    Does that harvester always process off the yarder? Do yall have trouble with tree lengths sliding when landing the turns very much?

    • @Local_Logger
      @Local_Logger 6 днів тому

      Not always, we’re always swapping equipment around where it’s needed most. The tree lengths it all depends on how the landing it & how steep. We’ll keep them choked if they take off and get ahold of them with the machine first if they’re too much of a hassle.

    Worked 1 summer in sw Oregon in 1974, i was 20 years old. Company was out of Roseburg... had a cat side, high lead and slack line and worked from setting chokers to chasing landing. You can get hurt or killed real fast in a lot of ways. Great experience for a young man as the expression in the woods was "Watch your ass" and has bode well for me over the years.

    I worked in the woods in the Klamath River country in the early 60's. Logs were a lot bigger then and that tower would have been right at home. We were logging all Cat shows, but there were some tower sales here and there. I grew up in NW Oregon in a small mill town. All of their logging was still done with spar trees if it was too steep for tractors. Much of that timber was from the Tillamook burns, they ran out of timber about 1958 and tore the mill down.

    • @Local_Logger
      @Local_Logger Місяць тому

      10-12 it all depends on the day, every road has had a intermediate support. We’ve been swedging damn near the whole unit.

    • @123brutalmetal
      @123brutalmetal Місяць тому

      @@Local_Logger holy shit! That’s some real production. On our best days we’re doing 5-7. Most of the wood we’re in is one long log and a short log. Also going over intermediates but shorter lines. Out of curiosity, what do you mean by swedging?

    • @Local_Logger
      @Local_Logger Місяць тому

      We have 1 guy up front and one guy just past the mid support. Each person presetting a set & when the carriage comes back it has another set of chokers on it to set while it’s at the other rigging slinger. If we have a bigger crew there will be 2 & 2. Well gut the road out the first day (everything under the lines so there’s nothing to hang up on) & then the next start logging separate to give each other a break but still keep the production up.

    How long are the lines your logging? Do yall run all 4 guylines all the time? My tmy45 is a 3 guyline machine well go out to 2200ft. Anything shorter than 1000 ft well normally run 2 guylines. Leave the middle out. But we’re thinning fed ground, tiny trees. 😂

    • @Local_Logger
      @Local_Logger Місяць тому

      2500ft of skyline. Skid roads are probably 1500ft or so currently. We do run 4 all the time yeah, if it’s a super short we may run 3. It’s all about safety & maximizing the production. That’s a lot of stress on them 2 guy lines, the middle is important. This wood we’re in isn’t all that big but 4-5 tree lengths is a decent turn, especially rolling over an intermediate support.

    • @123brutalmetal
      @123brutalmetal Місяць тому

      @@Local_Logger what by yalls standards is super short? Just curious, we end up having to do a lot of 400-500 ft stuff. Definitely two then. It all depends on the timber. I also run twisters on damn near every guyline tree which helps. And running them out really far behind the yarder. Im jealous of yalls timber! We’re normally in 5-8 tree lengths per drag, and they have 1 long log lol. I’m sure yall get some of that too
