    This maybe old/outdated info but these kind of packages are intended for organizations in the game. So many people in a org contribute part of the money and everyone get something from the bundle, or its all owned by the organization. Thats was how it would work. Now, the game isnt finished yet, and theres no such systems in place so that ppl can actually do as it was/is intended to. But they are selling the packages and personally i dont like this kinda thing either. Ive been a backer of the game since 2012 and for some time i felt they put alot of time, effort and money at ''extra'' stuff, such as events, streams, videos etc and its not necessary! Put that effort and money towards finishing the game instead!

    The game (when it’s working semi-properly) is highly enjoyable whether you’ve spent $45 or $45,000. Those who purchase those larger, expensive ships often have a player crew that haven’t purchased any big ships. It tends to work out for everyone. Some just want to further support the development of a game that has a lot of potential. Some fall in love with certain ships like some people fall in love with a car or a pair of shoes. The sense of ownership is what they’re looking for. Most don’t buy ships with a mindset of gaining an advantage over other players. It’s not that kind of game, at least not yet. Having said that, CIG marketing is shameless and deceptive in their practices.

    Considering how each ship has to function...... and that the time taken to produce one ship is equivalent to the time to make about any early access game on Steam.

    It's cause of these people feeding companies like this, why we don't have a modern good skill based space sim. It still sucks the last good one I enjoyed was actually made by the SC\WC people and buried inside a MMORPG called Star Wars Galaxies, and had a monthly fee attached to it, but it was the last good space sim that actually focused on skill. Completely the opposite of SC.

    Thors Event development plan reminds me of what RuneScape did. You could do the Christmas, Easter and Halloween events of that year at any time because they put portals in places. So cool of him to do.

    One thing though: You can earn most of those ships in-game, too. These packages are eiher for those who believe in the vision of Christ Roberts and want to support it or for those who want to provide those ships for their entire organisation in the future. Not saying that those prices aren't ridiculous. They sure are, but if you can earn almost all of that quite well by playing - it doesn't bother me that much.

    Been playing SC for about a year and a half now. I'll be the first to tell you I'm a Concierge, and I have no pride or shame in it. I made the decision to spend that money on a project I enjoy and support (yes project, not game). I absolutely HATE the FOMO on the store. The 890 Jump and Constellation Phoenix are both "luxury" ships that go on sale only at certain points throughout the year, and they only allow so many people to buy them before it's "out of stock." It's like you said, it's digital code, not a physical freaking item. Why does it have "limited stock?" I will continue playing and supporting Star Citizen, not gonna sugar coat it, but I do sincerely wish they'd back off on the limited ships thing when they're in game for free...

    For context and for transparency - I have backed SC, I have spent a fair amount (though not anywhere near 48k by a long ways), I don't excuse everything they do, and this isn't me White Knighting them, I am just offering my opinion and my understanding of it. As far as spending money on SC goes. It's like any entertainment, be it music, movies, video games, etc.... people can spend what they want or can afford. In the case of SC, if a person backed the game back at the initial kickstarter, that was 139 months ago. If they averaged spending $20 a month, they would have spent $2,780. At least to me, this doesn't seem unreasonable. A person would have spent at least as much if they had Netflix and went out once a month. Now to get to the $1000's spent page access. It could be viewed a few ways, but I'll just touch on a couple. One, by restricting access in this way, it somewhat prevents people from just dumping money into these packages without having used the store before. If they want to go through all the steps to make $1000 worth of purchases just to get access, that's on them. Two, take a person who as I mentioned before had averaged $20 a month on SC and has at this point spent more than the $1000. It is at this point, they probably have a long and scattered purchase history. By having access to these packages, they can take the purchases they have made, "melt" them (as the store allows), and purchase one of the now accessible packages which includes everything they already had, maybe with a couple changes, but consolidating their purchase history, so reviewing it is easier. As far as the $10,000 spent page access, this is very similar to the kind of situation that I just presented for a person, but for a Group (Guild, ORG, Corp, whatever you want to call them). Similar group structures exist in other things, so while not something that I am personally acquainted with, I could understand it as simply a way of consolidating records for easier management. All that said, i also should note that one thing that always seems to get overlooked, or at least isn't really clarified often, is that none of these packages, require "New" money. Sure, if someone wanted to spend $1000 on a package, I can't really blame CIG for taking the money. But the reality (at least to what I am aware of) is that these are packages bought with store credit from purchases that people and groups have "melted". In short, a person who has already spent $1000 over the course of eight years, just cashed all of that in to consolidate their records and bring their new total up to $1200 or whatever. But what do I know? Nothing really. That's just my two cents on it.

  • @beard747
    @beard747 День тому

    To be clear, those packages were requested by the whale backers of the game. People who have too much money and don't know how to spend it better or they just really like the game told CIG to tailor make game packs for them which include every ship available on store. You can't even see those packs if you don't spend over a $1000 on the store. You don't need to spend a penny more than the cost of starter ship package to play and enjoy the game, which costs around $45 USD. For comparison, Starfield by Bethesda costs $43 on steam, and is infinitely inferior to an still in alpha game like Star Citizen.

    you can ean almost all of these ships in game by just spending $60, its only for those who want to throw money at the game. It is sort of nuts though, and i definitely have issues with this model. I actually hate games that only release ingame content with real money though, that really is predatory. I still plan to play it [once it has more features] but i stopped spending money on it a long time ago. I agree that having it all before you start kind of steals game play from you.

    You haven't explained any of your points. Why its gross, why is it predatory? These aren't micro-transactions. These are funding kickstarter transactions that are incentivized with the ship. Explain yourself even a little please. Why is it disgusting? Why does it undermine your faith in the game? It's not a pvp game? The more money you invest, the more incentives you get.... so literally, exactly, precisely, what is your problem? This is the most honest way I've ever seen a game be funded. OF COURSE KICKSTARTER IS A BUSINESS MODEL. Do you not understand the existence of rich people in America? I barely even play the game. It seems like you're angrier that your made-up principles haven't made you rich, but the star people raised millions. You haven't even looked into the mechanics of the game to see how this matters. Complete bad faith argument from butthurt failure on your part. They've raised more money and developed a much better game than you ever can dream to, and it feels bad cuz YOU are bad. Up your own game before throwing stones at other businesspeople.

I'd love to play the proposed finished product, and I had a good time with what I did in game for a few hundred hours. But they're not getting anymore of my money. I'll fly my aurora and earn everything else. Buying the best crap off rip completely ruins all motivation to even play the game on release. I want to progress, I want to watch numbers go up. You habe a "Bits Goal", and TTS which is timed aka "out of stock" at some point, and show peoples name as ferrets on your stream, so that's not praying on FOMO? Oh, its bcs they actually wanted to support you and you give them smth back, which costs nothing for you. "Idk if this is pay-to-win, bcs i dont know if it gives you an advantage". Exactly, the game is like EVE Online, open ended, you cannot "win" with your wallet. Even more so, you can't pilot a big ship by yourself in contrast to EVE. Its like Second Life or freakin Roblox. Also the "in stock" is yeah they have concept sales which are limited, but they actually have physical goods in the store and that's just their UI. Even limited concept sales will be unlimited when the ship is actually in-game later on.

    I had no idea this exists. Can't say I really care about whales getting exploited tbh. I think it is a fair take to criticize this though, you won't see me defend CIG for having something like this... What I do know though, is that you can play the game and get access to the full product for $45. Anything more and that is entirely on the player. Will be able to get any ship in the game for in-game money. As long as that remains true, again, I don't really care how high they want to price their store shit. Thanks for calling this out though. I am a fan of the game and want to see it succeed, but the level of shill coming from some people surrounding this game is just straight unhealthy....

    The community consented to this. Why? Because the space game player-base has been neglected for so goddamn long and this is so goddamn close to what we have always wanted that so many people will shill out any price to see it happen. It's depressing, because in this current enviornment I genuinely cannot see how this project could've existed in any other way. I've put a couple hundred bucks into the game as I've seen it get closer and closer to the promise...but *man* I hate what it's taken to get even here. And the worst part is that ultimately I can't even get mad at the company for it, because I don't know how else they'd have been able to make an attempt at what basically amounts to the closest thing we're ever going to get to the unfulfilled promise of Star Wars Galaxies or Ultima Online.

    People want their bleeding edge open universe non-linear immersive unique and graphically stunning sim-games to cost no more than $40, and to be developed in less than 3 months. Oh also, gotta make sure the developers aren't stressed at all throughout the project. CIGs marketing and broken trickle release tactics are the only way extraordinary projects will get funded, because, well, yall won't wait or pay for anything without calling it a scam. You get a COD every other year, and complain that it's the same game, but that's the only price and timeline you're willing to except.

    I bout a $60 ship package in 2019. That all I will ever give them. I feel the push in the game is directed towards making the in-game money earning so arduous. That makes getting some of the large ships that now at 3.23.1 version. Some of the largest cargo ship is $18million and the ship was just about 4.9 million. They purposely increased the in-game prices because we players were making bank so fast, they weren't selling their digital trashcans. Oh, and some ships have been announced the ONLY way you get to purchase them is with real world cash. The problem with this is what you covered. A limited supply. They will only allow a certain number of people to own them. Meaning if you were rich enough to dump the money in their "game". Then those people have an advantage that NO ONE ELSE will ever have. MASIVE PAY TO WIN PROBLEM! I didn't know exactly how bad this game was when I got into it in 2019. NOW! It is obvious they have sales deadlines and will push out broken crap with things working some of the time just for a ship sales week called Invictus. This is an in-game event where people can rent a ship for free. This is to convince them to go purchase it with real cash. All it does for players like me is free rent on a ship I can use to make even more money in-game with. I gave them the going price for a game and when it is finished in say 15 more years. Maybe we will see a change in them. I don't see those egotistical millionaires changing any time at RSI and CIG. They have it started and the more people that point out this obvious ridiculous Pay to Win scam. The sooner those of us who wasted money can get it back and see the criminals get what they disserve. Prison time in a hard labor camp busting rock. 😉👍 Now the devs may not be guilty. The millionaire that started it all and those who helped him get it started. They created the pay to win scheme. I feel bad for the first investors that didn't see a playable game for years after giving over thousands of dollars. That would have made me angry.

    The high levels of purchases in Star Citizen is not about selling points. I can't imagine that someone is looking at spending 40k on the game and weighing the pros and cons to see if its worth the cost, so its a moot point. The personal viewpoint is like an investment and interest or hobby, so the money to value concept is out the window and its simply the personal choice. As with everything there are people that go way too hard into the hobby, but its not some crazy exploitative system. They dont expect someone to spend a lot of money on the game, so they dont even show the full store unless they have spent however much already.
