Silencing Squeaky Leaf Springs: A DIY Guide
Make the squeaking stop!
Many aftermarket (and many OEM) leaf packs begin to squeak after just a short period of time. We have a nearly guaranteed fix to eliminate those pesky (and embarrassing) squeaky leaf packs. We'll walk you through the entire process of everything you need as well as exactly how to complete this job. Today we are completing this job on our shop 2021 Toyota Tundra. This fix will work with most leaf packs installed on modern trucks such as Tacomas, F150s, etc.
Our current favorite lubricant: wd40.com.au/product/high-performance-silicone
Still squeaking? You likely are getting noise at the bushings. Pulling one end of the leaf packs' ends off and heavily greasing the outside of the bushing will generally fix this issue.
Thanks for watching!

Been a year since you've put up a video. C'mon, man! You've got great stuff and are easy to deal with. Show it off!
We hear you! Been busy, but there's a lot more in the works. This should get some as love as well soon.
@@hotshotoffroad Nothing but love for you guys. Just gotta give you a hard time because I know you're good people!
Just got my yellow S2 wide corner set today excited to mount them in my bumper
Awesome - They're excellent in that position. Low and wide!
@hotshotoffroad I can't wait
Excellent comparison. Thank you.
so for night single track riding, would you suggest the spot or the combo?
Absolutely recommend the combo pattern to avoid any "tunnel-vision" effect.
Have these moved around on you at all?
Sometimes after a hard run I’ll notice that some have danced around a touch. Generally not a ton of movement from ours during any sort of daily driving or crawling activities.
I’ve got a 2017 Toyota tundra I want all the chrome you take off of it if it will fit on my truck
The only thing I still have are the chrome mirror caps if you still want those!
Doing this exact mod, very helpful video..thank you!
What i did to silent them permanently i lifted the truck chassis to let the diff droop then with a pry bar seprated each leaf i could , cleaned them and squeezed a clear silicone caulk in between. Let the truck back down wipe the excess and done!! No more squeek ever again!! Wont attract dust or be removed by water splash like grease .
For s2 pro which pattern is best for fog light
I followed your fix. Worked perfect! I was chasing it for weeks. Thank you
Glad it worked for you!
Excellent
I did this, but they used barly like 1 layer of the rubber and it lasted only 3 months
Sometimes the segments will have to be realigned as they can shift, but if you’re squeaking again already you might be getting noise at the center pin or the bushings as well.
I have a GMC Sierra. Bad squeaking/groaning. I stupidly paid for new leaf springs. Less than a year they're starting to groan and clunk. I assumed this was from the bushings at the end of the leaf pack. Do you know anything about GM's issue?......leaf pack noise or bushing? If bushing what would you do about that?
My 2011 is doing the same, 3 year old leaf packs. Mine is the leaf pack itself as you can feel and hear it come from the center where the leafs meat the ubolts. I pried them apart and loaded with oil. Not sure how long it's gonna last, but 1 week of silence so far.
Does the amber backlight on the ssc2 lenses differ? Because compared to tge ss3s, some ssc2s have a similar backlight, while others have a much weaker Backlight
The different lenses will reflect the light differently, and as a result the backlight will be more apparent (or not). For example, on the SSC2 if you chose a SAE Fog lens the backlight will be much more visible then when paired with a spot lens. There's many more angles for the backlight to reflect off of on the SAE fog lens. Hopefully that helps!
@@hotshotoffroad thanks for the reply! So if I’m choosing the ss3 sae yellow max, what ssc2s should i choose in order for the backlights intensity to match the ss3?
@@Asdfg-fw9ib Something like the combo, flood, or even driving should have similar backlight intensity. Also, we've got them all available over at Hotshot Offroad!
I disagree s1 is great!
What’s the turn around time?
On an order? Were 1-2 days out on them is all. We try to keep a few on hand.
Watching this video reinforce my belief that grill covers are a way better and cheaper option
Any updates? Have they stayed in place since installing?
We OCCASIONALLY get a little bit of movement in the instances when we really lash on the suspension, but we've never had any fall out. Looking at the truck today I think that there's 3 pieces that could use adjustment, but there's no sound from back there at all.
Best option anywhere. Thanks for making great quality. It worked out well. The way it should've been in the first place, Toyota.
Thanks bro. Great job.
No problem! Glad we could help.
Hey man just a question do the rubber bits slip out when your on a track and the leafs are flexing a lot
They'll shift around sometimes in high speed use-cases, but we don't get movement on them when we're crawling. There's enough pressure on them that even when the leaves open up they're pretty much pressed into place.
Am I missing something? I thought the noise came from the bushings.
In our experience a lot of the noise from Icon RXTs anyway come from the interaction between the leaves themselves! It's not often from the bushings. Now their UCAs on the other hand... definitely the bushings!
Interesting Idea! I'm going to give this a try on my Tundra. Sub'd
Thanks for the sub! Hope it helped out!
Very well done review, great to see a side-by-side comparison. Helped mt figure out which one I wanted and why. Thank you!
You are a saint sir!
Great video. Exactly what I was looking for right now. I just bought the Baja's and they're just a tad brighter off to the side. I know I'm 3 years late, but subscriber number 800 baby🎉.
Woot! Thanks for the support, and happy that we could help! We've been quite slow on uploading, but we're putting things in place to solve that problem we hope.
So why are these so much cheaper than Sparks Parts? Just for the sensor cover is over $300 and they’re charging over a $1k for the rear bumper covers.
And any updates on the sensor cover?
I'm terribly sorry that I didn't see this. I have no idea why the OEM sensor covers are so expensive. We had to purchase a couple to get it right, but so far a couple of years later no issues!
Colton: Thanks for taking the time to CLEARLY label the on-screen comparisons and leave them on screen long enough to comprehend.. I have watched way too many videos of folks who just describe what they are displaying which leads to confusion. PS: Your voice is excellent - don't chang it to the overly excited - this is incredible - ow WOW - over the top dialog. Yours is just perfect.
Yeah I don't think I could ever have that persona. Far to forced an unnatural for me. I'm a nerd though so I am happy to share what I know. Glad that the comparison helped! The feedback is much appreciated.
A shop I went to cut a tire and put the rubber between the springs and sprayed some grease on it and so far it’s good. It’s been like 3 months
That truck looks awesome Planning to do something like that on my 2016 tundra
You should! It's been one of the biggest single visual changes to the truck for sure.
Still a valid review vid. You did a fine job. I especially like the added comments in regards to what "you" saw from the cab.
Yeah we've got some more coming finally, and there will absolutely be more "experience" stitched in.
It sucks that Icon made leafs that squeak and have yet to fix this problem or quit selling them. Mine squeaked after 3,000 miles, and haven’t stopped. GET DEAVER if you’re in the market
Where did you find the smart key handles? I’ve been searching the internet and can’t find. I have the same 2021 Tundra in magnetic grey metallic
I picked them up from a company called Sparks Parts. You can google them, and should be able to find painted smartkey handles there!
Awesome video and thank you. I know it's about a year later but did you get the pre collision sorted out? If it's in another video I apologize I just found your content. Be safe and be blessed!
Yes I did. I purchased a different TSS sensor cover and it has worked flawlessly since! I would link you to it, but the listing that I used is now gone.
Great video Aimed proper as you described how are they in rain / fog / snow ? Any glare ? Thick pea soup fog and blizzards are what I plan to use them in. Guess they can be aimed and mounted lower as I’m buying universal mounts
The glare is minimal! That's the whole point of these is to cut through the blizzards, fog, etc! That said, you'll want to make sure to get at least the pro power level so that the lens face gets hot enough to actively clear off driving snow.
I use surface shield by blaster and I coat the entire undercarriage with it. Then I jack up the body of the truck and spray it between the open leafs in the pack. Spray your underneath like this once a year for two to three years and it builds up to a nice surface to where no rust and no squeaks. I do like this idea as well
could you please list the materials needed to do this
The fuckin clown comment caught me off guard LMAO
Gotta sneak an easter egg in there every once in a while!
I have spent so much time and money on trying to figure out how to make my leaf springs stop squeaking. Just did this and it absolutely worked !! Thank you!!
AWESOME! We love to hear when we have a confirmed fix!
I lije the original better
Have the same set up and the squeak monster is frustrating at times. Will try this. Did you do anything to the actual bushings? Or just the plastic spacer pads. Thank and great vid. New sub here
Hey there! We "generally" don't get a ton of noise from the bushings. Every situation is different, but we find this to be the fix most of the time. That said, we are pretty deliberate about greasing bushings on install too.
Imo this is a must to mod. Makes it look so much better
Absolutely! Couldn't agree more
@@hotshotoffroad 2014 don't have the sensor, I think😮
Incredibly helpful video, thank you!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for letting us know!
I cant find a senor cover that works for my truck. Which one did you end up finding?
We found this one on ebay and it has worked well for us. www.ebay.com/itm/265517493439
What’s the website you got this from?
Picked it all up from www.paintedoemparts.com/ . Been very happy with their work!
Do the inner tubes slide out after a bit? especially with the grease in between the leaf springs? just curious I'm trying to narrow down which method I want to use, thanks!
We had one guy with a 1st Gen Tundra who runs high-speed often and he has to adjust his shims every few weekends when he races. Other than that, there's a bunch of other rigs out there who never has to fight with them moving!
Same leaf packs on my tacoma, loud as a mofo. About to trash them bc it’s a stupid problem.
How do the rear door handles change out? I presume easier since no wire connection.
Quite easy! Same as the front except for not having to pull the door trim. A single bolt inside the door jamb and it comes right out.
Any updates on the squeaks. Did it comemback or pretty gone.
We’re still silent over here!
I prefer the oem crome on my black Tundra it gives it a classy look easier to clean.
There's definitely folks that love their chrome! Can't take that away from ya! We prefer the color match most of the time over here though when we can.
