How I make a Simple Set of Sharpening Tools – Narrated Version
In this video, I'll explain my process for making a simple set of tools for sharpening straight knives and hook knives. The materials for this set are quite easy to find at any local hardware store. The next video will show how I use these tools to sharpen my knives, so stay tuned! If you enjoy these types of narrated videos, please let me know in the comments. Don't forget to like and subscribe! :)
List of materials I used: 3 pieces of flat wood (25 cm x 3 cm x 0.5 cm), 3 wooden dowels (25 cm x 1.1 cm diameter), all-purpose glue, 6 different sheets of sandpaper for metal - wet or dry (180, 320, 800, 1200, 2000, and 3000 grit).

Hi, very nice and beautiful. How kind of wood did you need?❤
I do much of my sharping using the same methods. After some experimentation I have found the use of wax as the bonding source works pretty well. Easy to apply and easy to change paper. Just warm it when you are reattaching new paper to make it stick better.
If you enjoy woodworking, you will love WoodPrix. Get inspired by all the endless possibilities of furniture plans and other wood projects to build, for both indoors and outdoors.
Very nice thankyou so much
Can you make a video about working with green wood, from cutting to preserving it and dealing with it. Thank you!
Wow, it looks nice:)
I love to whittle. Wish I knew how to start making something beautiful and useful like this.
Those are beautiful Keep up the great work dude
Hey I notice you got a bump on your palm so do I . I get those but I don’t know what they are ….. I think my first little wood sculpture is going to be a cat
I am impressed with your skills and how beautiful your work is do you sell your pieces?
On a previous occasion, I removed a log from a state park and was issued a citation, the exact sum of which I recall to be either 170 or 140.
❤❤❤
Most of your carving techniques will damage your hands.
❤
Is that cherry wood? Looking awesome
this one is maple (:
Wow.... that's so soothing 😍
Wow....nice idea.... I am following you bcz of these kind of extraordinary carving thoughts..... amazing....keep carving🎉🎉🎉
😁 🙏🏽
Nice job....I go to the woods, lean against a tree hatchet in tote carving set hook blade sloyed blade and commence to carve spoons, cups...and all my stress thru the week is gone.
Who made the final sling knife? Beautiful work and wonderful videography! Setting and workstation gives tranquility
Beautiful work
What is the name of the tool you are using
Do you teach online classes? It would be fun to join!
sadly not at the moment 😕 but I do have some more content on my patreon, some videos are for free members as well you should check it out (: patreon.com/NadavArtandWood?Link
Appreciate you messaging- I watched quite a few of your videos today- I saw the one that showed you making tool sharpeners- do you have one that highlights your tools- if not that would be really cool too- also do you sell your items somewhere- if so if you could let me know- very nice work 👍
@@onetimearound1275 good Idea! I might do something similar in the future (: I have some items for sale just did a small shop update 10 days ago - nadavartwood.com/shop
Very nice- this would make a nice serving fork for salads
Carving sound is also nature.
hey, in your vids it looks like the wood you carve is quite dry. do you find that that helps you carve overal or do you do the bulk cuts when wet and finer detail once a bit dryer?
yes I try to do the big cuts and the general shape when wet, then the final touches when dry. usually it gives me more control and accurate cuts (:
Dude that spoon is magnificent, I gasped at its beauty
beautifil. u can make it in mnutes with help of machines
Very very nice. Thank you for sharing
The beauty of your simple system is that it can be tailored to the carvers specific tools rather than a one-size-fits-all approach of the commercially available systems. Thank you for answering a question many new wood carvers seldom ask. Re the glue issue, I've seen hot-melt glue used for similar purposes. To remove the sand paper you just heat it with a heat gun and peal the paper off. Denatured alcohol will remove any hot-melt glue residue before the next application.
take silicone, that is removable, cheap and strong
thanks good video
I've seen a few ways of carving on UA-cam, I like this way. This is pretty much exactly how I carve spoons. Although I leave some extra wood on the top to make a 2 pronged spork.
Thank you for sharing this journey, I found the tutorial very informative. Can you suggest tips for finding the right raw material that can be processed without a saw or an axe? I am just getting started, and would prefer to not acquire tools if I can get by without them.
Like this format very much. Relaxing and useful. One question, have you dried the wood before carving? I saw a video where man waited a month for the wood to dry, or it's working only for winter and wet wood? Thanks
Beautiful!
Sooooooo satisfying ❤
Fantastic as always 👏🏽
Your work is beautiful mate, we’ll done 👍👍👍
Wow stunning work! What wood is that?
Very sharp knife I've cut my finger and thumb with it before
Another option is to make your flat slats out or medium thickness of Acrylic with the rubber cement , and PVC pipe as your round dowel
If you use Rubber cement it is made to hold things but to be easily removed
Sentire in cuffia il taglio e una godura
I dont know about new glues but i think a mixture of pine resin and charcoal will do the job, you heat the mixture and glue the sandpaper, when you need to unglue it you can just heat over a fire or with an heatgun the object and you will have a liquid glue again
❤
Hey wait, are you the guy who cut a dead wood from a park and made a spoon with it?
thanks!
Thin razor blades or utility knives are good, cheap alternatives to old victronox knives. You can buy them in packs of 100 for under $10-20 USD pretty much any hardware store or online
I’ve made the same ones from paint stirring sticks, 13 yrs.old and going strong. Good idea on the round ones
