(86) My approach to learning how to pick difficult locks
hi, i got the american 1100 open by picking that i think were 2 spools then zipping the rest with a medium hook.... but still cant SSP all the pins to get it open any tips?
Once you get a false set, find the pins that give counter rotation then lighten up the tension and apply tension until the spool pins set. Then focus the next pin that gives more counter rotation. Check out my video 21 for more info.
@@LockpickingEngineer ok thank you
Silly masterlock security numbers, lol.
very nice! :)
Remember a master lock can be opened with another master lock
Is there a belt under white for that lock lol
Haha should be
That was one of the first locks I bought to pick after 2 days of practice, opened it in under 30 seconds. Was pretty disappointed. As a new picker I'm surprised at how bad locks are.
Yeah, that was one of the most surprising thing I learned, was how non-secure most locks are.
Hahah nice
Ever pick an American 5400? It's another one I'm having issues with and can't seem to find any videos of anyone picking it.
I've never done a 5400 that I can think of, but have done a 5200. I'll keep a look out and add that to my list to put on film
@LockpickingEngineer I finally got it today, lots of serrated pins to figure out, once I got that it was easy. Highly recommend giving one a try though. Now time to try those stupid lock out tag out locks that have been giving me trouble.
Nice, congratulations!
Nicely done
Nice pick! I should make cards like that with the CLs I send out!
Yeah, I did that for my second lock. Pretty cool to see the history!
Good to see a Bearsback challenge lock being picked the same week Bearsback returns to locksport. Such an awesome challenge lock build. Fantastic pin work, stunning examples on drivers two and six
Easy money
Is the 576 just a sprung version of the 575?
I think it has to do with the pins, but not 100% sure
Great list!
I have 2 lock out tag out locks and I can't get the pins to stay in place, feels like the springs are super tough or something. They're harder to pick than my abus 72/40 though I've only been picking for about a month.
Are they master LOTO locks? If so, it's tricky to tension, because there isn't a spring resisting your tension.
@LockpickingEngineer yeah I believe so, they are plastic masterlocks. Don't know if there's variations of them though, but they are hard to pick. Haven't opened one yet but practice makes perfect.
@@Chalupa_Batman77Yeah, I think they only have 2 versions, but essentially the same... Good luck!
Is the Slim Pickings a good beginner lock pick set? A compact tool that keeps the pieces all together in a compact handle is very attractive. I'm looking for something that will open "most" door and cabinet locks. Thanks.
No, I'd say this really is more of an advanced set. It stick to either the genesis set from Covert Instruments or the starter set from Jimy longs
thanks, from one of my last comments i bought that exact sparrow lock with serrated pins, i can pick it, but im looking to find a lock that has some spools serrated pins to see how they go together, do any of these have that?
Yes, the American 1100 has them. Should have spools with serrations on them
@@LockpickingEngineer thank you
Glad to help!
Very nice
Outstanding content!
You picked a good set of beginner locks for sure! One I recommend for green is the ace laminated 5 pin. I found it to be much easier than most others.
I'll have to get one to play with!
@ It’s a fun one! Definitely give it a try.
Fun looking look you got there! Nice open!
I have the same lock and it requires 2 pins to be lifted. It a waste of money.
Yeah, it was a fun pick, but not secure at all
I know these Brinkses suck securitywise, but damn they're pretty
@@CroLlama and fun to pick!
I'm currently working on an abus 72/40 that's the same color. The abus is a real pain with the keyway being set up the way it is. Hopefully I can get it down for my green belt.
@ For sure! I have a video where I pick and gut it, if you need some tips. It was my 4th video, so don't judge me to harshly. The hardest part to me, was finding/setting the standard pin.
I thought this was a lockpicking lawyer video. Engineers are the worst.
Well hope you still enjoyed it... I'd say insurance executives are the worst
Some people have complained about the pins binding strange in the cut outs. Have you had any problems with that?
It is definitely a different feel but I think it's the closest to a real lock. Being able to see what's going on in the beginning was a huge help to me. Now when I'm learning new pins or features, I pull all but one or two pins out of the lock to get a feeling that way
this lock is 100% my guilty pleasure lock that when I get stuck on something else I just grab this and pick it for an easy win :)
Same here. This and a master Lock 146 are my confidence builders, LOL
Yeah it's a fun lock, wish I would have found it sooner
Nice Vice
Thanks, got it from harbor freight
Cranky is the man! He sent me a bunch of euros for free! Hell of a guy!
Nice looking pins! Dig your sticker as well! Love to have one!
Well done-congrats to you. Keep them coming!
Thank!!! Will do!
Nicely done mate. Have a great weekend buddy 👍🤜🤛😊
Thanks you too!!!
Awesome one handed! Not familiar with the 4150, I will be keeping my eye out now.
It's a fun pick! Which is surprising for master
Niiiiice
nice dude, any tips on how to get a better feeling on that you set?
on the pins that you set
I'd say it's really practice. There is a thing called the jiggle test that you do. Basically you are trying to feel if you pin is binding or if you can feel the key pin move then hit spring tension or if it's just jammed up. I'd say check out my beginner series and maybe get a cutaway lock. Those can help you see what your feeling. I would stay away from clear locks because they have their own feel
Right on man nice open! Those pins look awesome! 👏🏻
Awesome job picking! Glad you enjoyed it! Pin 6 was a pin in pin with an internal spring bonded inside, however before sending it out I forgot to re-add the inner portion of the pin that interacts with that internal spring, but it's all good, still a fully functional pin just different than originally intended. Congrats 🎉 once I get LJs package out I'll include some poker chips for ya!
Awesome, thank you so much! That lock has inspired me to make my next CL include some more advanced pins!
Hammer is quicker
Yeah, makes a mess though
