    There is no magic pill for this issue, Panasonic definitely made mistake. The regular S5 is even better with this than later models which is so shame. I've tried everything and nothing helps good enough -hardware or software or tricks. Maybe the problem is in electronics or even in fan, I don't care. How is it possible to make such a good camera as S5iix and to failure with this? Panasonic has to resolve it. I had to return 4 S5/S5iix cameras, unfortunately. Great video with a terrible sound is unacceptable, especially if the price for that is 2k+$.

      Yes, if you’re watching from a phone, you definitely won’t notice it. On a PC, there was something visible, but after UA-cam compression, the difference might no longer be noticeable.

    • @GEXAR
      @GEXAR 21 день тому

      Hi, I would choose the GX85. The main advantages of the Sony are the larger sensor and better autofocus. In everything else, the Panasonic is better-video quality, stabilization, and the cost of lenses.

    • @GEXAR
      @GEXAR Місяць тому

      Hi, I think in such cases, you can use auto settings. I’d recommend using shutter priority mode. As for me, I usually rely on zebra and aim to record the brightest possible video. You can set the zebra to 95% and make sure there’s no zebra pattern, but also avoid underexposing, unless you’re shooting outdoors. Sometimes, you’ll have to sacrifice either shadows or highlights when the dynamic range isn’t sufficient.

    All good, but if you're creating a movie where the look is dark, say in the evening or at night, then of course the exposure on the skin will be much less than in an interview setting - how do you deal with noise then?

    • @GEXAR
      @GEXAR Місяць тому

      As far as I know, in filmmaking, scenes are often shot in well-lit conditions with tons of lights, and then the footage is darkened during post-production. I’ve been surprised a couple of times myself when I watched a dark scene in a movie and then saw the BTS, where there’s an abundance of lighting. However, if you’ve shot it incorrectly, I think the only way out is to use noise reduction-or add grain (film grain) to the video.

    • @rayafilms
      @rayafilms Місяць тому

      @@GEXAR Yes, that is definitely the case when shooting on actual film (celluloid), but I'm pretty sure much lower light levels are used on digital movie shoots - I just watched a video where they were talking about 18% IRE on skin tones, etc.

    • @GEXAR
      @GEXAR Місяць тому

      @@rayafilms I think you're right-digital cameras have changed the rules of the game. Modern cameras have a wide dynamic range, preserving a lot of details in the shadows. Plus, the dual and even triple native ISO settings make a big difference. I believe much depends on the camera's capabilities. I remember shooting with an MFT camera; we needed to create a twilight scene, so we filmed in the morning to avoid noise and then turned it into evening in post-production.

    • @rayafilms
      @rayafilms Місяць тому

      @@GEXAR Yes, it's an interesting discussion - even turning things down in post can introduce noise, so I guess it's somehow knowing how to get the optimal capture in-camera first.

    *A quick conclusion:* The result after UA-cam compression may vary, especially when viewed on a mobile device. -1 Underexposed Skin: This is the worst possible option. It results in a lot of noise, and the skin tone shifts unpredictably depending on your camera. If the lighting was poor or mixed, fixing the skin balance becomes a real challenge. 0 Proper Exposure: This is the optimal choice. There’s less noise, and the skin tone looks natural. Highlights, if any, are preserved. +1 Overexposed: This is also a good option if highlights aren’t a concern. It produces the least noise. However, the skin tones and colors can appear washed out. It’s easier to recover overexposed footage than underexposed, making this a safer option in many cases.

    On my Canon C70 when I was exposing for Clog2 I had a zebra setting set so the shot would be properly exposed if the zebra's were still on the face for example. What setting would recommend for something like this method?

    • @GEXAR
      @GEXAR 2 місяці тому

      I don't know about Canon, but here's what people recommend for the log: Zebra Level Setting: Set the zebras to about 60-70% IRE for light to medium skin tones. This is a general rule of thumb when exposing skin, ensuring it is neither too underexposed nor too overexposed. Monitor Highlights: For overall exposure and preventing clipping, especially in highlights, you might want to set a second zebra pattern at 85-90% IRE. C-Log2 has good dynamic range, but you need to ensure the highlights aren't clipped by keeping important highlight details below 90%.

    After using the Lumix 50mm S Pro, 85mm Batis, 85mm GM and 45mm Olympus Pro, I think this Lumix 85mm is a bit flat, local contrast is below average. However the size/price, aperture and colors are pretty good.

    Great video and love how compact it is. I have a question: why did you pick the S5II instead of the S5IIX? I am in the market for one and thought SSD access and the additional codecs might be useful, but would love your thoughts on it. There is also no video I could find on this so this might be an idea for another short video.

    • @GEXAR
      @GEXAR 3 місяці тому

      I had the S5 and was happy with everything except the autofocus. I know that 150 Mbps and the MOV format are enough for me. So I just don’t want to overpay for unnecessary features. I bought a second-hand S5ii for 1,200 euros, and for 400 euros, I got a DJI Air 2S. The S5iiX on the second-hand market costs 1,650 euros.....

      @@GEXAR One last question I promise!! You said before that you love bokeh, is F2.8 not bad for bokeh?? I always read to get a 1.4 or 1.8 so a little confused there. Thank you so much for all your helpful tips!

    • @GEXAR
      @GEXAR 3 місяці тому

      @@farshaxan Of course, the lower the f-stop, the more bokeh you'll have and the blurrier the background will be, but that's not always necessary. Another important parameter is the focal length, the longer it is, the more bokeh you'll get. For example, a 35mm f/1.8 and a 105mm f/4 will have different bokeh characteristics, with the 105mm providing more bokeh due to its longer focal length. The Lumix 24-105 has built-in stabilization and a more effective autofocus, making it an excellent choice for video. Personally, I like the Sigma 24-70 f/2.8. I haven't tried the 28-70 f/2.8 or the 28-105, but I've heard positive reviews about them. The Sigma 28-105 was released recently, so it's still only available in stores. Overall, the choice depends on what you plan to shoot - whether you value compactness and convenience. In any case, you can't go wrong with these lenses!

    Thanks for the explanation. I use a Lumix 5S and have several vintage lenses (Nikon, Zeiss Y/C, Canon EF). I have tried various combinations: for example, a Nikon 21mm AIS lens with K&F adapter (Nikon -L). The same lens with Nikon EF adapter together with K&F adapter (EF-L). Not working. When focusing to infinity or to an object more than 2 metres away the flip-down LCD monitor it shows it in perfect focus (I use focus peaking and magnify the image). But when shooting (high speed, closed aperture...) the resulting image is out of focus at those distances. I don't have problems with the close focus. How is it possible that the sensor information displayed on the LCD and the final file do not match in focus? Do you think your solution can work with this problem? Your solution would increase flange distance and would make impossible infinite focusing, wouldn't? And what about helicoid adapters? Could it work?

    • @GEXAR
      @GEXAR 3 місяці тому

      It seems like my solution might help. I had a similar issue with one lens where it wouldn't focus at infinity, which usually means that the distance between the lens and the sensor isn't set correctly (if the lens itself is fine). I recommend connecting an external monitor to the camera. When I was shooting with the Helios 44, it looked like the video was in focus on the camera screen (because the focus peaking was also highlighting), but in reality, it wasn't. With a monitor, you'll see this more clearly, and don't rely too much on focus peaking. Also, older lenses are often sharp only in the center, meaning if your main subject is off to the side, even if focus peaking highlights it, the result might still look out of focus.
