    Also remember these numbers come from someone carrying film equipment, electronics ect. If your just hiking to do the trail, you can cut about $2k off your trail budget by avoiding towns outside a resupply, don't use lodgings, and get good equipment and take care of it. From what I've learned, $2-3k of budget can be downsized if you keep your needs and budget in line. Buying fastfood or eating out in town can get expensive. But once again this is just what I've learned watching several different hikers opinions. I'm planning an at thru hike next year, and this lady and a few others can offer great advice.

    • @AudreyAdventures
      @AudreyAdventures 12 днів тому

      @@dm3035 I don't know of any - the towns up there are pretty small. But there is always an option to hire a shuttle out if need be. Not sure what you were expecting at Granite Falls. The Troublesome Fire in 2020 destroyed that area including all of the trees. So of course that creates exposure.

    • @AudreyAdventures
      @AudreyAdventures 15 днів тому

      There were plenty of campsites in the area in much better shape than this one. What I would expect is for rangers to shut a campsite down if a site is in this bad of shape. Or give people a heads up, since you have to have a reserved campsite rather than just playing by ear where you're going to stay, and offer for them to switch if there is a better option available.

    Starts off relatively flat, then gradually starts moving up hill, then steps, then a bridge, a beautiful waterfall, then a steep hike, a steep hike up, a steep hike up, the trail turns into a stream for a mile that is a steep hike up, then another steep hike up, and then it gets hard.

    Where I live I do promote these wonderful festivals they are fun even if I’m not one of you. We used to share our Highland Games at the same time and we would share our patrons. We had some “rules” that were fun. We were there for the booze and the fun. We even had a game where a woman would try to look under our kilt. We where athletes and children were around so we wore underwear thank you. But it was funny when the unfortunate woman looked under our kilt and needed to produce a blue ribbon to us….dont ask why I will get banned. We are like you and have fun. Except my kit costs a life and we drink more than you and like to throw large objects. Bet in your social group no elf looks up your skirt. And yes I’m playing. Got a blue ribbon?

      Bahahah people always ask my age in my UA-cam video comments (unprompted - not like here where I bring it up) so I think I'm being funny by not explicitly saying it here. 😆 40 this year! Heyyyy 2021 Subaru crew!! I love mine so far!! I do miss the money in my bank account but it was worth it to feel safe on the road bahaha. Oh I'm not familiar with the Long Path - I'm gonna have to look that up! Happy Trails! :)

    Back in the day I climbed the Grand Teton a couple of times. It was so much different then. It was super easy to get a permit. You would just show up and they gave them to you. I have been to Vancouver Island and its beautiful. Not only grizzlies but no shortage of mountain lions too. It's funny back in the day we never even thought about bears and there was no such thing as bear cans. I guess I am lucky to be alive. Napal sounds amazing. I just got back from Greece, and it took me about five days to get over the jet lag and for my sleep to go back to normal. My wife had her knee replaced last week so my backpacking plans have gone on hold. I was supposed to do the Colorado Trail this year but that may have to wait. I will hit some of the AT as soon as possible. Vermont up to the Whites. Question what time does weather generally shuts the CT down because of snow? I was hoping to hike it in September to reduce my chances of thunderstorms, bugs and people. Take care and it looks like you have a great hiking season ahead. Take care

      I generally don't worry too much about the animals, but grizzlies are something I just haven't been around too much and of course they do have the ability to cause some damage! I've talked to some people who are from grizzly country and of course they say don't worry too much about it - it's normal for them - but just an animal I will have to get used to being around in the wilderness haha. But for sure gonna bring some bear spray and take precautions. I listened to this podcast episode about the "night of the grizzlies" a couple years ago about two separate deadly grizzly bear attacks in Glacier National Park a few decades ago which was terrifying but there seemed to be a lot of bad behavior in the park leading to the attacks back then. Ahhh that is a bummer about the backpacking plans being on hold but hope your wife heals quickly! Usually the CT is good through September but of course we can always get a big snowstorm in Colorado in September. I think it was last year that the southbound CDTers were having a hell of a time getting through Colorado in September because of the snow, but that's not necessarily the norm. I would just pay attention to the weather forecast while in towns and try to be finished by October 1. Generally speaking I think September would be a nice time to hike the CT. The mountains get super pretty and I bet there are fewer people on the trails.

    You Go Girl! Thanks for sharing your hiking plans. I've learned so much from you. Good that you're not solo hiking in Grizzly country. I can't wait to watch your beautiful adventures. * First BP'ing trip in two weeks, Gourd and Island Lakes IPW. We've already done Mirror and Crater Lakes twice. About every two weeks from this we have a backpacking trip. They are all 3 days. Google earth is great to create some routes but you just never know until you're there. Hopefully we can do a longer through hike next year. Thinking of the Sawtooth Loop and or North Lake-South Lake Loop. Lake Isabelle look Beautiful!!!!

      Sounds like you've got a pretty amazing summer lined up! The Sawtooth Loop is on my list too but seems like it gets usurped by something else every year haha. I'll get there eventually!

    Thanks for that update. Agree, I feel the trail is safe, the majority of the time. That being said- your advice of trusting instincts is spot on. I will be carry bear spray during my next LASH as I had too many weird encounters last go round. Also hiked with some women who carried bear spray…not really for bears. She convinced me.

      Ah that is frustrating to hear you've been having some weird encounters! I've definitely had a few. I generally carry pepper spray with me on solo hikes. I'll be getting some bear spray for grizzly country this summer though, so that may be my new go-to.

    Thanks for the update. Most people on the trail are wonderful, this man was pure evil. I have two daughters and one of them likes to hike a lot. I have her carry mace and bear spray and not for bears. I would suggest being very careful at road crossing, parking lots and any camping locations within a short walk of a road. Last summer the Green Mountain Club closed one of their shelters on Pico Mountain because of a man named Salt. He is an older but very large man who was harassing hikers, especially women. He made the shelter his home and he would take the free but into Rutland. Sadly, the club received no help with Salt so the boarded up the shelter. If you look in the Far-Out app in 2022 you will see many comments about this man. I feel bad for these two women, their friends and family. RIP

      Yes I'm the same - I carry pepper spray, but not really for the animals. Though that will change when I am carrying bear spray in grizzly country this summer. :) I agree - the most dangerous areas to camp in my mind are near roads and near towns. On the AT, I HATED camping right near roads - it would always freak me out. I hate hearing that about the shelter in Vermont. It's frustrating when law enforcement won't do anything about it (like the guy who ended up murdering someone back in 2019). Unfortunately there are bad people everywhere, but luckily the trail community is awesome for the most part.
