Question , some folks start leaders back on 1,.....some folks start leaders forward 1....which is correct ? or does it matter ?
Great question! We usually start with the follows going forwards on 1 and the leads going back as this feels most comfortable and easy to lead/follow for us, but ultimately this is a partnered dance and improvisation is key, so I would not say that is a hard and fast rule. The follow's role is to synch with their partners rhythm and direction, and they can then play within that framework by adding their own ideas and stylings... so whether the lead goes back or forwards first, the follow should still be able to get in synch. But of course whatever the lead decides to do must be clearly communicated to their follow. So essentially I don't think that it really matters - hope that helps!

I do recommend Werner Kern shoes. They make top class dance shoes for all the dance styles, they have a line dedicated to swing dances too. The company is based in Germany.
Thanks for the tip, I hadn't heard of that brand before so I took a look at their website and they have some shoes that would definitely work for Swing Dancing! I'd avoid anything with a narrow or high heel (like you might wear for Latin dance styles) as it can be a bit dangerous for Swing Dancing. But their dance sneakers look really cute and comfortable, and the low block heels look great too.
@@joyuen3649 You're welcome! The quality of the shoes is superb, superior to many brands I've tried over the years, and they make shoes for wider feet too. I have a pair of their sneakers and of Emma Comfort low-heel shoes (and some more for Latin dances :-)).

I believe the break away is part of the Charleston ...Or a move within the Charleston that can be done 2 expand into Charleston swing out
