Thanks for the tip! We figured it out in the following sessions - turns out we did the sequence wrong and built the belltower BEFORE talking to the Elder which messed everything up and locked us out of the town for a while... but we're back on track now after having done some work off-stream and in our next instalment (maybe next week?) we should be able and ready to liberate (FINALLY!!).... it's been a journey 😅

Yeah it's a nice chill game for building and exploring without fear of mobs or raids :)

Note that I made this video before EA release, based on a few hours of gameplay. If you watch my actual streamed playthrough from after release, you'll see my updated opinion on the building system. The TL;DR is: I like that recruited NPCs help out, because building the stuff manually is even more tedious than in MD.

@@GwentheShieldmaiden the constant praise of bellwright, but then not mentioning medevil dynasty’s benefits. And also the devs might abandon the game which i hope they don’t

I tried to focus more on sharing the key differences between the two games for those who don't know Bellwright and want to benchmark it against a more established game, and concluded that which one might prefer is really down to preferred playstyle. MD has less action (as of now and before their next Combat update) and is a lot more chill to play, but also has a more enjoyable settlement building/decoration element to it. I found that in MD once you max out all the tech and progression, it can get a bit stale. But I still really enjoyed it which is why I started playing Sengoku Dynasty next. Bellwright felt like it had a lot going on from the get-go, it feels like it has a lot of content from the start which makes it pretty exciting early game. But I hit a bit of a wall with the progression which made it a bit frustrating (but probably more user's fault tbf). And some parts of the settlement management and UI aren't as intuitive, but the Devs have been continuously improving on those bits since EA release so hopefully that will get better too. And it's still an EA game, so it comes with some bugs and improvements needed ofc. Overall I do think both have their merits, it really depends what you want to get out of your gaming experience, what kind of progression you enjoy, and even your mood imo :)

Yes MD does feel a bit finite once you unlocked all the technologies and stuff. I still enjoy decorating but in co-op it feels a bit limited in end game. Military buildings and bandit raids would be so cool if added to the game! I don't believe currently they do in MD, bandits only spawn in their bandit camp locations around the map

There are a lot of custom settings you can use if you want to make it harder or adjust to your liking. As I mentioned in the video, the survival element isn't the main appeal of Bellwright. It's rather more focused on combat, raids and warfare, which some people enjoy :) If everyone had the same tastes and liked the same things, the world would be a boring place don't you think? My goal for this video is to help people make a choice if they're not sure if they want to buy the game. And it seems that it did comfort you that you would probably not like this game, so that's success to me! :)

Everyone likes games for different reasons, it's all subjective anyway. I prefer exploring and doing quests rather than getting bogged down in micromanagement. That's why I don't play heavy sim games and prefer survival/crafting for example. Everyone has their own preferences 🤷🏻‍♀️

I did that myself for years, slogging forward until I couldn't anymore. @@GwentheShieldmaiden I often find people, who are not happy, will sometimes tell you that change is impossible, try to dampen your dreams. If they have to be miserable, I guess everyone else should be as well! Keep slugging forward, its nice to have friends who support you! It seems into my 40's now I have less and less people who have much time! The Shield turned out great btw, very nice!
