Invasive Species Removal | Why Goats Are The Answer
After years of being dependent on heavy machinery and chemicals, tearing through forests, getting cut up, bit by mosquitoes and ticks, I was fed up.
There had to be a better way and I decided to be the one to find the solution. As an ecologist I knew that goats could manage problematic vegetation, fertilize the land, and provide extra resources for my family all while enjoying a better quality of life. Tell me what brand of lawn mower can do all that for you? It doesn't exist. Since the inception of Goat Dispatch, I have learned and won some hard earned lessons in using goats to create a better approach to land management. Now, after all of my years exploring this exciting field, I created grazegoats.com. A site where you can learn how to transform your land or start a goat grazing career yourself.

Goat Browsing in Cool Season to Restore Oak Savanna - Goat Dispatch Goat Rental
Переглядів 1,2 тис.4 роки тому
The results of goats working in a oak savanna in November in Minnesota. We strongly believe that cool season browsing was the major driver of the oak savanna in Minnesota. It is ture bur oaks are resistant to some levels of fire with their thin bark but the main purpose of this major investment of thick bark was and is to deter bark stripping in browsing animals like goats! This is why Minnesot...

Goat Breeding - Females meet the "Bachelors"
Переглядів 34 тис.8 років тому
Keeping the goats working as much as possible is important to us at Goat Dispatch. We bring the bucks out to the fields to hand-breed our does while they work. When a doe is ready to breed she will be standing by the buck pens and wagging her tail. We then put her inside the pen with the buck who has the traits we are trying to breed for to make the best "Service Goat" that we can. We do need t...
Goat Grazing of Cattails to promote species diversity
Переглядів 2,1 тис.8 років тому
This area was grazed in one time in July with goats and we revisit the site in November to see how the area has responded. We found very little if any re sprouting cattails in this area. The has allowed for more light to hit the ground and kick start some other desirable plants such as blue-flag iris.
Goat Grazing in Wetland Areas
Переглядів 4,5 тис.8 років тому
Goat grazing can be very beneficial around ponds and wetland situations. We are amazed at the amount of different plant diversity we see on some of these sites. We were once told that goats don't like to get their feet wet. For the most part this is true but we do have certain goats that really don't mind getting out along the waters edge with water up to their knees! While wetland areas can be...
Goat Grazing in a Prairie / Pasture Setting
Переглядів 3,5 тис.8 років тому
Spraying and mechanical mowing a prairie/pasture setting often leads to a dominance of grass species. Often many broad-leaf plants and wildflowers lose out in this type of management technique. We have found goat grazing to be a great alternative to help support greater diversity in these settings. When timed correctly goats will concentrate on some of the undesirable plants before they go to s...

We have seen 5 year old buckthorn completely top killed (only re...

Переглядів 5 тис.8 років тому
Goat wrangler Jake talks about the frequency of timing of goat grazing in an established woodland. Goat treated vs untreated areas are shown. This video was filmed in early November when the natives have mostly gone into dormancy. Buckthorn is one of the few plants that stays green often into December. You will see very little green buckthorn in the woods treated with goats.

Hello super smart edumaded marmalade heads, ⚓ ancient Sheppard say, " 🐐 goats & 🐫 camel eat everything everyday until the great Sahara Forrest becomes desert! "Prescribed grazing" I don't care who you are, that's funny. Thank you. I'll be using that in jokes for the rest of my life!

It's metaphorically like aliens trying to help human being at the trailer park)(why is it always a trailer park👾 Frankenstein say, "Because trailer look like spaceship to them, they think they're helping wayward travelers get away from earth which they consider ⬜ "ville(squareville). Tonto say, " Me no square , 👘 live in teepee, kimosabi!" Tarzan say, "Don't look at me, I live in tree".

Great video! What type of goats do you use / recommend? Does it matter which breed? How much would it cost (roughly) to have goats come to my property - an overgrown two acre wooded area - or - how much do you charge? Thanks!

Most bluebird agencies recommend having the boxes face south. The prevailing winds in the USA are from the southwest. That would have rotating boxes mostly facing northeast.

Hi! While this sure looks fun, I don't think it is a good idea to handle birds. You can get diseases from birds and they can get diseases from people. While it's obvious you care about nature and birds... I don't love that this video is encouraging a very dangerous practice for both species.

My experience with goats is that it is all about timing. You may think that they are not eating some plants and you may be right but at a different time in the season they do. They may also only eat the tops but come back later and eat the rest. Also, there is a huge difference between having goats on the land for a few weeks versus actually living on that land permanently.

Do you ever get over to Chippewa County, WI? The farm had been in the family since 1911. With no more cattle in the pasture, it has mostly grown up into popple trees. They grow up fast, rot, and fall over. But even on our home site, what issn't field is all brush now.
