Total Solar Eclipse
The Total Eclipse on April 8, 2024 was one of the most unforgettable experiences of my life. Watching the Sun disappear slowly as the Moon crossed over it, clouds rolling in and out, the strange orange hues just before and after totality... What an adventure.
Join me as I prepare and image that day, and share in my excitement. I promise you this, This will not be my last eclipse. I am hooked for life!

ADC (Atmospheric Dispersion Corrector) Tutorial
Переглядів 13 тис.2 роки тому
A long-overdo tutorial on how I use the ZWO Atmospheric Dispersion Corrector. ZWO Atmospheric Dispersion Corrector is used to reduce the effect of atmospheric dispersion on lunar and planetary images. Light from any star or planet that enters our atmosphere at an angle will suffer refraction effects which bend to light to a slightly steeper angle. This refraction effect makes the object appear ...
Around the Bend

#Bigbendnationalpark WARNING: Some graphic language mixed with really funny conversations. Finally, after several months, here is the mini-documentary of my Dad's first trip to the Big Bend area of Texas. On this 5 day adventure we explore Big Bend Ranch State Park, Big Bend National Park, Terlingua, Lajitas, and he finally takes in the night sky the way it was meant to be seen. I hope you enjo...
Milky Way Nightscapes in Big Bend National Park
Переглядів 5 тис.3 роки тому
#astrophotography #space Join me in Big Bend National Park as I photograph and edit basic Milky Way nightscapes. While this channel has been primarily focused on Solar System imaging with a telescope, getting out to west Texas is one of my most enjoyable and relaxing times. Big Bend National Park boasts the darkest skies in the lower 48 states where you can see more stars than you can imagine a...
Saturn Image Processing

#astrophotography #space Saturn Opposition is upon us! Saturn is the ringed jewel of our Solar System. It is a visually stunning planet and with practice can be captured in amazing detail without having to leave your house. Join me as we process some Saturn data in preparation for Saturn opposition, the point in orbit where Saturn is at its closest to Earth. I also wanted to apologize for the l...
Unexpected Maintenance on my Dobsonian
Переглядів 1,8 тис.3 роки тому
#ISS #astrophotography I haven't cleaned my Dobsonian mirror in a few years since I wasn't using it all that much. But with the Winter season coming and the knowledge of shooting planets and the International Space Station with it, I figured I could give the mirror some TLC. What I wasn't expecting was that the flocking material would fall apart during disassembly which left me with a few choic...
High Resolution Color Lunar Imaging
Переглядів 11 тис.4 роки тому
#moonphotography #lunarimaging Join me as we image the Moon in high resolution and transform the bleak grey landscape into a colorful display. By taking high resolution data up close with a planetary camera of the lunar surface of craters, mountains, and maria, the result is a sharp monochromatic image we can use as a detail (luminance) layer. By taking DSLR data and stretching the colors like ...
How to Photograph a Mineral Moon
Переглядів 58 тис.4 роки тому
Mineral Moon! What is it exactly? Looking at the Moon visually, we see it glowing intensely against the dark background of space. In reality, the Moon is quite dark and almost black in some areas. The intense light from the Sun brightens the surface so much it appears almost white from Earth. In pictures, with the right processing, we can actually bring out the colors of the minerals that compo...
How To Collimate a Dobsonian Telescope
Переглядів 3,1 тис.4 роки тому
Join me on this quick tutorial about collimating a Dobsonion/Reflecting Telescope. We will go through the steps on using a basic laser collimator and align the secondary mirror to the primary, and then the primary with the collimator. The telescope used is the Apertura AD12 dobsonian; an ABSOLUTE beast for the price. Oh, and I also imaged Mars with the dob after collimation to make sure it was ...
How to get SHARP Planets

#Astrophotography Blurry Planets? Can't really figure out why? Well, in this video maybe we can begin to narrow it down. Join me as I collimate the 11" SCT and we capture Saturn to get real time feedback of the collimation via the Cassini Division. Also, I will discuss atmospheric conditions, equipment issues, capture speed issues, and post-processing issues that might be causing your pain and ...
How To Capture Planet Animations

#Mars Mars Opposition Week is upon us, but these practices can be put towards any planetary animation. Join me as we capture Mars across the night sky and use knowledge from "The London Astronomer" to limit our capture data and create mid-frames via WinJupos. The process includes: Capturing data at regular intervals for your given equipment (Color vs mono cam will be different capture times gen...
Imaging Planets with a DSLR
Переглядів 8 тис.4 роки тому
If you are interested in imaging planets but don't have a planetary camera, then look no further. Well, you might find other videos where the creator has much better results, but at least here you get to share in the first experience I have ever had trying to shoot planets with a DSLR. A planetary camera specializes in capturing data at extremely high frame rates and is made specifically for on...

I like the style of your videos! Awesome!
I’m back here again to watch this! Whenever I’m in a reflective mode in life I love to come back to this video. It’s such a great reminder of the importance of the bonds we share with those we love, and a reminder to live life with passion. This will always been one of my favorite videos on the internet! Thank you again and again for sharing this with us all!
What sort of telescope did you use to get this great image? Mine is Celestron Nextar 8SE
Great Tutorial!
Congrats Matt, incredible job
This is always the tutorial I come back to regarding mineral moon creation . Brilliant tutorial 💯
Subbed
This is exactly what I needed. Thank you so much!
Superb!! Thx
Great video! When i shoot the iss,the solar panels on the side, they always are dimmer than the main part and when i expose the iss correctly the panels are barely visible
Can you plz share which crayford focuser did you use and where you got this .. thanks
I love your vids man, i learned a lot from you, thank you 🙏🏼
Am I the only one who’s getting Ernest P. Worrell vibes?
Pronounced "Axes" like Axsiz. Hope this helps.
Great tutorial man, glad UA-cam recommended this to me years later!
Wow…. so much to learn! Well done.😉
Subscribed! Cool video man! I'm just a beginner in astrophotography and I'm learning so much stuff. Unfortunately in my country it is cloudy last 3 weeks haha I just got my new telescope but I can not test it yet 😅 🙃
That's an Awesome catch Matt. Right on !
Nice Video Pap! Keep your pace and take your time.
I wish I could have been there with you and Farley and the ladies. Thanks for making the video brother. 2026! 2028! Let's do it.
Good to see you back on here and glad you got to see it! That was my second one, and I may have to to take a trip to see one before the 2045 eclipse coming through this way. That’s a long ass wait!
Good stuff dude!
Let's go Matt! The anticipation before these events and all the planning is what makes it such a great experience. Good vibes all around, I'm glad you managed a successful eclipse run my dude.
Wow! I love the combined time lapse videos. Great work! Congratulations!😎
Good job Matt . Your FB and Instagram pics speaks for itself 😎😎🌑🌑
Welcome back
Thank you!
Very , very nice ! First images I’ve seen using a Solar Scope . Quite the stunning view . Thanks and nice to have you posting again .
Thank you! It was a bit of a pain with clouds and alignment in Autostakkert, but the view was totally worth it ☀️🔭
Outstanding job buddy. I’m so glad I got to experience this with you. An unforgettable day for sure.
2026 here we come bro!!!!!
Congratulations Matt. I enjoyed your video immensely. We were going to drive to Hill Country but stayed in Colorado Springs because of the weather forecast. Now I wished we had gone. How did your Coronado solar scope do?
Thank ya sir! The Coronado did fairly well. I love the view visually, but I believe I may go over to Lunt one of these days.
Great video!!
Thank you!!
Always happy to see your end result brother!
Always appreciate your support brother
Nice work my friend. My wife and I watched (and imaged) in Oklahoma.
Right up the road from Mount Vernon!
Hmmm...where to start? Incredible! Thank you pouring the time, energy, thought, and passion into this. As always, AMAZING work.
I greatly appreciate that my brother 🙏🏻
Nice.
Thank you 🙏🏻
Nice to see a new video from you!
I wish I had time to do more!
10 out of 10 Camera Gymnastics Intro - Priceless
You facial video is in totally the wrong place to show the Post amendment for the pic??
New sub from Atlantic Canada! Great video, very informative
New to astrophotography............super video and very helpful............am I correct in assuming that to get images to edit for a "mineral moon" they have to be taken with a standard camera that shoots in RAW, and not a dedicated astro camera that saves the images as .fit files?
I don’t personally have experience with .FIT files, but if they are uncompressed and you can convert to TIFF, then you SHOULD be able to follow from there. But I’m just guessing.
Thanks…..was able to use ASIStudio to stack video, export to .tif and then edit in PS. Clear Skies!
This was helpfull. I'm a Newbe and wondering how insertion of the ADC affects the back-focus setup. On the C6" the back focus is 5" or 127mm beond the Visual Back. Doen't the ADC move the camera beyond that perfect focal point?
For planetary or Lunar imaging it shouldn’t matter. Assuming its a standard SCT and not the Edge HD version. Then I believe it matters due to the field flattener.
Best
Loved your videos. Subscribed your channel 🎉
Seeing you sweating makes me glad I don't live in Alabama anymore. But then I remembered that time I bought a new camera and briefly got confused into thinking it was a cooled model because the sensor was reading -10C. Nope, just that cold out here! The camera loves it, the astronomer not so much.
what app/website did you use to view what saturn looked like on the custom date??
Great
Nice video bud, I've had my c11 out a few times up here in Ohio. I've never seen raw detail like that in my scope. I have the zwo 533 now and haven't had a chance to use. I'm hoping its my bortle 4-5 seeing.
Just came back to revisit this video. This is exactly what I needed to watch tonight! Absolutely love the dynamic between you and your dad! This video is such an important reminder of what truly is important in life!
What the song in the intro?
Do you use Registax to sharpen images first before Winjupos?
Nice honest review of this process and what someone could expect of it. Thanks!
