    • @NigelWorkman
      @NigelWorkman 2 дні тому

      Hey Rebel-thanks for stopping by! Funny you should ask, as I just placed them vertically for the first time. Keep in mind, I’m using a stereo pair, so this is Sonos' preferred orientation. Now, I’d love to tell you that I noticed a major difference in the sound signature, but I didn’t. However, you’ll be able to direct the sound to a particular listening position with much more precision, which does change the sound a bit, but it’s not a total game changer. That’s not to say there aren’t folks out there who might notice a significant difference, especially those with a more advanced listening ability-but unfortunately, I’m not that guy, lol. If you’re only planning on using one speaker, then horizontal is definitely the way to go, as this allows you to hear stereo imaging from just one speaker. Placing a single speaker vertically will switch it to a mono signal, so keep that in mind. Hope this helps, Rebel! Feel free to ask any follow-up questions you may have-I'm happy to help! Take care! ✌️🤟

    Well what do I tell my boyfriend about his $50 WiFi home internet it now acts like a iPhone hotspot where you have 100mbps to use than your network starts the throttle? Is this supposed to happen? He was also getting messages that his internet will be slower. He just bought it 2 weeks ago and now we can’t watch apps on a smart TV.

    • @NigelWorkman
      @NigelWorkman 7 днів тому

      Hello, e4TV-thanks for stopping by! It sounds like your boyfriend is experiencing data throttling. While T-Mobile’s 5G home internet is generally unlimited, the network may slow down temporarily during times of congestion, especially after heavy usage. This shouldn’t happen all the time, so I’d recommend checking your data usage in the T-Mobile app or reaching out to customer support to see if there’s anything specific affecting his account. They should be able to help get your streaming back on track! On the other hand, if the performance is consistently poor in your area, it might be worth considering a different provider that can meet your needs. The same aspect that makes this service great-using a cell tower for signal-can also be its Achilles’ heel. While this setup is typically reliable (for instance, I’ve never had an outage during storms, unlike with Cox Communications), the quality of service can vary depending on network congestion near your closest tower. I live outside of town where there aren’t many people using the network, so my service is generally excellent. However, in more densely populated areas, the experience might not be as consistent. I hope you guys are able to get it all figured out , e4! Take care ✌️🤟

      @@NigelWorkman This does thank you for the helpful tips! We called the provider and found out he has Home Wifi Lite where he will only get 100mbps per month. For the life of me why would anyone be allowed to sell a plan like this is so wrong and for $50 per month. He has to wait until the other unlimited plan is open in his area.

      @NigelWorkman 8 днів тому

      Hello, Kuemage- thanks for stopping by!! I hear you. The promise of spatial audio is exciting, but when it doesn’t deliver beyond what you’ve already got, it’s definitely frustrating. If the AirPods Max seem like a better fit, that’s a solid choice- not to mention, if you are someone who uses multiple devices in the Apple ecosystem, it’s nice having another piece that fits in seamlessly. At the end of the day, it’s about getting what works best for you. Thanks for sharing your experience! ✌️🤟

      Hello, Typhanuwu- thanks for stopping by!! Sorry to hear you've had a rough experience with T-Mobile. I just ran a Speedtest after reading your comment and got 36 ms ping, so it’s been holding up well on my end. But you’re right-because it’s a cellular service, performance can vary a lot depending on where you are and how the network is being used. That flexibility is what makes it a great deal for some, but it can also mean different results for others.

    I just bought a Sonos Play 5 Gen 1 used last year off Ebay since I thought the price was good. Wasn't expecting much - I have 2 Aiwa Exos 9s, a Bose Soundttouch Series III, and several Sony MHC-V50s and 77s etc. - I planned on testing out the Sonos Play 5 Gen 1 through a 3.5 mm input since I wasn't expecting the Wifi connectivity etc. and Older App to work. To my surprise, I was able to reset the Sonos and set it up with my router and ethernet. I say with all sincerity, the sound on this is amazing. I can't believe how such a (relatively) smaller system can produce such an astonishing sound... 😮☹🤔.... I am spending TOO MUCH TIME listening to my favorite music through this absolute beauty! Very pleasing and "sonorous" indeed! Huge Thumbs UP!!!👍👍👍

Despite all the new tech out there, he swears by it and refuses to upgrade because he loves the sound so much. Happy listening, and here’s to many more hours of enjoying your favorite tunes! On the one hand, I have a growing feeling that Apple's Silicon chip is amazing when it comes to iPhones and laptops but seems to be less efficient when applied to Desktops, on the other I'm shocked to notice the short delays between the evolution of the 'M' series for non-upgradable computers. Apple's strategy consists in attracting its community by dangling the carrot of cheaper computers at first glance, but only savvy consumers quickly realize the real cost of the iMacs and the Incurred risk of a potential M 4 launched on the market a couple of months after. Sometime I wonder wether a large majority is endocrinated....

    • @NigelWorkman
      @NigelWorkman Місяць тому

      Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts! It's great to hear different perspectives on Apple's Silicon chips and their application across various devices. You bring up an interesting point about the efficiency of the M series in desktops and Apple's strategy with frequent updates. I understand your concern about Apple's approach, which can make users feel the need to constantly upgrade to the latest model to stay current. It does seem like the rapid release cycle plays on the desire to have the newest device, even if the practical differences may not justify the upgrade for everyone. Your insights into the potential cost implications and the feeling of being "endocrinated" by the frequent updates are certainly thought-provoking. It's important for consumers to stay informed and make decisions based on their actual needs rather than marketing trends. Again, thank you for watching the video, Paul and I appreciate you taking the time to comment. Your perspective adds valuable depth to the discussion! ✌🏼🤟🏼

    Hello! Do you think that machine will handle graphic design work like indesign, photoshop and video editing?

    • @NigelWorkman
      @NigelWorkman Місяць тому

      Hello, Erlend!! It really just depends on how intense the work you are doing is. If you aren’t doing anything more complicated than what you see in my videos, I would say you are good to go. On the other hand, with the M3 equipped 15 inch air now available, I would still recommend that machine as it will most certainly last you another year minimum. At the end of the day, you just have to weight the cost of both machines while also considering the complexity of your work. You may get a decent discount if you go with the m2 version, but the decrease in performance you will see with the m2 VS m3 (albeit a small one) just may tip you towards the newest (M3) version and be done with it. Hope that helps. I realize that most of that was just me arguing both sides LOL, but it is truly difficult to recommend something to someone without knowing the specifics of what they’re doing. Take care and if you think about it, let me know what you end up going with ! ✌️🤟

To make just a general umbrella statement about this topic, though, I think this would more or less be down to the security of your home network more so than that of T-Mobile’s as long as you have the proper protections in place on your home network, I would imagine you’d be just fine. On the other hand, I don’t do anything that would require me to have any advanced level security so I’m not well-versed on the subject what I can’t say is I’ve never had any thing out of the ordinary happen during this first year with T-Mobile Pretty much just business as usual!

    Listening to this video on my new Sonos Ace headphones. Love the sound. Love the comfort. Great ANC (in my opinion). These are far more impressive for me than AirPod Max, particularly with regards to the long-term wearability. They do lack brightness as you stated. I notched up treble and actually dropped bass. Now I am quite happy. Disappointed in ecosystem compatibility (I use older Sonos soundbars) but I knew the limitations prior to purchase. The TV sound handoff would be nice but was not a show-stopper. It f that changes, I guess I can see 1 or 2 Arcs in my future.

      Hello David! First off, thanks a ton for sharing your experience- It's awesome to hear you're enjoying the sound and comfort-they really nailed it on that front, didn't they? I completely get where you're coming from with the ANC and long-term wearability. It's great to see these headphones carving out a space for themselves, especially when it comes to comfort over extended periods. The ecosystem compatibility is definitely a sticking point for a lot of folks, especially if you’re invested in older Sonos gear. It’s a bummer that it’s not as seamless as it could be. But like you said, if Sonos steps up the integration, those Arcs might be a tempting upgrade down the line. Thanks again for your thoughtful comment and for tuning into the video! Interesting, everyone else says dolby atmos contents can be played from your phone via the Sonos Ace. In apple music settings, i believe the dolby atmos has to be always on but also works with Amazon music or Tidal. Also, when watching a movie with dolby atmos support, eg. on netflix, the dolby atmos sound will be send to the headphones, as long as the source device supports dolby atmos. That is my experience. But if you watching tv, you'll need the Sonos Arc soundbar. And an iPhone/iPad. Even doing the soundbar calibration in your room requires an iOS device. This discrimination with the Android users is disgusting. Why nobody is talking about this?

You are correct about atmos being possible from the app, but in my experience that was only with the headphones plugged in (Apple device) and In my case, when it is working, it has some crackling in the background. I have already sent mine back to Sonos for a replacement unit for this reason. I think I might have the ability to go in and chop that section out- I’ll have to look into this. Either way, I appreciate you pointing this out- and hopefully I can make an adjustment to the video. I’ll definitely be testing my new pair when they arrive, just to be certain that the Shoddy atmos performance is no longer present. Thanks again for taking the time to leave such a detailed comment , Atti- I really appreciate it! ✌🏼🤟🏼

    Someone can probably educate me here, but I can’t see how Atmos can work in a headphone. I thought the point of Atmos was that it projects from multiple and directional speakers.

    • @NigelWorkman
      @NigelWorkman 2 місяці тому

      Hello, Mark thanks for stopping by! This is a great question but I’m no audio expert so I’ll explain the best I can. Dolby Atmos in headphones works by using advanced audio processing to simulate the experience of sound coming from all around you, even though you only have two speakers (one in each ear). The technology alters the timing, volume, and frequency of sounds to trick your brain into perceiving them from different directions, including from above. So, while it’s not the same as having multiple physical speakers, it’s pretty impressive how close it feels! Hope this helps! ✌🏼🤟🏼

      Hey lifeonmars- thanks for stopping by and sharing your experience! I totally agree- with a bit of tweaking they definitely sound better and I think they will even improve upon this through some kind of personalized audio tuning software within the app.. Good call on turning off the Loudness setting; I'll have to try that out. And yeah, they do remind me a bit of the Sony XM3's too (still have a pair in use haha) Appreciate the tip and thanks for watching! ✌🏼🤟🏼

      @NigelWorkman 2 місяці тому

      Hello, Scott! I must admit, I don’t use them very often. Ever since I purchased a pair of Sonos 5, the Era 300 has been collecting dust. They are great speakers, but the fact that I listen to most of my music on vinyl has me on the 5’s just about everyday- whereas the Era only gets used if we happen to watch a movie in the basement, where they are located. I would still recommend them for someone who wants a top notch multichannel music experience- But outside of that, I would lean towards the 5’s. Just my opinion though! So many different use cases. What would your primary use for them be?

      Hello, Steven-thanks for stopping by! I don't know the exact measurements of the Ace, but I can tell you that they have a similar depth to the AirPods Max. However, they are not quite as tall. When I wear the Max, there is very little contact with any portion of my ear. However, with the Ace, there is significant contact with the top or bottom of my ear, depending on how I position them. This hasn't caused me any discomfort so far, as the materials used are quite soft. However, with a long listening session, I would imagine this could cause a bit of fatigue, albeit a small amount. Hope this helps, Steven! Thanks for taking the time to comment, and I hope to see you on the next one! ✌🏼🤟🏼

    your videos are solid! I still find myself thinking why when it comes to these headphones I just can’t think of one single reason why I would buy those headphones. I feel like the closest thing to a good reason I can find is if I currently don’t have a set of headphones and I’m already buying a bunch of Sonos stuff and I see they have headphones and I’m such a big fan boy that I just say “oh I’ll get the headphones too.” I am curious though did you try them at all using TV audio as a source?

    • @NigelWorkman
      @NigelWorkman 2 місяці тому

      Hey Salvaggion! Yes, I did quite a bit of testing using TV audio as the source. As mentioned in the video, you have an audio swap option with a compatible Sonos soundbar. In my case, I was swapping with my Arc and was not very impressed with the multichannel experience. I believe this will be resolved through future updates, but if someone were to run out and purchase these with the purpose of using them for movies/TV, I feel this initial implementation of Atmos misses the mark by a large margin. Those who have experienced the AirPods Max and the spatial/Atmos audio they are capable of producing will certainly be disappointed with the Ace in this regard. Once again, I don't think these are issues that we will be talking about in a few months' time as they can be addressed through software updates, but as of now, I would recommend holding off to those that were planning to use them for movies. Thanks for stopping by, Salvaggion! I appreciate you!! ✌🏼🤟🏼

    We needed to replace a fried Att dsl router for my dad’s house. The Att dsl was pretty dismal and expensive. What a pain even to replace the router. I just walked into T-Mobile and they handed me the unit and was up 15 minutes once home. If you have decent cell coverage it’s great. I own a $2,700 Genelec 2.1 setup. It’s reference monitors for studio work. The Five has so much extra color and nonsense compared to them. No shit? Well, this is the type of knowledge actual audiophiles can give. The Five has “ear candy” that is enjoyable for about 20 minutes. That’s not bad but it’s not the level you get from professional equipment. The highs and mids are not balanced. To be specific; in Korn’s “Narcissistic Cannibal” song I can clearly hear every instrument particularly the tamborine. However with the Five I have to strain to hear it as it is a muddy mess in the highs/mids. The Five for movies is pretty good (I have a stereo pair) as the bass is present.

    • @NigelWorkman
      @NigelWorkman 2 місяці тому

      Hello, Seven- Thanks for stopping by! I appreciate the perspective of someone who works with reference monitors designed for studio use. It's important to remember, though, that the Sonos Five is aimed at a different audience and use case. While professional equipment like your Genelec setup offers unparalleled precision and clarity, the Five is designed for general home audio use, providing a more versatile and user-friendly experience. Its "ear candy" qualities are indeed intended to enhance casual listening and home entertainment. The differences you mention, like the coloration and balance, are part of what makes the Five appealing to many home users. It's about striking a balance between technical performance and enjoyable everyday listening. Your feedback is valuable, and it's great to see such detailed analysis being shared. However, it's also important to appreciate products within the context they are intended for. Thanks again for your detailed comment! ✌🏼🤟🏼

    • @viasevenvai
      @viasevenvai 2 місяці тому

      It’s such an important way to decipher what a product can do though. Why have EQ ever? It’s for preference but it’s also for speaker placement and different music. The “ear candy” is not a good thing just like candy isn’t good for you. It tastes good but you’ll be sick of it really quick. That’s also why I gave it the “20 min” rating. That’s not bad. For $1,000 I find it to be very hyped up in the mids and that ruins the pocket for each instrument. Maybe $2,000 needs to be spent to get rid of that. For a wifi category speaker with ease of use it’s good. Comparing it to studio monitors is a flattering effort as well. If you mixed music with these though it’d be a disaster.

    • @NigelWorkman
      @NigelWorkman 2 місяці тому

      @@viasevenvai I completely understand where you're coming from, Seven. Your perspective highlights a critical distinction between professional-grade studio monitors and consumer-oriented speakers like the Sonos Five. EQ and speaker placement are indeed essential for optimizing sound based on personal preference and the specific environment. The "ear candy" quality of the Five, which can be appealing for casual listening, does come at the expense of the precision needed for studio work. Your analogy to candy is apt-what's delightful in small doses may not hold up over time, especially for critical listening. For users seeking a more analytical and balanced sound, professional monitors like your Genelec setup are undoubtedly the better choice. The Sonos Five, however, serves a different market-those who prioritize ease of use, versatility, and a more engaging sound for everyday entertainment. It's a trade-off between convenience and audiophile-grade accuracy. Your input is invaluable for helping others understand these differences and making informed decisions based on their specific needs and preferences. Thank you for sharing your insights!

      Hey, Kyler-thanks for stopping by! So here's the deal: When it comes to music, whether digital or otherwise, these are going to sound great! Now, when it comes to TV/movies, they will certainly sound better than the built-in TV speakers, but you will be missing out on any sort of multichannel audio experience that you would get with an Arc or Beam and would be limited to basic stereo L/R. If you are okay with that and just need some more volume along with much better sound than the TV, go for it! If, on the other hand, you see yourself wanting that home theater experience with Dolby Atmos, etc., you might want to go a different route. Hope this helps, Kyler! If you have any other questions, throw 'em at me! ✌🏼🤟🏼
