I use this channel to upload videos about recapping stuff or talking about video games. This is a completely unique thing that no one has ever done. Or so I hear anyway.

Luke Looks at Stuff Done in 2023 While Playing Kirby's Dreamland

In 2023 I... didn't do too much, but I can always ramble on anyway, and Kirby's Dreamland is short enough that I don't need to talk too much. Figured seeing as this was on Switch Online it could be fun to give it a play. Hoping 2024 turns out to be a good year for everyone who watches this and at least some of the people who don't.

Luke Looks at Cinderella Boy | Episodes 10 to 13
Great video as always. Thanks for keeping up with this series for so long! One thing I noticed in the ending is how similar Lupin III: the First plays very close to the end of this one. in both films, the main antagonists and Lupin end up fighting in the air with an ancient weapon that sucks in anything nearby. and there's even a fake-out where at least some cast members think Lupin's gone too. Then again, the First is also a very memetic film, like a 'best of Lupin III,' so I presume it wanted to take a really good scene from this special.
I suppose there's not too much connecting the Fuma as depicted here in comparison to the previous appearances, but it is kind of nice to see them get acknowledged again after so long. Maybe the 2020s will see another resurfacing.
And I have my blu-ray copy of the special along with the movie.
You know, you deserve some recognition and I’m here for that. Keep up the good work man god bless 👍
I seem to keep coming back to Kikyo every so often with these for whatever reason. While I didn't really mention him, Wataru Takagi also has a connection to Monkey Punch, if not Lupin. He was the voice of Aramis in Cinderella Boy, AKA the guy always yelling "OH, MY ANGEL!" when he sees Rella.
Looking forward to the next episode!
Strange to think Green Vs Red has the same writer as this, honestly. Though like I said there, the smaller references and call backs worked even if the movie as a whole didn't. Much stronger showing this time at least.
Maybe they'll cross paths with the new series/season of Lupin. Stay Tuned 🙂
Not the last time you see McDonald's sponsoring the gang here. Or maybe the gang is sponsoring McDonald's.
I think this was the one I applied too much bass/treble shift on the audio so sorry for that. Don't know if anyone's too bothered, but I stick with Kyosuke because I refer to the cloning expert as Mamo to differentiate the two.
Wonder if the President's ice diamond was the same brand of ice Lupin was trying to get hold of at the beginning of the movie.
You can spot a man who's pretty clearly supposed to be Yuji Ohno in the bar Linda's performing at. He also appears in the next movie too, doing the same thing.
Someone on the design team evidently liked blonde girls with bob cuts, given this and the next two movies' leading ladies have that look.
So how does both Lupin Zero and The Woman Called Fujiko Mine fit into all this?
They don't, really. This was just a story being told to someone. That said, there were a few truths mixed in, given Lupin shows off the Clam of Hermes at the end and the fight with Goemon was recreated from episode 5 of Part 1.
Still something amusing seeing the gang using more conventional technology, at least for the early 2000s anyway.
Certainly a few callbacks to other stories in this movie that are fun to identify if you know where to look. Also learned that we lost Eiko Masuyama recently. Farewell Fujiko.
Lupin III: With 3D animation like you've never seen before! Note that Treasure of the Sorcerer King came out the same year and has some good 3DCG.
Good to see you back, man. I also feel that it's not an ambitious special, but it's still pretty fun all things considered.
My favorite TV Special
The shadow warrior has returned 😮
Strange to think this marks five years of looking at this series, barring the breaks. Gonna see through everything the original surviving cast did for the rest of this year, fingers crossed.
2024 could be fun, could be chaotic, but here's hoping we're all able to make it as good as we can.
Of course, there is the obvious difference that Irving would probably not make it as a detective, especially not if he's up against Mighty Washington in the exams.
But it wasn't until 2012's Lupin the 3rd: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine that Funimation would dub a Lupin television series for the first and only time.
To be honest, it's very much like an anime series arc that's shown back to back. where every 20 minutes seems like a different story. The narrative is also one of my favourites too, with it taking on more of an unsympathetic Lupin and utilizing his tricks to do some schemes he's not often give time to do, like using his empire's assets to set up a front company and steal oil from people, as well as scamming people by selling the front after. As far as villains, it seems pretty weak, but the villain is more of the concept of war. And if anything, they pushed that heavily with the brooch with the legends of historical figures using it. It may not be the first to do this sorta story, but I think this does mark the beginning of the modern era of Lupin, where the villains aren't too villainous and it's more of the concepts they represent. Overall, I like this one a lot, even if I'm not much of a fan of the lull in the middle where Lupin fakes his death. It's got a lot of memorable moments.
The bait and switch in the car park was pretty amusing. Seeing the SSK in the background in several shots only for Lupin to pull out in a Fiat 500.
Explosions fix everything in Excel Saga, but hitting stuff in the right way does so in Lupin III apparently.
Kind of funny that Koichi Yamadera and Megumi Hayashibara also starred in Cowboy Bebop around this time. Unshou Ishizuka featured in a few Lupin movies too. Only one we're missing is Aoi Tada. Looks like this is my 100th video too. How about that.
And here's a really cool fun fact, Koichi Yamadera would later eventually succeed Goro Naya as Inspector Zenigata.
Assuming the 1956-1996 is referring to him, I guess this movie confirms Count Cagliostro's age as 40, give or take.
They never outright show it but I'm guessing the Elder saved Lupin and Lara from the quicksand.
Babe wake up, a new ShadowWarriorLuke has dropped
And from what I've read, even though Monkey Punch stated that he never wanted to direct again, he did co-direct the OVA "Is Lupin Still Burning?" for the 50th anniversary of the series.
Funny how many times a disguise is shredded away to reveal another character in this one. I guess it was to show off the extra detail in the animation.
It's a shame that the English Dub of Lupin the 3rd Part 2 Episode 80 - 155 has canceled due to pioneer's license has expired.
Given Mayumi Tanaka's most famous role, there's something a bit unnerving of her voicing a character of this nature, even if it's just a voice filter. Granted, this predates that character.
It's still funny that before this, Tanaka played a crossdressing tomboy in Urusei Yatsura. So it's not the first time she's been a part of a role like this and there's a chance that's what influenced her casting here too.
@@Psycho_Monkey I was thinking more of her playing a villainous character than anything. You could be right on the casting decision though. Krillin and Luffy are who I know her best for either way. On a related note, a friend of mine also pointed out that Dragon Ball's General Blue fits a similar stereotype, so I guess it was there in the 1980s as well as the 1990s.
Lupin Encyclopedia has a magazine interview with Monkey Punch from 1995. He noted that the cast were all in their 60s and he wasn't sure how much longer they'd continue. Kind of sad in Yamada's case in hindsight really.
18 is the best episode of part 3 hands down.
One has to wonder if the design of the dragon statue is the reason Funimation got the rights to these TV movies initially, given what put them on the map in the first place.
Kind of sad just how resigned Jigen is to Karen taking her revenge here. No resistance and pretty much shoving his gun into her hand, even in her final moments when she finally lets go of her anger.
I'd make a Soviet Russia reference but it was in dissolution by 1992 so it'd be outdated. Had trouble choosing a screenshot for a thumbnail too, going between something with the gold or using the one I decided on because of the parallel to the one I used for the episode where Jigen smuggles Monica across the border.
In four or five years the Cat's Eye connection will be relevant to these videos when I finally get to reviewing that movie. Also kind of funny that the Lupin family seems to be attracted to women that look like Fujiko, given Lupin's grandmother in the flashbacks.
Kind of stood out that characters got dropped in water a fair amount. That and there was also a lot of split screen.
Happy 24th anniversary to this particular movie. We also get a canon age for Zenigata here on the ID card at the beginning. He was apparently born Christmas Day 1938, so if you assume sliding timeline is in effect, as well as accounting the time of this movie matching real time, that'd put him at 50.
This is basically "What If Lupin and Fujiko shared one body."
Happy New Year! Sounds like 2022 was uneventful for you, but with recent years, I'd suppose it's an improvement. It's been ages since I got round to play as Knuckles in Sonic 2 for the mega drive and for the longest time I gas lit myself into thinking it couldn't be done. I could have looked it up but I suppose I was too lazy.
Oh hey, I guess 2022 was also Sonic 2's 30th anniversary so that's pretty cool. Hope 2023 is good for everyone.
Thanks for covering the series. I think by the end of it, I suppose the series ends with just as much of an open end as its original story. Whether it was on purpose is another thing entirely, but it would certainly be interesting to see if the studio could return to it if possibly prompted by TMS with Lupin. Like how the most recent Lupin special will be a crossover with Cat's Eye. Which hasn't had a series since 1985, and only being relegated as a cameo in the recent City Hunter movie. Not that I'm in favor of a cinematic universe around Lupin, but just something to help give his other stories the revivals they deserve.
Not a bad series overall. In the low chance we get more I'd certainly check it out.
Apparently Arsène has a brother.
Apparently the Japanese audience straight up hated this one, and the recasting caused a rift between Yasuo Yamada and Monkey Punch. One that was never resolved.
