all existing musical styles and use a metronome when practicing.
