Sociological Dictionary
Приєднався 17 лис 2015
This channel is designed primarily as a help for introductory students in sociology at the University level. Each video represents an important sociological term or concept, with a video definition. Some videos are broader in scope, and many of the videos will be of the most use to students when viewed together. An effort has been made to mention these connections within the videos themselves. The title of each video represents the term it explains.

A quick video explaining what scientists mean by "hypothesis." And no, it's NOT an educated guess. Also a brief (but obvious) example of how we might use a hypothesis in a social science setting.

Deviance

A lot of ideas and thinking within sociology are centered on what maintains the social order. However, we know people don't always follow along. This is deviance. To begin understanding why people break the rules, we need to have a working definition and understanding of what exactly deviance is.

Ideal Type: a "pure" example of a social phenomenon, created by observing characteristic traits of as many cases as possible, and then combining those traits together into a definitional construct that can then be used for analysis and research. The traits used to construct the ideal type may not exist "perfectly" in reality, and rarely does an actual example fit the definition of the ideal typ...

Rationalization: the process by which society becomes more rational; meaning that ways of solving problems and approaching tasks increasingly focus on efficiency and outcomes, rather than on traditions and processes. Division of Labor - The extent to which economic tasks (jobs, work, etc.) are specialized or different one from another.
