    • @Retroscoop
      @Retroscoop 5 місяців тому

      This comment is an insult to fair judgement. It was never said this photography replaces professional photographers. If you have 12 000 objects, you simply don't have the funds to pay a professional photographer to do just that. If you want to publish a catalogue with 70 photographs, you might consider taking a professional photographer. But my advice folks: take a friendly person, not a snotty arrrogant prick who thinks he or she is the next big National Geographic sponsored photographic ace.... Gosh... People sometimes !!!!

    You have very poor knowledge of photography.. yet you teach how to photograph art and items of historical value. You confuse flash with harsh light. You don't take into account white balance, color space profiles, image sharpness, lenses, depth of field... and so many more. Your level in photography is below amateur. Yet you teach how to photograph items of great importance. This is so sad video... your arrogance and ignorance are unbelievable....

      @John Riddell then I should probably make a video on how to make archeology on the cheap. It will be really funny. And I am sure archeologists will be furious with me as I am with this video now. You can't do something like this "on the cheap". Give it to a professional to do the right job. And certainlly do not give advices about matters you obviously have no understanding

    • @giannhsp222
      @giannhsp222 3 роки тому

      @John Riddell When did I say that you have no understanding of this area? I am confused. Are you the one who made this video? Beacuse if you did, you certenly have no understanding of photography. The person who made this vidoe is saying that "It is NOT TRUE that you have to pay for a photographic studio! You can make one easily with 200$!!!!! She is using lights from a hardaware store!!!! And claims that is is ok! I am also a museum photographer and I have made many times small studios on a budget for museums, and I have trained archaiologists on how to take photographs and edit them. The minimum budget is 2500 - 3000€ whitch is doable for any museum. And obviously we NEVER use lights from a hardware store!!!!! She also metions many thimes thast using flash is bad. like in 5:58. She thinks that flash is compared t oharsh light. The reality is that when you learn how to properly use a flash (witch is not that dificult, you just need to stop thinking that you know everything and let a photographer show you how!) and use proper and cheap light modifiers, you can achieve a much much better result than constant lights, because you have to deal with slow shutter(whitch means danger of camera ovement), flicker, wrong white ballance, etc etc. When someone thinks that knows everything, when in reality has very poor knowledge of a subject, he/she will make mistakes, and a lot of them! And if he/she is arrogant enoygh, as I said in my first comment, he/she will thy to teach the same mistakes to other people instead of trying to fix them. It is the same if I make a video on youtube saying... well... some people say that archaiology is hard... but it is not! You just dig holes in the ground! Let me show you how it is done! What that woman is saying at the end of the video 7:42 without understanding what she is saying, is the whole point. "So you csan see that very PROFESIONAL LOOKING results are possible with with low cost equipment, minimal training and skill"!!! PROFESSIONAL LOOKING! not PROFESSIONAL! They look like they are professional! But they lack the knowledge and understanding of photography to make them professional!!! Looking professional may be enough for a new wedding / event photographer. All he/she wants is the photos to look professional. No harm done! If the client is happy, all is good! But here we are talking about historical document digitization. Just LOOKING professional is not enough. Other people in the fduture will try to study these pictures. The color needs to be accurate. The metadata need to be in a specific format. The camera needs to meet some standards like minimum megapixels. The file format needs to be RAW not JPEG!!!!! Even if JPEG LOOKS professional for you, future generations that will the to study item, will have big problems if the format is not RAW! Have you even considered thst this item that you are photographing with the work lights and the "professional look" might be stolen or destoyed in the future? And all we will have left will be a "professional looking" photography of it from a person with minimal training using two work lights from a hardware store?

    • @giannhsp222
      @giannhsp222 3 роки тому

      @John Riddell sorry about my bad English. the second paragraph "You can't do something like this "on the cheap". Give it to a professional to do the right job. And certainlly do not give advices about matters you obviously have no understanding" was referring to the person who made the video not you. I agree on 6. But I also believe that when techniques like these become the norm, and if people think that it is the same as a professional job from a photographer, no ona will want to do it correctly. THe video says: It is not nessesary to purchase expensive equipment and you need minimum training to get professional results. If it said "the results are as good as we can get with 200$ and is better thsn nothing, but of course with a professional photographer and better equipment we will have even better results, then I would had no problem.

    • @Retroscoop

      In Belgium; some government agencies responsible for historic heritage policies keeps these items available in each province: every museum or local history organisation can rent them for a certain time. The provincial services too sometimes have such equipment: when I worked for the province of Flemish Brabant, they even had a very expensive A3 scanner. Those who want the equipment have to register, tell when they need the equipment and come and get it. They have to pay an insurance, a certain amount based on the price of the item. When they bring the items back, they are checked, and when everything is OK, you get the complete sum back.
