Reflections on the Fujifilm GFX 50S mkII
Переглядів 8 тис.2 роки тому
This video is my reflection on using and owning the Fuji GFX 50S MKII, it is not a review of the camera, however, I do reflect on the positives and negatives of the camera and 35-70mm "kit" lens. Please note that at about 5:01 I mention "streetscapes" while shooting at ISO 6400 and 12,800. I meant to say "nightscapes" I apologize for any confusion.

Happy for you!
Thanks
What did you think of it ... ive seen a huge push towards OEM lately ... wonder how they compare to the others ...im looking to upgrade love the resolution of fuji and sony. Thanks for sharing your new toy...love it
Hey Bill--I've been shooting Olympus for my bird photography for a couple of years now. Prior to purchasing the 150-400 I was using the Olympus 300 f4 (equivalent to 600mm on FF). I did a lot of research before I pulled the trigger on this lens. I have no doubt that it will be an excellent lens. From what I've seen OM System has the best autofocus on the market. Thanks for watching!
PS--I'll do a review on the lens after I've used it for awhile!
@JohnColdSnap cant wait
Love this! Great Hat John.
thanks!
Where are you? Nice video
Thank you. This was filmed in Ocotlan de Morales a town in Oaxaca State, Mexico.

Nice … are you using any ps plug-ins (I.e.Nik)for processing the photos to b/w?
@@hubertcole1645 thank you. No all post processing is done in Adobe camera raw and Photoshop
Love it- incredible.

thanks for watching
Great tutorial. Thank for sharing your knowlwdge.
Thanks for watching
Beautiful video , John!!
Thanks
I was able to have a go with one of these recently and it's a great lens, but I do wish they had made it an f2.8 for better portability, something like the size of the Pana-Leica 200/2.8 for micro 4/3.
Yes--it is a beast of a lens. I wish it was a little longer--just a tad short for bird photography.
@@JohnColdSnap yes, agreed.
Thanks for the great review, John! I am in the market for purchasing a similar setup and was wondering what tripod you paired with the GXP in this video? Thanks in advance!
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. It is on an older Induro 303 XL tripod--no longer made. Benro is now marketing something similar but I'm afraid I don't know the exact model number.
@@JohnColdSnap not a problem John, thank you for the reply!
Great video
Thanks
Hi all, Izzy here! Wanted to give an update as I recently rewatched this recording and realized I misinformed about the origin of the Barred Owl! The Barred Owl is NOT a native species in the Pacific Northwest of North America. Barred Owls are native to the East Coast and only migrated westward in the late 1800s following human alterations to the landscape. They are now considered an invasive species on the West Coast as they displace native wildlife species including the threatened Northern Spotted Owl. Thanks for uploading this video John, I appreciate the opportunity to speak with you!
Thanks for the updates. This video continues to get many many views! I hope you are doing well.
PS--yes the Barred Owl invasiveness is a real threat to many native species here in the Great Plains too.
Rented twice and I agree, it is a wonderful lens, but price and focal length really killed this lens. Another 100mm might have helped, but no doubt would have pushed the price higher as well, likely nearing the $10k range. I recently picked up the 150-600 and despite the relatively slow variable aperture, I am loving this lens. Comes in at a great price point ($2k) combined with a killer focal length, I am very pleased with the results from this hunk of glass over the last year. Rumors of a 500mm f4 might be in the offing, we shall see, like the 200mm, I won't have the wallet for it. Though I might rent one on an occasion should a need arise.
Thanks for your comments. Too bad the 500 ended up being for the GFX and not the X-T system.
THX - Great info here 4SURE! ;) ...
Thanks
Northern Pygmy owls will often times will almost poop on you, just got to look up
lol! Don't look up!
Hi & thanks, John. Not sure how I'd missed the assembled wonders & marvels earlier. Altho' I'd seen many of the individual photos along the way...this video is outstanding!
THanks
John could you do this for Nikon ?? Like your knowledge and cannot afford high priced lenses .. Have Nikon Z7ii & D800 .. J5, J4, J3, many J1 mirrorless cameras .. Always looking to learn .. Thanks for educating me !!!
Thank you for following. I'm afraid I have not got much direct experience with Nikon--just through students.
awesome 4:23 rocks

Great review, think I'll pick one up. Thanks for showing all the levers etc.
Thank you
Thanks for the review! Regarding your experience with the 100-400, how are you doing with the 4.5 - 5.6 aperture? Isn't it too dark? How is it going with the bokeh?
My primary use for the 100-400 has been birds and a few landscapes. The 4.5-5.6 isn't bad for the speed on the lens but occasionally gets a little slow, resulting in high ISO's--particularly for birds, but noise reduction software fixes most problem images. The bokeh has been fine but then I'm not a bokeh fanatic either.
Hi John, I truly enjoyed your reviewing of the Fuji GFX 50sii it was heartfelt. And your images are breathtaking. And I believe you when you say the proof is in the pudding, and it was. Thank you for sharing your experience.
Thanks for watching! I appreciate your comments!
I wish I had $10k to drop on camera equipment
quick observation, I think you should try to remember not should your videos in auto white balance, color keeps changing during your whole video. just saying in case you care about it. great video, I just got this camera too and it is great.
Pablo--thank you for pointing this out. I shot this with my iPhone 11 and I don't believe that camera had the option to turn off the auto white balance. I've since upgraded to the iPhone 14 pro Max and understand it has that capability with the latest operating system. I'll be making that change. Thanks.
Manual focus, that's how we started 😃😃😃
Yeah--I know--its like driving a car with a stick shift--can I do that anymore? lol
Bravo! Muchas gracias, Amigo!!
Da nada!
great lens! Nice content as usual!
Thanks, it is nice to have for low light photography!
Hey John, just found your review on the 200mm. Like your set up with the 2 teleconverters 1.4 attached, with it we are at ~400mm, which I find is quite a number. While using the H2S one could even increase by using the Sports AF. Need to try that out. The focus limitation is due to the extension cube I assume, which is in general used for macros, isn't it?
In order for the two teleconverters to be stacked you have to have space between them, hence the extension tube, which limits the focus. I think with the addition of the 150-600 to the Fujifilm lenses that option would probably be a better route if a longer reach is needed.
And I have a video on my channel of a barred owl taking a bath in the pond!
Oh, I love this! I have seen and photographed several barred owls here in East Tennessee. Never seen another kind. But last time I was at my sister’s house, urban North Carolina, I was shocked to hear owls from the guest room! Next time I go, I will look for them. You have such beautiful pictures!!
Very informative. Im just discovering the topic of owls. I recently started hearing owls at night wooing each other. Its Dec. and I think its breeding time for long horned owls and its early Dec.

Thank you, glad you enjoyed 😊
What a wonderful presentation by Izzy. She will do very well in life, I am sure!. Great job too, John. I really enjoyed that. I live in Eastern Ontario, Canada and my favourite birds to photograph are Owls and Hawks. Picked up some great tips from this video.
Thanks Phillip--glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you Philip, glad you found this video helpful 😊
Great job John!
Gracias!
Nice body of work! Thanks for the review.
Hi, I think your points of view for camera and lens were very interesting to listen to, I also have Fujifilm GFX 50S II and kit lens 35-70 and for me it made a difference when I went from full format to medium format. Very exciting how the new gf 20-35 lens will be received and what price it will be, best regards Tormod
Yes--can't wait for the 20-35--glad they finally released it!
My gear 50r- 45mm-50mm-63mm-80mm-110mm. I just found gfx 50s ii very cheep !
Nice set up! I just bought the 20-35 and I like that perspective for landscape work.
Excelent Reflections, Thanks John
I agree with everything you said! If you know your path, it makes using this camera so much easier!
Thanks Matt--the right tool for the job. If you use the right tool it makes the job easier and you aren't trying to use a tool for something it wasn't designed for!
