WOW the fact you dropped mos' black on both sides reference just makes this review all the more valid. I use/love my Nikon N75 but have been eying this as an upgrade. Nice work!
The Nikon F 100 love it so much I had 4 of them at one time and used them all.
The F100 is great, I had one for around 15 years, in the same time I've had a Canon EOS 3, which I bought a couple of years before. Eventuallly the rubber on the F100's film back became very sticky, which is well known to anyone who's owned one of these for long enough, and also a problem with a lot of early Nikon DSLRs, especially the D70. More certainly the diopter became disconnected from the pin on the diopter adjustment knob inside the viewfinder, causing a shaking viewfinder view that would float in and out of focus. I manged to fix that, bought an F5, and sold the F100 afterwards. In that same time the EOS 3 has been bulletproof, not a single thing has gone wrong with it. The F100 is great, I love the feel and the build, and the use of AA batteeries, but it's not flawless. Other film camera favorites include the Canon T90, Contax Aria, and Nikon F4, I actually prefer the F4 to the F100 as well, the problem is The F4 was a pro photo journalist camera when film SLRs were still the only choice, so a lot of them have taken far more abuse than the typical F100.
Hey Jordan, I am excited for you to have a boxed F100, I have had 3, my first one i got from the original owner, I paid 150 back in 2018 or 19ish. it was in great condition and I loved it until it got stolen in 2022. I looked for another cheap one, it was sticky but in great condition other wise, until the door hooks broke. I found a beatup donnor and swapped the door. then the Metering lever on the prism broke and I coundnt' change it, the only one that snapped on was the "Matrix" setting. I swapped the door back to the other beatup one and used it for a few months until one day I found the Lock lever on the film door sitting at the bottom of my camera bag. in conclusion it was a bit brokenhearted with 2/2 being bad. I am not getting another one as I decided to go with the F5, which i got for about 450, in "excellent" condition. looks pretty mint. so far so good. it has been a good camera. hit me up if you need parts and I still have the two broken ones. I hope yours is a better one than mine. -Omar @oabofilm
I have 4. One is a parts donor for the others 😜
I just got recently the F80. A really good alternative to the F100 and a fraction of the price.
Well I’ve had the f100 sitting on my shelf for about six months because I was sidelined with an injury but saw your video and just recently was mobile again so I got up and got it. Really have to take out the manual and relearn it really from scratch. Thank you for creating the motivation. It’s one of seven vintage film bodies I have now but my latest purchase film body purchase. Have two D lenses with AF but what is the best lens to use with it? Wish me luck and take care.
What flash mode did you use for the field tested photos?
Man, someone gave me this camera when I was street shooting. He just handed it to me haha.
I had a Nikon F100 camera - I thought it was far the best 35 mm film camera at the time for the amount of money spent. A hell of a lot of camera for the money, but not exactly in the same league as the VERY best Nikon 35 mm film cameras. VALUE was the name of the game for me, and the F100 surely offered it -
Got mine years ago brand new from my local Camera Store for $749! lol at the time I thought it was a bargain.
“Because I have taste.” Says the guy who left his AirPods in,
@@JedCordwell touché, lol
Great video. I think for most people the F100 is a better choice than the F5 unless they are shooting sports. And I don't anyone is shooting sports on film. And even if they did the F100 is still perfectly capable. The staggering thing about the F100 is the price. It is one of the best film cameras ever, highly versatile, extremely robust and decent looking too. That makes the new film cameras by Rollei and Pentax seem pointless to me. They are more expensive and way less capable. Cute and vintage-looking can only take you so far. During my film days the F100 was my dream camera but could never afford one. Not into film now, but if I was, the F100 is the one.
@@bencompson thanks, and thanks for watching! yeaa, the f5 can shoot a few more fps and a few other things but imo not worth the price jump. i wholeheartedly agree with everything you said here. do you still shoot at all, and if so, what are you using these days?
@@jordanxavr Recently switched from Nikon D750 to Nikon Z7. Still shoot a little bit of film with my old Nikon FA.
It s definitely feature-packed for a reasonable price!
@@Ricardo-SW 100%. the value is unbeatable
I picked up an f100 in great condition 2 years ago and haven’t looked back. It’s an absolute workhouse and in my experience with it, allows me to focus on capturing what I want because it just works.
@@slickymcdougals my thoughts exactly. it’s such an underrated gem
Picked up a mint F100 on offerup. Battery grip and 50mm f1.8. So hyped to start shooting film
@@superplague nice! that’s a good lens, too
what's your favorite or most used 35mm film camera?
Dope!
i appreciate it bro!
You don't need a special pointy tool for the film rewind - it's the funny little plastic piece on your strap.
@@CynthiaDerrick i realized that after 🥴
Sunrise is always the better experience. Everyone can stay up until sunset, but only a few can get up for sunrise
i 100% agree. i try to go to most places at sunrise just to beat the crowds
cool video bro
thanks g!
How come when I load my film, it says “E” instead of “1”
The camera is unable to pull the roll and advance to the first frame or the film has expired.
Awesome video. Did you use flash for any of the photos or just the basic setting??
thanks for watching! i actually don’t think i used flash in any of these photos
I wish I woulda found this video a year ago. I bought my first roll of film in 20 years then and I realize now that the dude at the camera shop saw me coming lol. Sold me on all the expensive shit. All good tho
great video; it’s my first point and shoot and this was a major help, from setting up the film, learning about the automatic film rewind, to the field shots! thanks man
Excited to start trying out this camera on my outdoor travels! thanks for the in depth review.
no problem at all! it's a great camera. let me know how it goes!

honestly dehancer doesnt look like film at all. slapping the grain overtop the whole image isn't really how grain works on film. highlughts/shadows show it differently. it also looks very unnatural with a super sharp clinical image and grain overtop .
i’ll be honest, it could be the way i edited these specific images, especially in this video. i applied a bunch of different combinations in order to show the variety, and it may be a bit too heavy handed. according to dehancer’s website, they actually do apply the film grain differently to the highlights and shadows from what i understand
I JUST GOT THIS CAMERA!! I hope my photos are not blurry mine its almost new!
niice, how has it been working for you so far?
thank you!
no problem!
I see a lot of these Pentax type of cameras at the Thrift Shop I volunteer at. We sell em for about $5 to $8 each.
that's a good buy at that price. they're hard to find in LA at that price range.
that is how you say multnomah falls :) also trillium lake is amazing, but a lot of the time there will be tons of people like you said
This is so dope!!!!!!!
Did you edit those photos? Or is that straight out of camera?
Great tutorial dude thank you
