Frederick, MD to Mt. Airy, MD - 2/26/2021. Because I used my cell phone with a left side handlebar mount, the video has stabilization and wind noise issues in addition to poor overall quality. However, I achieved my goal of getting decent sound reproduction of the big Stage II 114 so viewers and subscribers can FINALLY hear what this beast sounds like on the road. Improvements to the combinatio...

The big day finally came and went this past Saturday afternoon, when I picked up my bike at HD of Charlotte in Matthews, NC after the installation of the Stage 2 High Torque camshaft, the Pro-Street tuner, the Smart Tune Pro (auto tune), the Vance & Hines 300 Eliminator slip on mufflers and a set of handlebar risers. Needless to say, the bike now runs and sounds like a BEAST!!!!! This video was...

This is your last chance to hear what it sounds like 100% stock. The NEXT video SHOULD be with mods already performed....the bike should b...

Darth Vader?
Can you quick detach those bags and sissy bar both?
How did you get your wheels so shiny?
Hey man, I'm up in the Frederick, come up sometime, good backroads out here.
Beautiful Fat Boy, I just picked up a new Fat boy and wanted bags and a windshield for it asap. I like your setup 👌
Great work, thanks.
Nice exhaust! A little too quiet !!
Hi Jim. The exhaust definitely is not quiet but there are louder exhaust systems available. To me, it sounds so throaty that I have not changed it since this video was shot over 3 years ago.
That's a sexy looking bike. The fat boy is my favorite looking and overall harley.
What brand exhaust is this?
Hi Kip...it's a Bassani Road Rage III 2-INTO-1 in chrome.
With just slip on mufflers, you don’t need a tuner. $450 for Vance & Hines twin slash slip ons, and they sound great. Way better than the factory mufflers in my opinion. I’d like to know how those bags have held up. Lots of mixed reviews on their website.
Awesome bike! Does the full exhaust system void factory warranty since it non-EPA compliant?
No because it is not an internal part. That's why aftermarket cams, tuners, big bore kits, etc. void Harley-Davidson warranties and exhaust slip-ons or full systems do not.
Thanks Marty! This is a brand new bike that we installed a 131 Stage IV big-bore kit into that I sold to a local customer. I sell Harleys for District Harley-Davidson in Gaithersburg. Spread the word!
Is this your new bike? Really liked the bike you’ve been showing this is next level
Hi Marty...no, I still have my 2018 115th Anniversary Fatboy, which I am in love with. This bike belongs to a customer here in Maryland I sold the bike to.
John....my name is larry z from iowa. I have also an 115 anniversay.I would like to get yur opinion . I believe their should have been a recall for the pump issue. What do you think??
Shark Road sound better I have on my 2022 fat boy with them on my mind
Great video
Great video John, bike looks great. The fatboy has always been my dream harley although the road king gas started to impress me lately
Thanks Dan. I actually traded a 2007 Screamin' Eagle Road King with the 110 on this Fatboy and there is NO comparison. The NEW Road King in Standard or Special trim is awesome though. Still, I don't think I would ever trade this bike for ANYTHING.
@@marylandmotorhead-johnonei6038 I can definitely understand that ha. I'm just cough between the two _ new or very newish. Seems like you get a bit more bang for your buck with the RK
@@danthechippie4439 Yes, depending on what's important to you. If better power to weight ratio, i.e. better acceleration, superior handling, shorter braking distances and better m.p.g. are NOT as important to you as storage capacity or passenger comfort, the Road King would be the better choice. Also, in my opinion, the Fatboy just flat out LOOKS better!
@@marylandmotorhead-johnonei6038 hi John, and merry Christmas to you and yours. Do you really think the fatboy handles better than the road king with them tyres? Also fatboy is single brake disk where the king has 2. The fatboy sure is the better looking bike
Merry Christmas Dan! 🎄 You're right that the RK is easier to throw into a corner; my thought process was using the Softail chassis in general vs. the Touring chassis. You may have a point about the brakes though with the RK having better brakes but it is heavier, which could negate that advantage. At the end of the day, these are cruisers, not racing bikes so it probably doesn't matter!
Congrats, John. You’ve officially become my favorite UA-camr.
Correction - As far as the need to replace the camshaft chest backing plate, that really only applies to either Stage lll or Stage IV big bore kit equipped bikes or any high horsepower aftermarket build. Btw, I forgot to mention that Harley also offers a 119 cubic inch big bore kit for the 107. That's in addition to the 114 kit for the 107, the 117 kit for the 114, the 122 kit for the 114, the 128 kit for the 107 and finally, the 131 kit for the 114 and 117. Also, the early 2019 Milwaukee Eight bikes will need the upgraded HD 2020 oil pump along with all 2017 and 2018 Milwaukee Eights but the 2019 bikes built later in the model year are factory equipped with the updated pump. In high horsepower builds, it may be advisable to step up to an aftermarket billet aluminum oil pump.
Hi John, just thought I'd check in with you to see if you had any updates videos on the fatboy. Love that bike. Safe riding
Hi Dan and thanks for your message. My bike runs and looks so great that I never made any additional changes to it since it was almost new. I am selling Harley-Davidson motorcycles for a living now and the hours required keep me from enjoying the bike as often as I'd like to...still only 4200 miles are on the bike. I did order a custom, blue stitched Corbin seat and will post a video when it comes in.
@@marylandmotorhead-johnonei6038 some day John I will have a bike exactly like yours. Iv made a promise to myself. Love to see your video
Hi Dan! Just posted two today.
We’re you bought the license plate and signal locator kit and who the Manufacture
Both were acquired at the dealership at time of purchase. The license plate frame was on display and the signal relocator kit was straight out of the accessories catalog.
I have a 107. I love it! but . . my speedo has moisture inside, can't see digital info in the hot sun. And oil coming from breather into throttle body, maybe its a tad full. (done 6,000kms) You might want to check yours.
Hey Richard, sorry for the delayed response! By now, we all know that your problem was the P.O.S. stock oil pump. The fix is the updated 2020 HD oil pump with the o-ring seal. Alternatively, you could have used a race spec aftermarket bullet oil pump. Which one did you get? You did fix it, right?
@@marylandmotorhead-johnonei6038 the bike shop that sold me the bike had overfilled the engine with oil. I drained about 0.5 ltr engine oil. Set the (very)hot oil level to half way up the dipstick. Also removed the throttle body breather and turned it around to exit through the air filter inlet and into a pill bottle stuffed with tissue paper. Yeah its cheap but I wanted to see what was going on. . Anyway no more problems. The engine now idles smoothly without surging and pulls away cleanly riding in traffic. Lovely! ps: why did I do this? When I removed the air filter to check it I noticed an oil smear in the throttle body. I opened the butterfly and the inlet manifold had 1 to 2 tablespoons of oil muck inside.
The bags look fantastic, how do you secure your helmet or do you just take it with you
Do you have any idea why they don't come with a heal shifter anymore and if you miss it
Kereeeeenn
Good video!
Hello Is your windshield oem Harley part? Do get head buffeting? Thank you
Yes it's the 19" screen for the Fatboy, specifically. No head buffeting! I am 5'-08".
Have you considered putting a heal shifter back on or are you happy with the way it's supplied
Awesome Motorcycle 👍
Only 'world famous' in Charlotte. The parochial ism of Americans cracks me up. 🤣 🤣
Andrew, there are NASCAR fans all over the world and Charlotte, NC is the headquarters. By the way, I am from the Washington, DC area in the state of Maryland. Where are you from?
Did you have to relocate the rear turn signals when you installed the saddlebags?
Yes
What brand is the windscreen?
Harley-Davidson..19" softail windscreen
Beautiful Bike!! Love the emblem!! The Pinstriping is really good too. Enjoy your ride and Happy Trails!!
Thanks!
Love Fatboy always 👍🏾
Aftermarket exhaust is absolutely a Must. Potato..potato...potato..........
What kind of bags are on the bike?
Thank you sir!!!!
Fabulous looking fatboy, I'd give my left arm for it
Hi Karthik, I added the engine guard to protect the bike in the unlikely event it goes down. Frankly, I didn't care about what it looks like, although I happen to like the way it looks. If the bike goes down, it would get all torn up so I'd rather just replace an inexpensive engine guard. Much cheaper and potentially far less heartbreaking!
Beautiful bike, I wish you all the luck in the world with it. I'm looking at purchasing a fatboy of my own. I love the bags, are they lockable
Hi Dan. Thanks for the compliments. Yes, the bags are lockable.
@@marylandmotorhead-johnonei6038 when I get my fatboy I'm gonna do a stage 2 like you did. Can you give me a figure on what it cost you and exactly what it was you had done? When you said the cames were for low tork, does that mean it preforms better at low reves or lower speeds. Sorry probably sounds like a dumb question
Hey I have the same bike. Did you happen to notice if you lost any power when you switched to the VH slip-ons without the catalytic converter?
No Steve, I noticed a huge increase in power and torque but if you watch my videos, you will see that I did many other performance mods at the same time. I didn't just put slip ons on the bike. I did a Stage II Torque camshaft, auto. tune and a computer flash. My bike runs and sounds GREAT.
@@marylandmotorhead-johnonei6038 Hi John, Thanks for getting back to me. Didn't know you did torque cam. I did that on my RGS and it pulls like a freight train on that, so I could imagine on the FB. I want this FB to be a power muscle bike and don't want to loose any power by not picking the right exhaust. Did you ever run just the slip ons as a stage one?
@@steveg56 Hi Steve. No, I ran the bike bone stock for a couple of months before throwing everything at it at the same time. I think part of why my FB runs so well is the inclusion of Harley's auto. tuner (Smart Tune Pro, I believe) with the oxygen sensors. If you didn't include it in your build, add it!
❤️ ,🇪🇦
Thanks!
Can you tel me what the bags are - appreciate they are HD just wondering on the name. They look pretty rigid and lock which is exactly what I am looking for. I traded in my 2016 Fat Bob and was about to pick up my new 2019 Fat Boy up when the Govt locked us all down in the UK because of COVID-19😭😭😭
Hi Gary, I believe they are just referred to as "Softail bags." They are in Harley's Accessory catalog so when your dealer opens back up, just take a look, unless you have a catalog in your home to keep you occupied during the quarantine. BTW, I am a salesman at a very large Harley dealer in Gaithersburg, Maryland, District Harley-Davidson, just outside of Washington, DC and we have several brand new Fatboys here for sale including the new blacked out 30th Anniversary model. We are still open here, despite many Americans opting to or being ordered to stay inside. I'll ship one over to you!
@@marylandmotorhead-johnonei6038 Hi John thanks for the reply. I don't have a catalog so will have to make do with searching on-line. How much are the bags and do they require some kind of fixing kit? I will have a sissy bar, rack and back rest fitted once they get back to work!
@@garyogden5873 Here's the link....yes, they come with all of the hardware necessary for installation. They are quick detach as well but look so good that I never take them off. Not sure why the 2 star rating; I LOVE mine! You will have to click on "Shop for your bike" and sort on your model year and Fatboy 114. mstore.harley-davidson.com/shop/motorcycle-saddlebags#!pageSize=45|category=10670|searchTermScope=-99
Awesome choice, even I have an Anniversary Edition Fatboy 2018, this Fatboy definitely is a show stopper 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thanks Rinku!
Nice looking bike! Do you have the 15” or 19” windshield on it? How does it work for you? I’m 5’11” and am thinking about getting the windshield. Considering the Memphis Shades Fat also but leaning toward HD for quality
Hi Fernando and thanks for the compliment. It is the 19" windscreen. I highly recommend this particular shield. It creates an absolutely still pocket of air for me but I am about 5'-08". The shorter screen is simply inadequate for high speed touring, no matter the rider's height. Hope this helps.
With captions on it says [music] when you rev it.
That's funny...never noticed. True though! BEAUTIFUL music.
How did the bags hold up? Just bought the 30th anniversary as my first Harley. Did you have to relocate the turn signals? TYVM for the video, your set up like I want, a light highway bomber.
The bags are still like brand new after over 2 years in both appearance and function. However, my bike has never been in the rain and miles are still under 2,800 so it is well preserved overall. I had my dealer install all of the accessories prior to delivery but I don't believe that the signals needed to be relocated. Last, you're welcome for the vids...hope you love your bike as much as I love mine. Set up with the touring accessories, it will be, as mine is, the perfect light highway bomber.
Hi John... Ive just ordered the same exhausts after watching your video.I hope V&H are giving you some commission $$$ 🙂 Ive got the same Anniversary bike too, and going to make it similar to your build. Do I need to do anything else once the exhausts are fitted? Didnt know if it also needs a remap? Also, does the screen make a big difference at 70 mph... I test rode a Fatboy 107 last week and loved it ( Not picked my bike up yet) but the wind blast was no problem at 60, but really strong at 70. Thanks again! Love your videos 🙂
Hi Chris....you will be very happy with these slip ons! Nice rumble that is just right with no highway drone. You will need a remap for optimal performance and no "popping" on deceleration. If you watch my entire May 13 Mother's Day video, I go into all of the details about the tuners (that's right, TWO H.D. tuners) that I chose because of the Stage 2 cam upgrade. You will just need the basic tuner, which the correct map can be uploaded from. Use all H.D. stuff to maintain your factory warranty. Also, the 19" windscreen for Softails that I have is the way to go. It ELIMINATED all windblast and head buffeting for me, even beyond 85 mph. Your results will depend on your height. I am about 5'-07" and the screen is almost as good as a fairing for me. I like it so much that I will probably never remove it. Good luck with your new Fatboy!
Thanks for making this video. You've made a superb job of modifying your Fat Boy... and inspired me to build one as similar as I can. I found a used one the same today and put a deposit on it without riding it... so hopefully its as nice to ride as you said! The only Harley Ive ever tried was a Fat Bob... which was fun to ride, but the Anniversary Fat Boy just looked so much better. Cant wait to get one! Such a helpful video. Thanks again for making it 🙂
Thanks Chris! I made my videos specifically to help people like you. If the bike you are buying is anything like mine, you will LOVE it. It is the PERFECT "convertible" motorcycle with great looks, functionality and with the stage 2 kit (high torque), awesome performance with no sacrifice in smoothness or reliability. Happy to help!
Hi John. I'll hopefully find out tomorrow if I can get it... but your video made it a much easier decision. I think your bike looks beautiful... brilliant choices of upgrades, and great advice too. Fingers crossed I can get the bike and make it the same as yours. Who'd have thought a cruiser like the Fat Boy would have made a great tourer too! Im buying it out of my retirement money with a view as single person bike to tour in Europe. Ive got a BMW GSA 1250 for when my wife want to go away too. The Bmw is a great tourer, but doesnt have the same kind of Harley soul... not such a good cruiser neither 🙂 Maybe the Fat Boy will be the perfect second bike. Thanks again for your time and excellent video!
Did you have to relocate the rear signal lights to add the bags
No
@@marylandmotorhead-johnonei6038 Your rear signals look even to your rear fender my 2019 are about 2 or 3 inches further in. So I think I would have to get the relocation kit
@@dwayneavery1628 I bought the bike brand new over 2 years ago and couldn't remember whether I needed a relocation kit or not. Before answering you, I compared before and after pics of the rear of my bike and the rear signals appeared to be in the exact same place. All you have to do is ask the fit specialist at your local HD dealer whether or not a relocation kit is necessary with these particular saddlebags. The description of these bags in the accessories catalog may even give you the answer.
