First how old are your records? What types of cartridges were used before ? Do you buy records second hand ? These questions are important... the record is what you're listening to? The history of that record and what came before is embedded in the grooves and become part of the signature of that record? So the grooves are as big as the last stylus? And tracking force. So records take on different shapes iin the course of it's life ? And every Stylus that comes after , so i think the question might be what cartridge can play what you currently own? How old is your collection, I've been to some used record shops and they had nice setups and they have to play lots of records in all degrees of used for hours daily... So if you get your records from whatever source you can ,then a cartridge that's more reliable and not exotic? Changeable stylus is a good place to start, you have your stylus for swap meet stuff and another one for pristine stuff. If you only play pristine recoords ,then you still need a dedicated cartridge ? What is your main listing done on?

Two turntables in my Audio Life..A Dual 1019, ( in 1968) and a B&O 4004. (in 1972). If you love B&O you know Mr Ledermann. Just received "Flower By the Dry River" the album he mastered and recorded in his facility, If you enjoy Jazz improv this is for you. Next up is the 'Voice' for my recently purchased second 4004, and a re-ferb for my SMMC20CL+ cartridge...

I’ve loved my Zephyr MIMC Star for 8 years. It’s the best cartridge for the $$ out there. His phono pre amps are amazing value too….ive got the MCP2 on the Zephyr Star

Shure V15 type 3 W/ a Jico SAS stylus, still outstanding if you have one...I like those Harbeth speakers.

Thanks for doing the video. I have my copy of this and I am extremely happy to have all three one step Patricia Barber Albums. She is definitely one of my top five favorite jazz artist of all time. Keep up the great work guys.

Can we stop with the “women aren’t here” stuff? Most women never were here. They like other hobbies. “WAF” factor tells us women generally don’t want this stuff in the living spaces.😮 Women know where to find HiFi gear so we shouldn’t pretend someone is keeping them out of the hobby. Some women dig it; most seem indifferent. My guess is the average young woman will be bored by the mention of a turntable with an “inverted bearing “ or coupling V.S. Decoupling equipment or the benefits of oxygen free copper and why we cryogenically treat vacuum tubes. And we gotta also understand that the “average man” is not much into all those things!😮

I truly appreciate this information. I wasn’t really interested in purchasing the Frank Sinatra once instead. However this information is intriguing. I’ll definitely take a listen to this album again. Maybe I’ll add it to my collection. I do have one question though with the new Patricia Barber one step that will be released on 30 April. I’m curious to know why that album has not been promoted pretty much at all?

I find it extremely disingenuous of Nick Getz to have collected USD$ 70,131 from 294 backers in this kickstarter campaign to fund his documentary and he has been keeping all of us in the dark for so long with no regular updates on this film progress at all. Astonishingly, the promised release date was October 2022. Not a peep about what's going on for many months now.

Zero measurements. How about measuring distortion. Something useful. Reading the catalog page is not useful. Buy a test disk like the one Ortofon makes, record the 1 kHz tone with your computer using free software like Audacity. Plot the Spectrum. The ratio of the 1 kHz peak to the 2 kHz distortion is going to be between 0.5% and 3% for different cartridges. Measure them and report it. That would actually be valuable. You will quickly find that the distortion is directly proportional to the stylus edge radius. So buy a .2 Mil vivid line from Audio Technica and you can't beat it.

Had a Boston Acoustics MC-200 ($200) back in the 80's. A great moving-coil cartridge! Unfortunately, the stylus was accidentally broken off, and I have not found a replacement; the MC-200 no longer made. Loved that cartridge!

I bought a stereo re-press or a re-release on Verve records a couple of years ago at my local records store. I absolutely love it. No question it's my favorite jazz album.

Keep in mind that moving coil cartridges require a different phono preamp.

What about the low mass ortofon

I always Ortofon is a hyped and not top notch. It is like Windows to me in computer world. It is richest in terms of market share and revenue but is it the best machine ? :-)I I know I am perhaps wrong.

Buy a VM95ML and turn down the treble if it sounds too bright for ya. That’s really all you need.

Don't think the sound quality is relevant but if it improves warps then well worth it.

Won’t the weight slow player down

The Denon 301mkII is a fantastic low output moving coil under $500. I’ve tried many cartridges over the past 20 years and this one really has no shortcomings. The transients and dynamics are what set a LOMC apart from MM and this one delivers. But if you want a budget MM, the Sumiko Pearl($120)is an outstanding performer and works great for a wide variety of music and is forgiving of your older, less than minty Lps than others in this price range.

Has Al's double album been released yet ? Will Impex be releasing it ? What is or will be the title ? I have the ear copy of SNiSF and it blows me away. Waiting for Impex copy to arrive from Elusive Disc. Looking forward to comparing. These videos are great. Thank you Elusive Disc.

What an insightful video, Robert! I own all these albums and love IMPEX label. Even though I appreciate the high quality and added features of these jackets, I have never thought about the design and level of detail as you do. It is absolutely amazing to see the attention and love you guys put into these releases. Please kindly make another video on your 1Steps, I would love to learn about those as well!!!

Saw Stan in 1966-67 at the Rainbow Grill NYC and had him sign my "Sweet Rain" album. Then I saw him in 1968 in Boston at a club. I also saw him in NYC at Carnegie Hall. I then saw him at a club in the Village in NYC and when he came on stage he looked at me and nodded hello! I was blown away. Somehow, he remembered my face so I guess he did have a photographic memory! My favorite Sax player! I have all his albums!
