New project Bike - Ducati 1098 - Episode 1
A new project. A Ducati 1098 that’s not quite a barn find but a lounge room find. Without a key it’s been sitting in some guys lounge room as a piece of art. We’re going to try and get it registered and back in the road.

It’s toy run day so it’s a great opportunity to take the newly registered K1200 RS for a run. Mainly video of a few other bikes. There’s heaps of videos taken from the roadside but as I was riding it’s mainly just a very short video of some of the bikes that caught my eye. The ‘new’ bike ran fine. It’s first proper ride after 2 years of not being registered so very happy with that.

    Good looking bike. Got a lot of miles left in it. I think the valve cover and ther broken foot peg tell a little tale of wreckage. Not bad. The paint will look ok but never match. I'd leave it alone or do the whole bodywork.

    Looks like they have changed the plastic quick change fuel connectors for a straight pipe connector which is a pita when you need to remove the tank. I can see yellow fuel stains on the crank cover from previous leakage. They are a POS from the factory.

    The bleed screw on the right caliper is for pumping the fluid up to the abs pump and into the master cylinder. It's crap. I removed mine and installed speed bleeders for bleeding at the bottom. Did you bypass the abs pump with the two separate lines to the front wheel? I may have missed the connection in the vid.

    Ive got a ZF Xr6 great car. Just not as nimble as the pocket rocket XR5. If you have the know how id manual swap, get a diff cradle from a turbo and add an LSD with a 3.7 or 3.9 and you will have a lot more torque and no gesrbox worries. Later on you cpuld port the exhaust side - intake side flows really well stock. Add Pacemakers and give it a tune. Have a really nice cruiser with some cornering ability.

    Yes those tyre valves don't last. The same happened to mine when I took possession of my K1200RS in Newcastle 12 years ago- Brisan Motorcycles charged me $50 to have them replaced when i took it back to them! Interesting regarding your magnet retainers for your blinkers. A thief broke mine off when he tried to snap my steering lock. I might just try something similar for mine. Did you get those magnets from Bunnings?

    • @gregsmachines8386
      @gregsmachines8386 Рік тому

      Yep magnets are 13.5 kg cabinet latches from Bunnings. I’ve played around a bit more since the video and replaced all bolts with threaded bolts to drop the head below the surface of the magnet and also I wasn’t getting full connection between all three magnet surfaces - think of a three legged stool with one leg a bit short, it tends to rock off the level plane from the two normal legs. To resolve this I built one of the magnets up a bit and put a rubber washer under them to ensure there was a bit of movement. I took the wheel off and the guys at the local tyre shop in Scone replaced the valve for free for me. I bought my GS from Brisans and generally get good service when I’ve ordered parts but never had any bike serviced there. Maybe the cost is in the labour removing and replacing the wheel.
