Welcome to my channel, I'm Maria:) I am Japanese, and originally from Japan. Lived in Canada for six years (that's where I learned English).
I made this channel, because when I studied abroad in Canada, I had many friends who wanted to learn the Japanese language/the culture, so I'm hoping to help people out there who are also interested in this culture/the language! I'm not a certified Japanese teacher or anything, but my first language is Japanese, I'm fluent in it, and I've lived/(live right now) in Japan since I was born, so my goal here is really for you to be familiar with and understand the culture/language from a native perspective. I know grammar and phrases may be difficult for some of you to understand because of their unique culture, but I will try my best to explain these concepts as well.

This is day 13 of my Japanese learning journey with this 3rd video. I have a small doubt. Why は is used instead of わ in some words like こんにちは ,こんばんは etc.? For example こんにちは sounds like ko n ni chi ha. And こんにちわ sounds like ko n ni chi wa. ありがとうございます
Good for you, keep up the good work! About your question, I’m actually not very familiar with the background but I searched it and apparently it has some historical reason (all credits to google search I actually didn’t know this) Back in the day, some Japanese characters were pronounced differently depending on where that particular character was located in the word. The letter “は“ was pronounced like “ha” if this was at the beginning of the word, but if not, it was pronounced like “wa”. Then, some ages later, it was decided so that these characters represent closer to how it is actually pronounced, so those different sounds were assigned to another character. However, the “は” was left out and it is still carrying the old pronunciation method where it is pronounced like “wa” if it is not at the beginning of the sentence till this day. “はし“ (chopsticks) -> Hashi “はり” (needle) -> Hari “こんばんは” (good evening)-> Konbanwa “わたしは、__です。”(I am ___)-> watashiwa ___desu If you want to know more about it, you can Google “why does japanese character は sounds like わ” and you might find something that helps you with your understanding. I am a lazy person who suddenly decided to learn Japanese just so as to enjoy anime in its original form. I'm glad that I stumbled upon this channel. This is the day 1 of my attempt in learning the Language so I came to the oldest video available on this channel. Seems like part 1 of this video is not available for some reason,but I think it should be about the basic hiragana characters which I should refer before I jump to this video. Arigatō gozaimasu.

Yes! “の“ is not needed わたしは(name)です This works fine
Is it both “Watashi Wa ____Desu” and “watashino namaewa___desu” for “My name is” I’m trying to learn but are they both same in Japanese or does it differ amongst people? I’m confused
They are different grammatically. It is like saying “I’m ___ “ (“watashi wa___desu”) vs. “My name is___”(“watashi no namae wa___desu”) First one is more casual and common. Also not used specific to name. You can use it to express your emotion/state, etc. Whereas, the second one is specific to introducing “name” By the way, you could even omit “watashi wa___” all together and just say your name + “desu” and it would still make sense too!

Why do some say yon (4) or nana (7) ?
This is because Japanese Kanji has various ways to pronounce the words. One of the major differences are something called “onyomi” and “kunyomi”. “Onyomi” originates from pronunciation in Chinese, while “kunyomi” originates from Japanese pronunciation, both are used in Japan. Going back to your question, 四 4(yon) is Kunyomi, 七 7 (nana) is also kunyomi. 四 4 can also be expressed as “shi” which is onyomi 七 7 can also be expressed as “shichi”which is onyomi
