Hello i have been following you for a time i have a question how do you stay consistent and move forward from procrastination
@bharathmenon6358 that’s one of the hardest challenges because there’s hundreds of things anyone would rather do than study. Basically, find study material that is not super boring that you somewhat find enjoyable And take away every other enjoyable distraction out of your life (like social media, friends) so that the only fun thing to do is study.
This is obviously when you are actively trying to study. once you’re done with your dedicated studies, then allow yourself to do whatever you want. I honestly feel like it frees up time if done this way.
Why read off cards?
@brianbarrett2487 for quick review of topics that are needed to be memorized and easy to forget. Not necessarily a learning tool.
Starting SGU in January. A lifelong dream! So excited and nervous! Thanks for sharing your resources! 😊
Good luck!

2025 Happy new year Muscle man. Respect bro, thanks your advice works in all fields.
Happy New Year’s to you as well 💪. Glad to hear, I intentionally tried to keep this video vague so it could be applied to not just medicine but any kind of study
@@medical_muscle_greg Agreed! bro well said.

Congratulations 🍾
Thank you 💪

Dr. Greg, what would you say is the best way to prepare for psych clinical rotation and ace the shelf exam?
For the rotation, show up early-ish, know your role as early as possible, be painfully professional, and study at least a little bit every singe day.
@ thank you Dr. Greg. Merry Christmas!
@Olamide5090 thank you, merry Christmas to you as well
Dr. Greg, have you ever considered making a video comparing how medical school subjects contrast with disciplines like math and physics? I’m currently finishing my degree in chemical engineering and planning to attend medical school. I’m really curious about how subjects like anatomy, biology, and pharmacology compare to math, physics, and computer science in terms of difficulty, study strategies, and the balance between raw intelligence vs hard work on how well you do. I understand as a doctor you have to do both, hence I thought you'd be the perfect person to ask.
Interesting question. I started as an engineer major before switching to medicine and really enjoyed physics and calculus. A straight comparison of subject to subject is probably about the same difficulty. If you were to compare the first year of med school exams to undergrad exams, it would be like taking an exam with two or three of these subjects combined together for one exam (like physics anatomy on the same exam) in terms of volume. For step 2 (last major exam before residency, about 8 hours), it would be like taking a cumulative exam on every course you took in college! The challenge of medicine is not the difficulty in the subject matter (it can sometimes be challenging and sometimes not), its the volume that makes it tough. The upside is that I enjoyed the content of medicine and all the intricacies of the human body so it was fun.
From what term ? What about uworld? What term did you start using it ?
UWorld is great, you will still use those for your bulk study. NBMEs are for self assessment. You’ll try to get them in for Step 1 and Step 2 (about 3-6). During clinical rotations in year 3, you will easily do 3-6 per specialty.
@ thank you
Hi! thanks for your videos, I'm struggling...I'm on my 4 week dedicated study period for STEP 2 CK, and I I'm very slowly reviewing the blocks, how did you review your blocks in 30 minutes approx? what exactly do I need to read?...cuz I'm lasting like 4-6 hours reading everything in uworld... Thanks man 👍🏻
Good question. You will get faster as time goes on because you start seeing the same topic being tested in different variations. Another key point is pacing. It is really easy to burn your self out. learn to just quickly read the question and move on, sometimes it’s not important to go into great detail because the material might be never tested again.
I used anki but it didn't work for me because i don't see the whole picture and I just memorize random facts i can do active recall without anki ❤
I agree. It has its place more with facts rather than big pictures. Good for like cancer markers or autoimmune markers but definitely does not work for big concepts like cardio.
@medical_muscle_greg Thanks alot for your opinion ❤️ The problem is alot of students in med school and I was one of them just copy and paste what we hear but we don't find what works for as and also many students think that the only way to do active recall by anki only !! I can read and recall the information by teaching other , record to myself, hand writing and scientifically this works best for memory retention because digital learning is not effective as when you write things with your hand ❤️ Sorry for this long massage 😂 Finally what is your opinion about what I said ?

Hi Greg, this is Justin, we have interacted a bit in the past. I am at Ross. I really like Bootcamp and have used it alot for the first four semesters of Basic Sciences. Did you ever interact with it at all?
Hey Justin! I have not, but I’ve heard of those types of courses and they help people
I AM SO INCREDIBLY GRATEFUL FOR RESOURCES LIKE THE ONE THAT YOU PROVIDE THAT HAVE INSPIRED ME TO DO THISSS!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!
That is really awesome to hear! Best of luck, huge accomplishment
GUESS WHAT!!! I JUST GOT ACCEPTED INTO JOHNS HOPKINS!
Pretty amazing! Congratulations 🎊
@@medical_muscle_greg THANK YOU MAN!!!
Hi! I've been following your videos for a while. I live in Michigan, and I would love to get into SGU's clinical center in Michigan, St Joes, for clinical rotations. How easy is it to get your preferred clinical rotation site in SGU? Thanks in advance.
If you are from there, highly likely you will go there. I got my first choice without issue and I was not even from the area. The only thing that could effect options are if you have timeline issues, like start rotations later and their spot fill up. Some hospitals only let students start certain times per year while others are more flexible.
💪😎🤘
I was 7 minutes late for my exam so now I have to do make up exam but they will penalize do you by what percentage and will it goes on my transcript please thanks
I don’t think you’d be penalized grade wise or put on your transcripts. It just depends on which exam you missed and when you were able to retake the exam. Does the delay affect your ability to proceed to the next level?
@ I’m makeing up BSCE
@@joypatel5798 If it effects timeline for taking step 1 and stating rotations, then that is a problem but not the end of the world. Just take it as a learning point to be early for every exam from now on and you should be fine.
But the email I got for make up it’s said I would be penalized a percentage of my grade after (FPAP) meets to discuss what percentage will be taken off I’m so nervous
@@joypatel5798 Well, then it is what it is. Again, it sucks but not the end of the world. 3rd year and 4th year is more important in direct specialty matching than anything else anyway. The only real issue I still see is timeline. If for some reason you are held back from the match and end up graduating, it can be a red flag for some specialties. Usually only the most competitive ones.
Which term is the hardest at SGU in your opinion thanks
@@joypatel5798 for the basic sciences, term 4 was the hardest for me. I thought the volume was pretty high and a lot more new content. Volume is higher in term 5 and technically harder exams but mostly review.
@@joypatel5798 hardest year is year 3 hands down but that’s later
What you looking to match into doc ?
@@abelsetlhoka677 hey! I’m already matched into psychiatry. Currently a resident.
@ congratulations, I used to see you around campus when I was in pre med, followed you before I even got to SGU. Full circle 🙏🏽
@ awesome man! Good luck with everything
Do you think that the residency interview has more sway than a Step 2 score? Asking for a friend who is a good interviewer and got a mediocre score…
If you got the interview, then your step two score was good enough for that program
Your such an inspiration medical muscle 🙏🏼
Greg, I know that you are too busy to respond to this, but I need you to know that your videos have been critically influential for medical students, specifically those pursuing SGU. Much gratitude to you for laying the foundations and for motivating those who you may never even meet.
It often feels like I'm speaking out to the void and not sure if this stuff is helpful or not. Glad to hear that it is. Thanks for the comment 💪
Thanks bud . Starting SGU this Jan 😅 excited
Hello is it possible to work 4-5 hrs a week on zoom during med school?
Yes, definitely. I worked through zoom about that much in the first year
Needee this now
Nah, id just screw off doing nothing at all
I was watching you and my friend said you look like a youth pastor 😭😭😭in a good way tho!
I’m not going to lie, that is a weird comment on multiple levels lol. My dad went to school to be a youth pastor. Maybe it rubbed off on me

how do u recover fast after exercising hard? so u don't feel tired when studying.
Love this comment. So yeah, being too tired from the workouts is definitely something that you don’t want to affect your day. I honestly just stopped killing and lower body and my energy was much better. Basically stopped doing deadlifts and squats.
Did more of the essentials like Nordic leg curls and pistol squat type movements (bodyweight)
Then added things in like sled pushes, weight carries and box jumps. Felt like those weren’t as tough on the nervous system.
@@medical_muscle_greg what are the healthy foods to keep Ur mind and body energetic after a workout? I think sleeping is the best thing to do after workout to recover, but u know "TIME FLIES".
@@UdayaniduWeerasekara Foods are going to be blood sugar stabilizers; fats, proteins, complex unprocessed carbs. Not saying this is what you should do but this is what I do and have done for a long time: 1. protein shake in the morning with a little bit of olive oil to help keep me full for longer. 2. Nice big lunch that has either fish or chicken with some type of vegetable and maybe so carbohydrates (farro, potatoes, quinoa, or rice). 3. Later part of the day I would eat some chocolate bar and nuts. I felt like the sugar in the later part of day helps to me push me little bit more. 4. Dinner is usually something more simple. Sometimes mixed vegetables with a sprinkle of cheese or greek yogurt with nuts and fruit.
I just imagine you talking to a literal baby.
😂 interesting observation
@@medical_muscle_greg I think I'm more used to comedy popping up on my timeline than med school motivation. Haha.

Just started my first year of med school and that intro line hit me like a train haha. I'm spending all weekend trying to catch up, especially on anatomy. I'm going to reflect on how I can maximize my study sessions during the week to get more efficient and focused. Cheers and keep the content coming!

Dr.Greg , your truly a great inspiration, love the work your doing!, hopefully after passing MSAP this upcoming November, I’ll be joining the January 2025 session with SGU. I absolutely aspire to be like you as a future provider with so much passion!!
Awesome, good luck
SECOND
Nice.
You have a great technique but honestly most people would learn the material just making the cards this way. So who are the cards useful for?
That’s just it, I encourage people to make their own cards! Helps with memory retention to put it in your own words. Although I do suggest downloading some of the premade decks for other reasons. It takes quite a long time to make these cards and the time put into making them may take away from precious review time which in the end is the most important.
I love your vibe dude. Much love from a med student
