Master Luthier Explains: Winter Guitar Care in the Southwest
Had to do this with an AliExpress guitar that was damaged during shipping
Bro I need one so bad… I’ve tried to order from Tuva itself but the sanctions are still active
Salvo seus videos pois são úteis sempre
Great video. Are the speaker connections not soldered on? They seem to be on my 65 PRRI
Probably not the best for doing a video, but when I do a speaker swap like this I lay the amp face down. Then you are not struggling with trying to hold the speaker while lining up screws. Gravity holds it for you.
Awesome! Fret and neck issue is complicated when client can’t afford to level the fret. The glue under fret can be broken when you hammer it.
Thanka for this video. Quick question - how many layers of copper tape did you use? Do you dress it all (covering pickup hole completely bottom and around? and then doing it a second round of covering it all? Thanks
I have a lot of tension in my upper back. What do you charge for an hour of shiatsu?
Best info I've seen on adjusting the spring tension, thank you!
The voiceover in Part 2 was much better than the live commentary in Part 1 because there were far fewer hesitations, pauses, and "ums" and "errs". It made the video more professional because it was easier and more pleasant to listen to, and you were able to add some more information that would probably not have been included if the commentary was live. Thank you for sharing.
Don't know if you still review this post, but would using a syringe type set up help to apply the glue deeper into the crack?
You remind me of Randy Bachman the guitarist from BTO 😊
Thanks so much for sharing! I have the exact same repair to do, and this was super helpful
Right on. It has taken me decades to figure out how to setup my own guitars properly. Whenever I feel out of my depth, I take it to a pro. It's always worth the money.
What a beauty! Justyn plays it well.
Why no intonation? Is it not needed from 9s to 10s?
Awesome video thanks for posting
How much of a risk is adjusting the truss rod following this kind of repair? (If at all)
I have the exact same Princeton with the Celestion Ten 30. I’m thinking of swapping it out for something different. Your tutorial is going to save me from any potential headaches. Thank you!
Should have just used a syringe...
Sadly, he's correct. Doing a set-up can require a bit more than a B.A. degree in UA-cam. The world now has social media so nowpeople can voice their uneducated opinions and "wisdom." In their minds, they know how to turn a bolt. The problem is they go to turn the bolt, but maybe it's a seized bolt or something different from the video they watched. Then all of a sudden their guitar plays like poo. I have a couple thousand guitar repairs under my belt and I still see situations that require a little thinking. I encourage folks to try, but I don't believe they will do a better set up than a seasoned repairman. The key word is seasoned.
Thank you Gab! When you get lost regarding a setup it is always good to see how a pro does things.
I really thank you for sharing your expertise. With all do respect perhaps you can change your camera angle to maximize viewing.
I wouldn't have been satisfied with that repair. It wouldn't have taken much more effort or money to make that crack disappear with some CA glue and a dab of red dye. Pretty dissatisfactory repair and I wouldn't have put my name on that job.
The zombies trying to get into his home though
I have a question for you. I just purchased a Donner DST-152. It's basically a strat knock off. The low E string would not intonate. I had to tighten the saddle adjustment so much that, I had to remove the saddle spring on the low E saddle to get that little more room to intonate at the open & 12th fret. Would you recommend a spring tree or tightening the tension on the vibrato/tremelow?
Great video. I'm coming to the end of my first strat build, and this was very useful. Thanks, Gabriel!
I've never seen clamps like those. What are they called and where are they sold? Do you have felt or leather on the insides of them to prevent marring finish?
Any guitar that will hold a tune is a good guitar
My friend dropped my guitar and this exact crack has happened today literally looks the exact same but I'm not sure what to do about it. Shall I buy some wood glue and do it myself or send it off to a repair shop and if so, how much are we looking at?
$130-$230 for my shop. If you follow the steps in the video and clamp it properly you should be good. Make sure you use more glue than you think you need. Squeeze out is very manageable and worth it. This is all assuming you have a very similar break
@@Lumberjack1n hi yes I have the exact same break quite literally exact. I have a new problem though. I took it to a well known guitar shop to get fixed and they said it would be 140 so I said that's great and dropped it off. It's now been at least a month and I've contacted the shop and they havnt got in touch with us at all now I'm freaking out. Have I been scammed and do you have any advice on what I should do because I'm worried and lost.
@@OutOfControl101hey man did you ever get your guitar back?
@@backseatpalace hey yes I did thanks! The crack is all fixed up, no scars from the crack at all but the paint job 😭yeah I mean I can play him now, all fixed up but really not happy with the finish. It's not smooth to play and ugly as hell but it's fine, thanks for asking mate!
Very nice. We just swapped out the stock Jensen for a VT Jr. And are getting more chime which we need for surf.
! Save the tubes before. You know what could happen, will be happen
My Washburn acoustic guitar has the same damage
I actually thought the voice over was better than normal
Great! Really cool to watch you do an amazing job!
💉🤔
It was a pleasure to watch you
Thanks for your video!
A friend gave me a 5-string bass that has a crack from the 5th string tuning peg hole, 'out' to the bottom of the headstock. The crack goes with the grain and I believe that if I can wedge it open just slightly then it shouldn't be an issue getting glue in there. I'm more worried about clamping it properly so that I don't create one of those "lips" you were talking about it and that brings me to the glue. I've been viewing vids about this sort of a "fix" on a headstock and I've seen a lot of them suggest C.A. glue with a thin-tip applicator but I really don't like the idea of working on something so unforgiving whilst using a glue that is so unforgiving. This is why I like your vid; I didn't even think of just watering down wood glue and pushing it in there with another object. Two thumbs up man!! Side-note: Best part about my headstock fix is that I don't have to remove the nut lol
Excellent video,, helped a lot,,thank you❤
An injection syringe with a fairly thin needle could help putting in that glue.
He did nor say anything about drilling the string tree hole depth or lubricating the threads of the screw or where to place the screw hole(s)...Most fellows are NOT luthiers.
However long the screw is, you minus the height of the tree and then you have the depth of the hole... You don't have to be a scientist to work that out.... You obviously place them in line with the strings, and there is no need whatsoever to oil tiny screws.... You just want something to moan about...
I always remove the tubes before I change the speaker in a combo.
Thabks for filming this, made me realise that the crack i got in my les paul can and should be fixed instead of looking to replace the whole neck
Put a Celestion in mine but it's still a little ice picky.
super helpful thanks :)
Mr. Gabe, I own several Guild acoustics. I have a 73, D-25 (flat back) that probably needs a reset. A luthier shaved down the bridge & it sounds & plays nice. Then the bridge cracked. Brought it back to him & he meticulously fit in a piece of rosewood & re-drilled holes for the string holes. The bridge cracked again & the low E bridge pin pulls out higher than the rest of the pins. I regret ever buying this guitar as it has turned into a real money pit. Cost $500 & have $200 more in repairs into it. It looks like you look know what you’re doing repair wise. So figuring a new bridge & neck reset what do you estimate that might cost & is it even worth repairing it?
Can you shed any light on how to change the speaker on a Fender Princeton 65 solid state amp with a 12" speaker? There isn't a removable 4 screw panel on the back bottom. Thanks
Good video! I learned something :) Thanks!
