How to prep the Glass Putty Demonstration
In this video, we are going to demonstrate how to prepare your glass putty and talk about how to use the glass putty appropriately.
The main thing to keep in mind when you’re using your glass putty is once you have it mixed with the hardener you’ll have about two minutes to play with it and then you wanna give it 30 minutes to completely cure before you go back to sand it. When you sand it, use your 80 grit sandpaper and it does not have to be perfectly smooth. You just want a feather out the edges and knock down most of the rough areas. We will make the repair more smooth with the finish putty.
The ratio of hardener to putty is 1 part hardener to 50 parts putty. This is the minimum ratio and you can be over on this ratio. This is not an exact science and we give you more than enough harder to activate all of your putty. We compare it to a baseball to a marble or a ping-pong ball to an M&M. We give you 1 ounce of harder and 8 to 12 ounces of total putty in your kit (depending on which kit you have). So essentially we give you at least 4 times as much hardener as you would actually need.
If you are applying multiple coats, you do not have to give it the full 30 minutes to set up before you apply the next coat. You can apply sequential coats after about 10 minutes of letting it set up. If you can touch it and the putty does not come off on your glove then you’re good to move forward with the next coat. Once you finished layering on your coats, you’ll feel it warm up. You wanna give it at least 30 minutes and make sure that the repair is no longer warm and has returned to room temperature before you move forward with sanding.
Once you are finished with sanding the glass putty you want to knock on your repair and make sure it feels strong before you move forward. This will be as strong as your repair is so be sure you are comfortable with how strong it is before you finish.

Why do they make room with the drill if they are not going to put foam what is the idea with that?
We always want to drill out the end of cracks. So in this case there were 3 cracks shooting off the damage. This cuts the crack off and makes it harder for it to continue spreading.
very useful.. thank you for sharing 🌹
My pleasure 😊
Can this be used in a fiberglass shower floor “pan”
Yes for sure!
God how I love UA-cam. Thanks for the clear tutorial and even selling the kit. I was dreading having to go into Home Depot and messing around with getting all the materials.
No problem!! Let us know if you have any questions!
I have a U shape crack - the U part has been pushed in, and I can figure out how I can pull it back up to be level with surrounding fiberglass - it's edge is binding and keeping the sunken bit from coming up.
You may not need to pull it out. If it is in the floor you could use our floor repair kit to support it underneath with the foam then the Glass Putty in the kit to fill in over the top to make it level.
@@tubrepairco Does glass putty harden up? The one I have at home already is soft and can be rolled up in my hand... will it not deform if used in the floor area when someone walks on it?
Yes the Glass Putty in our kit gets very hard once mixed with the hardener. Not sure what product you have at your home but you should consider one of our kits to make this repair. Feel free to text pictures to 417-536-7785 and we may be able to guide you better.
My tub was repaired with something that dried like a glue. He spread it in areas that are obvious and looks terrible. Can it be buffed out?
Was it like an epoxy paste? You can send us a picture to look at what you have. You can text it to 417-536-7785. It would help to see it but normally buffing something will only give it a bit more shine.
I recommend masking the drain first before you start any work. You will hit the drain with the sand paper no matter how careful you are. The more putty you put on, the more sanding you'll have to do. Building up thin coats is better than fewer thick coats.
Thanks for your input. You should be careful around the drain. You can put on a couple thick coats and sand or many thin coats and still sand. You will wait longer on set up time with many thin coats and the finish putty is not very hard to sand. Either way as long as it looks good and holds water :)
Is there a particular brand of foam you recommend using?
The foam in our kits.
Would this work on a Hot Tub??
Yes if there was a similar support system like most tubs have. If it has a subfloor that is only a reasonable depth. If it gets much more that 5” deep it could too deep to get good support.
Great kit until I got to the sprayer. Tried the second sprayer and just thinned it wayyyyy out and it worked finally
Yes those can be finicky sometimes that’s why we send you 2 sprayers, a postcard detailing how to best use the sprayer, and a troubleshooting video in case they malfunction. If both sprayers malfunction you probably have your product ratio too thick. You should trouble shoot it and try again. Tip: don’t use the paper cups to measure your product. Use the glass spray jar to measure your products like we do in the videos.
I don’t like the spray cans, that doesn’t work for me. I was out of air before the paint would come out of the tip of sprayer! Can I use the sprayer pump you have in the kit. For the money it is a buy, but I couldn’t get the sprayer down to the surface to paint the area!
You should contact us if you have trouble. Did you try to troubleshoot your sprayers?
Useless
Love this video. I like seeing the process without any fluff added.
Thanks Melinda!!
dangg not bad
Thanks!

Thanks Nick!
@@nickisneat3154 clearly you missed the point... clearly by the looks of the lump in the finish, he didn't put much effort into feathering the filler.

Photoshop repair??
Haha no it’s real. Check our reviews at TubRepairStore.com
I don’t understand the holes? What is under them?
You should watch our instructional video about this. Basically you have the shower floor, then a support board fiberglassed to the bottom of the shower floor, then the subfloor below. There can be a gap between each layer you need to look for. We drill the holes to get the foam in the gaps to add support.
So I can use this on acrylic tubs?
Yes you can. Just read our instructions and test the acetone on the surface (at the point of damage) to see if it dulls the finish before starting. If the surface gets sticky with the acetone you want to be careful where you get the acetone and reducer.
These guys are great! Just used their tub floor repair kit. It's very well put together with great instructions. I called them 3 times for guidance and they were very helpful. Their advice was worth the cost of the product alone. Saved a few grand not having to replace the shower pan that developed a hole. Thanks!
Nice!! That’s for the kind words!
Hey I just ordered the kit, and got it, and my shower floor has styrofoam directly underneath the floor, and it was like going to nothing in some areas then the bottom, so I had to use almost 1.5 cans of foam, so I will just let it set up overnight, my question is, doesnt the foam need exposure to air to set up?
The foam should have exposure to air underneath your shower through drain cut outs and walls. Give us a shout if you have any trouble.
@@tubrepairco ok 👍 its all very nice and solid after drying for a day, I’m going to proceed with the process! Thanks.
Hi. Our tub seems to be cracked underneath. U can’t see the crack in the tub but water is leaking to the ceiling from underneath the tub downstairs. What should we do in this situation? Please help. Thank you.
This may be a hairline crack that opens when it’s stepped on. Can you feel any soft spots?
No, no soft spot.
@@perpetualabenamensah5953 if the tub is cracked and leaking water you should be able to identify where it is cracked. It can be subtle but will likely be opening when it gets stepped on. To fix it you need to know where it is broken.
Not the 1% club I wanted to be a part of. Guys, if this is a known issue, to any extent, you've got to provide a better solution.
Generally if there is an issue with both sprayers we send you it is likely your coating ratio that is off. Feel free to call us if you need help we are here for you!
Do you have to have that expensive sprayer to do this or is there a less expensive option?
The kit comes with everything you need including the sprayer.

Foam is not designed to support weight
We have been doing this for 6 years and have repair 1,000s of tubs. It works.
would it be worthwhile to to lay down some painters tape down to help with some of the clean up between stages?
Honestly probably not much. The best thing you can do is hook a small 2 gallon vacuum to your sander. If you tape it off close to the repair and spray you are likely to get a hard line.
If you use masking paper it can be a pain to vacuum the dust. There are many ways to skin a cat though :)
How long does it take to dry and get ready to use the shower?
24 hours after you finish.
If you get a run use a strip of making tape6 -8 inch holding each end and dap the run gently, the excess paint will stick to the tape do not dab on the same spot on the tape. Dab then move the tape to a fresh spot on the tape.
Thanks for the input!
If it's a brand new tub the contractor would have been replacing the whole thing with a brand new tub. Nice work for what it is though.
Thanks. Saved them a ton of money and time. The house was just finished. To take it out would have taken cutting up the tub to get it out, messing up the drywall and possibly some flooring. Then the new one would not have been able to be a 1 piece fiberglass tub shower. They would have either had to do a tub and 3 wall panels or tile surround… or they could give our chip kit a shot and take an hour or so to fix it.
That last bit you sprayed on it. If you wanted to could you spray the whole tub?
We don’t recommend trying to spray a whole tub with these sprayers.
I could use this do you guys have color samples?
No our kits come with all the colors you need to match your color.
Same boat, your kit is great until the sprayer. I’ll never buy from you again, I have to go buy a good sprayer.
You should contact our customer service if you have trouble with our kits. We take good care of our customers. You can call us anytime.
What a freaking joke. Everything else in the kit is absolutely worthless when you can’t get a good finish on the repair once it is finished. It is very generous to include two Preval sprayers in the kit…..neither would spray the coating, even after additional thinning, ended up brushing so as not to totally waste the finish material.
You should call our customer service if you are having trouble with your repair. We can help address any problems you are having.
A garbage camera makes a garbage repair look great. smh
Not the camera, it’s the products.
@@tubrepairco Then use a camera that can actually show that quality. As it stands now, I can't see it.
What type of paint is to used?
It is an oil based paint.
That crack is coming back 100%
No it’s not.
@@tubrepairco it's the wrong foam
@@oscarmendieta1425no it’s not.
Which kit should I use if I want to fix holes that were left after removing a shower door on my tub walls?
Just small screw holes can be handled with the Ultimate Chip Kit. Holes much bigger than that would best be fixed with the Large Wall Repair Kit.
What do you charge for a repair like this? Thanks
$135 for the Ultimate Chip Kit at TubRepairStore.com
Thanks for the video, where can I purchase this kit?

Thanks!
Using that aerosol spray, how do you keep the paint from running?
It’s pretty easy. You just fog it on and dry it between coats. It takes 4 or 5 coats to get a good finish. If you try to spray it and cover it all at once it will drip. We explain this in the instructional video.
@@tubrepairco Yea ok. I thought that was the answer. I watched the video with no sound lol thanks
will this work on PLASTIC ?
Yes it will. You want to more careful in using the acetone as plastic breaks down a bit when acetone gets on it. If working on a plastic tub keep all of your work and color matching right near the damage so it is covered when you finish.
Do you have any tips for doing a gix like this, but on a textured floor, like a shower pan, that might not be easy to sand?
You need to sand down the texture where you will be applying repair material. You can try to replicate a texture in the finish putty but getting a good looking texture match can be difficult.
I found this video while looking for repair methods for my tub floor which had a 4"ish u shaped crack in the floor and a couple hairline cracks. I was a bit reluctant at first to purchase the kit, which seemed a bit pricey. I looked around for other solutions but couldn't find individual components that seemed comparable. I ordered the Level 3 kit. Once I got it, I was surprised at how comprehensive the kit is. Everything you need is included, down to orbital sandpaper and gloves. I spaced my repair over 2 days and it could not have gone smoother. The repair is now done and it turned out even better than I had hoped for. The repair is not visible. One caveat: I did not use the Preval sprayer as I have extensive paint spraying experience and equipment so I used an airbrush instead. I also want to mention that the amounts of materials provided were generous and I had plenty for my use. Overall I'm quite pleased I decided to go this route. Thanks for the great system.
Thanks so much for such a kind review!! So happy to hear about your experience!!

I have two holes in where the washcloth bar was in a fiberglass shower and a floor crack in another fiberglass shower, can I use one level 3 kit for all damage, just minus the foam step for the holes in the wall?
Yes you should have enough to cover it all. It would depend on the size of the floor crack. We are happy to take a look and tell you for sure. You can text pictures of all your damage to 417-536-7785 and a pro will take a look and can guide you better.
