Is there a benefit to it? What are the positives and negatives? We will go through all of this in this episode. So let's dive in and get out and live a little!

      We used the app Turo to rent. You rent directly from the owners of the cars and can work with them to set a pick up point near the ports.

    I find that Celebrity is neglecting their older ships but prefer them over the Edge class ships, because it is more personal in the Retreat class due to being smaller. You did a great job pointing out the limitations of the older ships.

    Thanks for the very informative and comprehensive video. We are planning to get on from Solvae at 11pm and arrive in Tromso at 6pm the next day. Do you recommend getting a room for one night vs the ferry seat? So if we get a room, do we get all the foods you showed 😋 . Also, is there a room that sleeps 5? 😝

    Pretty much dead on with my thoughts. I wish the Retreat Lounge had a bar you could sit at on the Edge-class ships but everything else about them is better. Honestly, on the Solstice-class ships, I thought Blu was better than Luminae with those huge windows overlooking the aft of the ship... They should switch Blu and Luminae locations on those ships in my opinion.

    We have been in the Retreat on the Ascent and then on the Reflection. We expected some downgrade in the “experience” considering the Reflection is one of the ones with no sun deck but left pleasantly surprised: the ship was pristine, our suite was very spacious (we do prefer the modern decor of the revolutionized and Edge class ships), food and service were superb. I would say Retreat in the older ships still gives you a lot of bang for the buck! Planning to sail on the Silhouette soon which we expect will be a step above the Reflection experience. ❤

    I did the Glass Blowing class on the Eclipse. I enjoyed it a lot. If you want to try it... please do. The thrill of having what you made yourself is worth it. But I would not book an older ship just for that, because I do agree with your conclusion.

    We are taking our first Celebrity cruise and we booked the retreat (suite) for summer 2025. (We have taken other cruise lines 10+ times before.) It is on one of the older ships (Solstice) to Alaska. We are hoping we will enjoy it. We don't think the lack of a sundeck will matter in Alaska, but we definitely would want one on a warmer weather cruise. Thanks for your perspective on the comparison! We hope to try a newer ship at some point.

    Thanks for the video. I was looking at Oceania for a 10 day cruise this winter and Explora is less money with bigger cabins and a better passenger crew ratio. Plus no gratuity and included alcohol. But I love a very relaxed dress code in the Caribbean. I wouldn't want to be part of a stuffy fashion show when on vacation. What is your thoughts?

    Have to disagree after spending 16 days on Apex and Ascent Retreat. Not sure how comprehensive your evaluation was or what ships you were comparing (you refer to a 3 day YC cruise?) Love large pool in YC, complimentary thermal suite access, entertainment in larger more beautiful lounge. VIP treatment on private island, butler service (was lacking to nonexistent on Retreat but consistent on MSC YC). Food???? Very subjective Luminae was OK but not spectacular would say thing about YC. Pricing for one week cruise is typically 30-50% less on YC vs, Retreat I would give edge to X only on the quality of the rest of the ship..... although MSC is flashy. Sorry IMHO a very subjective shallow review... crack in the wall in YC? We always felt much more catered to in YC versus standard X suites.

    • @lindsayslivealittle
      @lindsayslivealittle 8 днів тому

      Thanks for the comment. I think it is all very subjective. This was just our experience. I will admit we have only spent 4 nights on MSC Yact club where we have done about 35 nights on Celebrity Retreat. You definitely get some amazing benefits with the YC that we absolutely loved. Food is subjective but in our opinion the quality, and food in general is better on Celebrity. And feels elevated from a main dining room. Also subjective and depending on your sailing is the butlers. We have had amazing ones on both! We have not had a bad one on either line. I also just want to add that this is our honest opinion from our experiences that we paid for 100% on our own. Everyone has different experiences and different things they value.

    • @bradjohnson233
      @bradjohnson233 7 днів тому

      @@lindsayslivealittle Thanks for responding. Agree it is all subjective (we were X only elite cruisers and no longer look at them primarily)....but I frankly do not feel a YC evaluation based on a four day cruise compared with 35 nights Retreat fair. No mention of the ships either which can have more variance than the cruise line at times. You mentioned butlers... on our last X cruises (early this year) a butler was nonexistent. Supposedly this is being changed but my takeaway is that YC has for years been a consistent product (in price, quality, and features) where X Retreat is inconsistent especially on pricing. We are excited to try the new Princess Sun Sanctuary which is their new entry into dedicated suite area. Happy cruising.

    • @lindsayslivealittle
      @lindsayslivealittle 7 днів тому

      Thanks for responding. We definitely want to try the Yacht Club again. And have more experience with different ships. We had a great time on the Seashore. As for the Retreat we have currently been on the Apex, Edge, Beyond and Silhouette. However this review was before the Edge and Beyond since we did those recently. The beginning of this year Celebrity decided to take away a lot of benefits that they have now given most of them back. So in the beginning of the year they took away butlers for Sky Suites and let go a bunch of Butlers putting a strain on the existing ones! We are excited for the new version on the Princess cruise and hope we can try it out in the next year or two!

    Our most recent Celebrity cruise was on Silhouette. 13 days/Scandinavia. While we enjoyed the ship, staff, food, entertainment, etc., I simply feel the Edge class ships offer a better Retreat experience. The lounge on Silhouette was comfy, but no real windows to the outside, or outside seating. Make no mistake, I enjoyed the Silhouette cruise, but our next two have been booked on Edge and Ascent. But then I think the biggest thing between the two is do you want big performances at night, activities during the day like archery and crafts (Celebrity) or do you want quiet more relaxed vibes. Sip a cocktail, read a book, walk around, hang in the pool, do the thermal spa. Then I would suggest Explora. You said a no kids trip. There might be other children in the retreat depending on the sailing and time of year. Where there will be a small amount on most sailings for Explora on the ship overall. Really think you can’t go wrong with either option just comes down to what vibe are you looking for… more showy (Celebrity) or very calm and relaxing (Explora)

      @@lindsayslivealittle I had gotten hooked on watching the Retreat Edge class ship videos but we need a chill trip, so Explora it is! Thanks again!

    I'm doing an Alaskan Cruise next July of 2025. And It's my first Alaskan Cruise. Going on the Princess Coral Cruise Liner. One of my excursions will be on a seal plane going over the glaciers. It's a bit pricy, but I really do believe this will be worth it, because this might be the only time I'll go on this trip. Traveling two days through connecting flights cross the US. But I'm really looking forward to the trip! I do have a question though. When is the beginning of the season? I subscribed to your channel.

      We hope you have a fantastic and unforgettable trip! That sounds like an amazing excursion! Thanks for subscribing! The beginning of the season is May. We have gone twice now in May. And the end of the season is October. But personally we wouldn’t suggest much later than the 1st week of October. We went the last week of September and a good amount was starting to close for the season.

    Would be great to see a compilation video of Retreat vs Haven vs Explora Journeys…. Cost is in the same realm for all products - but it would be fun for you two to share your “which one did we love the best” and which one is the best value for the money (not which one is the cheapest - but the best value for the experience). Great videos !! Keep up the amazing work!!

    Your content is really good but you didn't get proper audience views and subscribe because of your lack of proper SEO. I can do SEO and promotion for you with a video for free. If the result is good, we will discuss it later. If you agree?

    Nice tour of the ship! We're heading for our 3rd Havila trip next week and can hardly wait. Also, we'll be in Bergen at the end of the trip so we'll be able to experience the Christmas market and gingerbread city - thanks for the previews. I hope, though, that we're able to get on the boat in Bergen instead of having to traipse up to Trondheim!

      Thank you so much for watching! We love that coat! Bought it for this trip since after the Christmas markets we went to Norway past the Arctic Circle and it was great! Has also been great on snowy days at home like this past week!
