Ep 31- Cool Beans on the Great Loop - Frankfort, MI to Grand Haven, MI
This week we continue our journey on Michigan's west coast. We only travelled two days (!) but we enjoyed both Pentwater and Grand Haven. The weather here has been very windy and we just won't travel with waves, so we are staying put until it lightens up. We introduce you to two more of our Boat Buddies, Evan and Mike on Strummin' Along! They share about their boat and what they can't live without while Looping! Thanks for following along, and we appreciate all of your comments and support! :-)

    So sad your loop is almost over. You're probably getting close to Chicago and the rivers. I think they go faster since the distances between marinas, unless you're planning side trips. (Nashville or Chattanooga). Have really enjoyed the videos. As an aside, think it was a trivia question on the radio driving into work years ago. What state has the most lighthouses? It was Michigan!

      @coolbeansloop2024 11 днів тому

      Hello, and thank you for the compliment! I hope you catch up to where we are today (Ep 30!) You don't need reservations ahead of time, you can call as you are getting close to a destination (or use the app called Dockwa, if a marina participates). We have been very lucky that we haven't had any trouble getting spots at marinas. But some loopers we know make them for weeks ahead of time. I don't personally like that because due to weather, things change often and then there's a list of marinas to call and change. So we try to mainly do same-day or 1 to 2 days ahead of time. Thanks and let us know if you have any other questions! and I might do this for interesting boat information next week! Thanks for watching! :-)

    You guys are awesome, loving the channel. We are a few years away from our loop trip, but I am researching as much as possible to try to avoid some of the mood killers haha. While you are at the border of US and Canada I saw you checked in with Canada, do you have to report if you go back and forth? (across the border) Or did you stay on that side once you checked in? And now for kind of a dumb question, what would have happened if you did not check back in to the USA? Not maliciously or with any intent to defraud in any way? Just if you couldn't figure out the process that seems to be quite convoluted.

    • @coolbeansloop2024
      @coolbeansloop2024 11 днів тому

      Hey Steve, that is NOT a dumb question! First, thanks so much for your compliment. We appreciate it and are glad you are doing your research! We did too, there's probably no way to know EVERYTHING so when you do go, just enjoy and go with the flow! But back to your question - we have NO IDEA what would have happened - the guy at the marina suggested strongly that we figure out how to check in - not sure why! I mean, how would they ever know we were back and didn't "check in"! We think it's just a way for the gov't to get more money from us. :-) Thanks so much for watching!

    I was stationed at Camp Lejeune for 8 years & drowned lots of worms in the inlets ! Thanks for the memories of the ‘River ! After Lejeune , I worked The Dismal Swamp with USMC SF for a year before going to Norfolk for my final 3 years where ii worked with the Navy!! Sadly the 2 brigs at Lejeune have torn down & replaced with a newer smaller facility . You are an excellent motivator to make this old salt go on a vacation !

    I had no idea it was such a pain to get back into the US …didn’t the AGLCA prep you for information about how to go through the process in advance? We’ll likely be doing a cruise up to the North Channel next summer, so I’m going to file this valuable tip into my brain and try to remember to plan ahead for that before we leave! BTW, I love how you find so many coffee shops with the word “Bean” in them. 😂

Thanks for driving over! and YES we find so many fun places with BEAN in the title - watch for another one in this Wednesday's episode!! :-)

    • @coolbeansloop2024
      @coolbeansloop2024 18 днів тому

      Hey Pamela! You just need to order it before you get back to the US - you don't need a physical decal, you'll just need the decal NUMBER when you use the CPB Roam app to check back into the US. Sorry we didn't explain that better! Let me know if you need any other clarification! Thanks for watching! :-)

    Just out of curiosity, do you guys intend to bring your boat all the way back to Kemah? And if so, do you all intend to keep it, or do you plan to sell it once you complete the loop? Safe travels.

We will be crossing our wake in a couple of months and can either leave her in Mobile, AL for the new owners, or take her back to Kemah and will sell her there! We are pretty flexible! :-) Thanks for asking and thanks for watching!

    Just stumbled across your channel today and binged watched several videos. We are in the planning phase of a June 2026 trip through the Trent Severn waterway. Currently getting our new to us 2005 Sea Ray Sundancer up to snuff, learning the boat, and getting some shorter trips under our belt. Thank you for creating and sharing your videos. Hey Pamela! Thanks for watching! We got very lucky with insurance - we have State Farm, and we called our regular broker and was insured in a few minutes. Our other boats are insured with Progressive, but we did as,, and they wouldn't insure us due to the size of Cool Beans. If you have State Farm, try them! Good luck! :-)

    I saw the Aggie flag and that turned me off. I am an electrician and am currently working on a building that is a Tarlton state school owned by Texas A&M. The hatred for the longhorns is ridiculous. We can’t have anything burnt orange in the building. And as far as being engineers it is laughable.

    • @coolbeansloop2024

    • @coolbeansloop2024

      Hey Tony! We have a Garmin nav and use Navionics on a tablet for chart plotting - and both show the rocks (rather, depth) in the Georgian Bay. If there is an error it's usually in our favor, so that has been nice! Rocks you can't see are generally outside of the marked channel, so just stay in-between the channel markers and you should be fine! Thanks for your kind words and we wish you were out here too! You are going to LOVE the LOOP! Keep getting excited and doing lots of research! :-)
