soldering for beginners
in this video we cover the items u will need for soldering
and the techniques i use when im soldering for my own layout
i solder to the way i was taught by a colonel in the r.e.m.e ant htese have worked perfectly well for me for over 30 years
i would recomend using a soldering station that has temprature control and a iron holder and wire cleaner the latter can be purchased as stand alone products

town scene part 2 and a detail everyone forgets to model !!!!
Former Electronics Technician US Navy: We always twisted wires. I tried an online search of the "non-twist" technique to determine its logic. I found nothing.
I've had people telling me I shouldn't do it. Well uk and us military both do it !!! Good enough for me and hopefully people will realise it's better lol
not all wagons had the tops codes applied at the same time anyway and some never did so it's good to have a few others mixed in the rake
That's good to know. Thanks 👍 I'll feel much better running them together knowing that.
Another great addition to your stock. Mighty fine wagons you have there. Colin.
Yes they do look good. I would of liked more but couldn't justify it. Plus I've got some other wagons on order too from accurascale and I think there due fairly soon.
Hi Daniel. Wow the civil engineering coach is fantastic. Detail is absolutely superb. Love the pannier tank. Again beautiful detail. You certainly got some great presents. Thank you for sharing Daniel. Thumbs up thumped 👍 .... Pete....
Thanks. I can't wait to get all the heritage line running and have the pannier doing its thing should be finished this year hopefully..ive just not had as much time as I'd of liked to work on the railway recently
Amazing coach Daniel, And a gorgeous loco as well. Great choice, lovely additions all round, ATB Stuart
Thanks Stuart 👍
Lovely coach to run with the Bachmann track assessment pair
Yes definitely I'm just glad accurascale are filling the gap in the market for this type of stock. Let's hope they do more
Hi, I have this same model on order, hopefully it will arrive this week if I’m lucky, many thanks for sharing.
You won't be disappointed it's a fantastic model
That Mk2 coach from Accurascale in Dutch livery looks superb! 👍 Colin.
Yes i agree 👍 let's hope accurascale keep on producing lots or rtc and engineering stock. There's a surprising amount of us that want that type either running around or sat in sidings
Hi Stockton Junction, I Am NEW To Your Channel & I Love Your Channel..! A Reelation Has Brought Me Some Of Your Telegraph Poles From You For My Diaroma As A Gift...! And I Must Say I Am Very IMPRESSED With The DETAIL Of Your Product....! & They Really Look Realistic Too...! & Are Excellent Quality As Well...! I Have 2 Questions I Would Like To Ask If I May ? : Q1 = What Size Drill Bit Would You Advise ( Or Recommend ) To Drill The Hole.!, So That Telegraph Poles Bottom Can Be Slotted Into My Pavement Sections On My Street Scene...? & My Second Question Is : Q2 = Can I Paint The Telegraph Poles, Just Using Acrylic Paint ..? The Reason Why I Am Asking, Is That I Am Just Starting To Build My Street Scene On My Diaroma....! Once Again Excellent Product..!, Really Realistic..!,, Excellent Quality...! I Will Be Looking Forward To Reply....! Thanks
Hi thanks. I honestly don't know what size drill bit. I just used one that was only very slightly larger than the base of the pole. I can have a look tomorrow to see if I can work out a definitive size. Yes i used acrylic paints on mine. With no primer
@stocktonjunction If You Can Work Out Tomorrow The Drill Size Bit For Me Please ,It Would Be GREATLY APPRECIATED..! Once Again What A Great Product,You Have You Have Produced, I Love Them..!, I Will Definitely Be Keeping A Eye Out For Anymore Of Your Future Products That You May Produce...! Thanks Steve
Please do some soldering videos .. thanks
No problem I had planned too just keep forgetting. But will do one soon 👍
I've just got the same hst mate. what CV settings did you use......my hst is very slow. also did you give both power car chips the same address. cheers nark
Try setting vmid to 90, and yes you will same address but the dummy reversed so the lighting works
Hi I did not change any cvs but I did program both cars at same time on the programming track
@@stocktonjunction cheers mate I've sorted it now just needed cbb 2 4 5 changing and it's alot better.
@ that is not a good idea, never try programming more than one decoder at a time on the programming track, you can potentially brick the decoder.
@MusiGig it's perfectly fine to do especially as one is a dummy so no issues with cv29. On my apt 370 it has 3 decoders and it happily did all 3 at same time with no issues whatsoever. I will note that in those instances I used matched decoders I certainly wouldn't try it with different brand decoders.
Your weathered unit looks fantastic.
Thanks 👍
Those look really realistic, what is the cost per unit ? I wish to have one on my layout one-day.
They are around £76 at rails
@stocktonjunction that's not that unrealistic in terms of rands.
Great looking cranes. Shame they are static units. It's also a shame that the weathering is not done as yours looks excellent. I recently did a couple of videos on Hornby, Hornby Dublo and Tri-ang break down cranes if you are interested. There is definitely something of interest in the engineering trains. Happy modelling. Mon
Thanks. Ill have a look at it 👍
Very nice I did get one myself. long over due seeing some new P way equipment in 00
Totally agree let's hope hey realise that there wanted aswell as many other pw stock... These were originally a hattons design they released them as a register interest and pre order.. They decided not to get them made as they didn't think there was enough interest and cancelled them.. I expect these cranes will sell out pretty soon if they haven't already They are a great model at a fairly reasonable price considering the sheer amount of detail on them...
They do look Amazing when weathered. I have just received one, so I may go down that line. You have dine a superb job. ATB Stuart
Thanks Stuart. 👍 I think you will be glad u did. It really brings out all the details and makes them so much more realistic Regards Daniel
great vlog on channel nice crane thanks for share
Thanks lee 👍
Hi, happy new year to you and your family, very nice cranes for the collection, it’s such a shame they are non functional for the price, not sure how long they will be produced for but lighting or being self propelled would have been a great addition to a very well detailed model, thanks for sharing.
Thanks and happy new year to you too. Let's hope they see these comments lol they may consider it. I'm sure a modeller with some modification skills may do a light upgrade. I'm sure that it must be possible although looking at thr model the parts where u could possibly fit some electrics are stuck down and not a screw in sight so it might be hard to get it apart without breaking anything. Personally I'm happy with it as is. And I think it will look great on the end of a engineering ballast or similar train as if it's heading off with it to where the work is being done.. I will be having one as scenic in my permanent way depot in thr future once I get to building it
looks brilliant
Thanks 👍
I like to see an allotment as it adds loads of little details
I'm trying to add as much detail as I can around the layout. Always something to see no matter where you look
@stocktonjunction I am tempted. It's a real shame you failed to record the best bit.
Yeah I don't know what happened as I pressed record....
Fantastic use of space
Thanks I needed to find something perfect for the narrow area and it worked well
@stocktonjunction it's great to see how you use the space and how others use the space..gives everyone ideas to adapt there's..
great vid nice work on layout keep up the great vid on channel thanks lee
Cheers Lee 👍
I have the Intercity livery model ordered and looking forward to it;s arrival, Cheers Kev
I do like that livery but although it fits my era it doesn't fit my running location, although I suppose it's entirely possible that livery could of run replacing a breakdown or something 🤔
Can you grow sea foam indoors?
I don't think so
The Bachmann Cl 31 version has the door handles in the correct position, Accuruscales are not.
That's interesting I did not notice that. Could u explain how there in the wrong position. Ie too high too low etc. I don't have a bachmann 31 to compare
They are not wrong they are just not in the normal position, as far as I recall they sprung to the horizontal position when closed properly, these are neither shut or open lol
@ModelRailwaysUnlimited ah I see now. Yes your right and I will contact accurascale about that as they are most certainly incorrectly positioned Thanks for the info 👍
Who cares 😂
Thinking far more about this than I should lol it might simply be that when scanned the real loco had worn springs allowing the handles to droop slightly, that did indeed happen, so perhaps it's entirely accurate
Great and honest video showcasing various problems. As a novice and only just purchased the Hornby select dcc controller if I'm not bothered about the lights would i just need one decorder in the power car?
Yes it will run with just one decoder in the power car. The newer version of the apt has a 21 pin decoder and seems to have fixed some of the issues so I would make sure u get the 21pin version not 8 pin socket one
@@stocktonjunction ok. Thanks for the reply and the info. Appreciate it.
@chrisseed4643 your welcome 👍
Looks like a great model. I’ve ordered 31128 though sadly I only have a dc layout so won’t be able to experience the great sounds that come with the DCC version
@@cornishrailproductions I'm sure u will still enjoy it anyway they are great models. I just hope the class 50s are as good as I've got 3 coming !!!
Would like to see more of your layout. Is it based on Stockton ?
@neilbarron858 thanks I will show more in future there's not a lot of scenics in place yet. No it's not based on Stockton. The name comes from a relation named after my grandad it's a fictional station I decided to base it on the London Exeter line in nse br era as I will later on have station announcements I'm going to sort of fit it in the middle somewhere.
Hi, I like your permanent way rake of coaches, I have the coaches and the newly tooled triple grey class 20 with the Plux22 decoder socket, I do like the Accurascale tool van but I’m not a fan of the weathered look so I gave it a miss.
Mine is the older bachmann class 20 without any lights but I do like it so not too bothered. Not seen the new tooled one yet
Hi, very good honest review of a superb loco, it’s a shame when you get your model and it’s not quite 100%, the good thing about Accurascale is that they will sort out any issues you have, I’ve had issues with a few models a while ago, I contacted them and they sorted them as soon as they could which was great, I had issues with a few Hornby products a few years ago, they didn’t give a shit! I don’t buy their products anymore because of their poor attitude, this loco is superb and the ultra detailing is on another level, I’m so happy they’ve incorporated a motorised roof fan at last, Bachmann want mad money for that feature on their class 31 loco, the dashboard lighting is a very cool touch, I have a Network rail yellow livery model on order, I hope I receive mine before world war 3 breaks out, the APT was so underdeveloped and rushed out to the shops with many issues, as usual Hornby abandoned their customers and then sorted the 3rd run out, because they knew they had cut corners, the RMweb forum has covered all the issues and fixes for what should have been a gem of a loco pack. I might have a look into the Legomanbiffo sound file for my class 31, many thanks for sharing.
There 37s Boxes are like that also.... the start up sounds like a 37
I think there great but also a bit space consuming but I guess protecting them is the most important thing. It was so unexpected to me I just assumed it would be similar size to other manufacturers. Although suttons are an excellent one to my 24 came in a great metal tin !!!
@@stocktonjunction Having my stuff sent out to Australia I love these boxes. Not had any damaged as yet.
Love that ultra weathered class 37
Thanks me too 🙂
I planted my seed but not doing well like your but I'm gonna planted new batch again spring time here at new zealand
Mine didn't do well this year either I think yhe weather was so out of wack and all over the place it completely messed it up
Your magnets are mounted too high on the chassis - for steam locos, we make hanging brackets to take the magnets closer to the railhead to make them even more effective :-) Reach out if you need support! ^RB @DCCconcepts
Many thanks. I know I need to adjust them as the magnets are catching and stopping the train over points too
Hey mate. I just ordered this wagon today. Does it need batteries? Cheers, Jason. By the way, what make are the other tool vans?
It runs from track power I think 1 is hornby others are bachmann and modelzone (bachmann)
@@stocktonjunction thanks mate. I only asked as the last lit Accurascale wagon I got (nuclear flask) needed batteries and a wand. I love Accurascale, but they really should standardise thier Lighting system. I’ve got the lit Bachman DBSO MK2 and it’s literally got a simple on off switch underneath.
@@StarWarsJay I will have a check and let u know for definite 👍
@StarWarsJay the coach has track pickups. I think the reason the wagons use a battery is that there isn't enough room for a capacitor hence why the battery system in wagons. My other rtc coaches have same track system
@@stocktonjunction thanks mate. I won’t order any batteries then 😁. Cheers for your time.
Nice one Hopefully mine will be here after the Gets show
Hopefully. I'm sure u will be happy with it..
Hi were did the motor bikes they look great
If u mean the big rossi bike it was a de agostini kit. Very expensive but amazing and I'm a big rossi fan. Go 46 !!!
Hi, great review of a cool looking coach, unfortunately I’m not a fan of the weathered look, that doesn’t take away the fact that this is a great coach, Accurascale should have produced a pristine finish unit as well, this is the second yellow livery coach with factory fitted lighting you could by, the Bachmann DBSO coach was the other a few years ago which is a superb model, Accurascale should look into better systems than the magnetic wand to operate their lighting, I wonder if Accurascale will ever produce a crane, thanks for sharing.
I certainly hope they do produce a crane as there are some great steam engined ones available but my period would be diesel powered cranes more like the hornby version which is a tad un detailed for my liking but I do have one that I plan on improving slightly
@@stocktonjunction Hornby’s crane is 45 plus years old and their other crane is an ex Lima model from the late 80’s that currently resides in the Railroad range, it’s a shame there isn’t any decent cranes available these days, Roco produce some incredible cranes but they come at a premium price, I’m sure we will see a great diesel powered crane in the future at some stage.
Yes I also have one of the lima ones. Picked it up on ebay a while back it's quite weathered (I know u don't like that lol) and I think it makes it look less plastic and just slightly more realistic I've got some bearings to go in the hornby one so I can put metal wheels on it when I get time to do it. Many more important jobs on the layout to do first saving the cosmetic and mod jobs for later on
I’m glad you said you are not to happy with the WWS static grass applicator. Everyone raves about them but I struggled with mine to get it to do as I wanted. I done everything right. Sometimes it worked well. Other times it didn’t. I am going to try the noch one next I think.
Indeed mine doesn't work well often the grass gets hardly any charge and doesn't stand up and is very slow to lay grass with it. My home made one is great 👍 will do test on the cheap one soon and see if it's any good
@@stocktonjunction awesome. Be interesting to see the outcome. Thank you
its coming along nicely, like the new rolling stock, keep it up
Many thanks. I can't wait to get more scenic stuff done so it starts to actually look like a railway
Cool
Thanks

Thanks I'm certainly pleased with it
Wow, lovely new additions, Superb collection of 50s, 👍🏻👍🏻ATB Stuart
Thanks. I do love my class 50s !!! Although I'd never had any class 37's and a while back I got a bachmann one and I've come to love the amazing traction they have and have about 5 of them now too. I need some more class 33's as I only have 2 and in desperate need of a few class 31's. I've got one of the new accurascale class 31's coming soon Thanks for your comment Regards Daniel
Excellent, i use these in some of my buildings and to light up my station canopies, 👍🏻
That's a good idea for the canopies i would have to use the warm white for those
I have a dimmer Switch/Wheel, Works a treat. Mine are warm white, Engine sheds and the Church.
@@StMaryChurchModelRailway that's a great idea 💡 👍
I try and stick them down to a bit of Ali angle section, being angle it keeps it straight, the glue doesn't come off as it never gets too hot thanks to the heatsinking from the Aluminium, a bit of 25mm angle would be prefect for this application, comes in 6m lengths from the actual suppliers ;-)
Good info thanks
LEDs look a treat. ideal for lighting up the fiddle. thanks for sharing. cheer's Tony.
Your welcome and cheap too always a bonus
I appreciate that this is a 3 year old video and the shed is now completed, but I was wondering why you didn't set a level of bricks or blocks on the concreted ground pads where you've used timber supporting ground posts instead? Any timber touching the ground directly, including if partly buried in concrete in the ground, will get damp and slowly begin to rot over the years, even if it's treated wood. This is why concreted wooden fence posts never last, rot and break after about 10 - 20 years. I have built many sheds and decking platforms and found it best to set blocks or bricks in the ground on small but deep (about 24 - 36 inches) concrete foundations, making sure they are all set level with each other a few inches above the highest ground point. This is then used to rest the shed floor framework upon. CRITICALLY, between the framework and brick/block ground supports you place a piece of damp proof course plastic (cut off a DPC roll) which stops the ground's moisture/damp rising up into the wooden framework, floor, walls and so on. This eliminates the prospect of constant damp wood and it's associated rotting. Worth noting for any future projects! Anyway, I enjoy the channel, you've done some really great work there on the layout. Regards Julian
Many thanks for sharing very usefull info. Hopefully if anyone has a go at something similar they will see this first
nice lighting four the layout the will look good on the layout good work thanks for the share on channel thanks lee
