I personally didn't read Phos's and Cinnabar's last dialog exchange being apathetic, more so one filled with disappointment. They both wanted to build one another up to achieve their desired goals, however due to their inability to speak up due to either anxiety, self doubt, or pride, neither of them obtained what they desired. I feel like it's very telling with Phos stating that Cinnabar is being used. they could have easily said something else relating that covered a much broader topic such as gem society to show an impersonal relationship like they did before with teh other gems they encounter during their invasion. But, instead, they commented on something so personal. A sentimental promise that was assumed to be long forgotten. I think it shows that Phos still very much cared for Cinnabar to even bring that up. Sure, it was in a sour tone, but it did show Phos didn't enjoy seeing Cinnabar being used in a way he was similarly used by the gems during the beginning. Cinnabar could have easily one upped Phos's comment with "So are the Lunarians with you" or some similar dig, but no. they just responded with a gentle "I know". They know this is what they never wanted to be surrounded by such fake praise and appreciation, but they can't say they tried to change that outcome. Despite so little being said, you can tell by the look of Cinnabar's demeanor that they wanted to say so, so much more. Like always, they bit their tongue and held back their emotions. The reader can only speculate on what Cinnabar wanted to say past that. I think this is Cinnabar's way of showing that they still very much care for Phos, but disappointed in what they became and vice versa.

My biggest complain is that Kazuma x Bishamon didn't become cannon. I've been obsessed with them since 2016, I got so excited in 2018 when they announced that manga is coming back, I got so much hopes and all of that was for nothing. Of course, they still have a close relationship with some intimate scenes but it still pisses me of how they didn't make them cannon... All the romantic teasing for majority of manga and anime only to gain nothing from that. Low-key same thing with Yato x Hiyori, of course, it's hinted that they became cannon at the end of the series, they even had a kiss (even if it was one-sided) but they still didn't satisfy the majority of fans because of the lack of romantic scenes after all the teasing... Overall, I'm happy with Noragami ending, but it could've been better.

the only ship i ship in houseki no kuni is probably cinnabar and phos cause theyre kinda cute- unlike some comments, i dont have a very larger analysis to give for that but i never really got most of the ships, mostly diamond x cinnabar??? i dont get how they have that much shippers??? no offense but its kinda weird to me... anyways this video was really accurate. the thing i like about cinnabar and phos is how phos kept returning after cinnabar just kept being edgy to her and just told her to stop but phos' need of a meaning in life. my theory is that phos was this into searching for a job for cinnabar because they needed a meaning for life. as for rutile and padpa, definitely a disastrously unhealthy ship. like, its so disastrous its funny how disastrous it is. a very interesting relationship dynamic indeed. dunno what to feel but ichikawa just likes spicing up things alright. overall, this video was really accurate and thats what i personally think about houseki no kuni ships. turns out i did have a large analysis on this...

My favorite shonen and one of my favorite mangas. Thanks for talking about it! I also recommend Adachitoka previous work, ALIVE: The final Evolution. Not as good in my opinion, but definitely worth reading. And you can also notice from where some of Noragami's concepts and main thematics came from.

after realisng i needed to wait a very long time until the manga was finished, i put it down for about 4 years. Finally back and finishing it all in the span in 12 hours, this series has left me quite speechless and lost for words to describe it. Im glad you were here to help me understand what this whole series is, and it gave me insight into the tragedy and the eventual peace phos is able to find by the end of it. Its so sad that phos was the one characters, that even after all his efforts, suffered the most in the end, and wasnt really given closure to all their gems. However, he never really had those friends until these last chapters. I hope i could learn a thing or two about this wonderful tale. Thank you Riza & Haruko Ichikawa <3

It wasn't a realistic ending, it was just a convenient ending, I recognize the author's health problems as a cause of this ending, but it also seems to me to be the typical bad ending of another japanese manga. I imagine that when someone talks about how realistic a story was, it's just a projection. I don't hate the ending, I just found it to be Meh.

Honestly, I just though Phos was tired of them. All their antics of betrayal, friendship, and family were just exhausting and it would be better if they weren't around. It's only after they're gone that Phos can start living for himself, rather than what he thinks he should be.

Man it was so hard to see phos suffer for so long alone for gems who couldn’t care less about them. But finally she can be happy🥹

The chapters that came after made everything better. Phos wanted to be loved, but always only received acknowledgement after giving up parts of themself. After everything they got that acknowledgement from rocks that accepted them unconditionally. And it says a lot that ordinary rocks accepted them but 'gems' held them to specific standards. Phos had to give up their longing for the Gems and their resentment for the Lunarians in order to get a better life and a better family. One that didn't give up on them even when the world was ending. That was beautiful to read

While I think it’s true that Yato has changed a lot and is being selfless for letting Hiyori go as his shinki, I think that the alternative of keeping her as a shinki would have been impossible. She had such a huge impact on Yato and Yukine that they couldn’t pretend they didn’t know her before now that her memories are wiped clean as a shinki. She would have quickly been triggered her into remembering and obsessing over her own death. Even the three blessed vessels barely survived this revelation. So it wasn’t just out of pure love that he revived her, it was also a necessity that they maintained their roles as god and human. I mean it still breaks my heart thinking about the sacrifice. That said, now she’s an adult (and not a HS freshman) who can make informed decisions for herself about getting involved with Yato and the far shore. Anyway I loved the series and finished the manga in a week. 😭

The Opening to season 2 will and forever will be the best anime opening and even one of the best songs imo. I’ve never heard a song that can hit as hard as Kyouran hey kids.

I think this really highlights how gem society and their love of Kongo is responsible for so many problems. To the audience Kongo is disarming because of how kindly he treats the gems but look below the surface and you see its all rotten to the core. The gems don't realise they are being manipulated due to Kongo's effects on the human descendants nor do they understand the restrictions he imposes upon them out of fear of humanity. Kongo is a living (are machines even alive?) contradiction he is terrified of humanity yet shapes the gems to be as human as possible. The permanent powder on phos post moon could also be seen as him clinging to the past. Even after the invasion ark the first thing phos thinks of after his battle with aechmea is rebuilding the gems. After all that has happened phos clings to the hope things will go back to the way they where that he can go back to adamant back to to the others. Phos still wants acceptance from the other gems and from kongo even if he doesn't realise it until after he prays. Phos motivating through the manga could be seen as variations get rid of the lunarians and become the ultimate hero of gem society.

It's wasBuddha's journey. Phos was the most human of the rocks and he was forced by the literal king of hell (Yama) to undergo a journey of crippling and transformation to become a new Bodhisattva so she could pray everyone into true death.
