Made New
Acts 9:1-22
As the new year begins, many of us reflect on who we are and who
we want to become. True transformation begins with asking, 'Who
does God say I am? The world around us constantly tries to answer
it for us - friends, family, social media, and culture all offer
competing definitions. None of these voices can truly define who
you truly are. The poet Charles Bukowski once asked, 'Can you
remember who you were before the world told you who you are?'
His question invites us to reflect on our identity beyond worldly
influences. As Christians, the answer lies not in reclaiming who we
once were but in discovering who God is making us to be through
His grace.
One of the most powerful examples of God’s transforming grace is
found in the life of Saul. In Acts 9, we meet Saul as a man filled
with anger and hatred toward Christians. He believed he was on
the right path, convinced his actions were righteous. But God had a
different plan. Saul’s encounter with Jesus on the road to
Damascus changed everything. He went from persecuting
Christians to proclaiming Christ. Saul didn’t seek out
transformation - God sought him.
Sometimes we’re too consumed with our own plans to see God at
work in our lives. Saul’s story reminds us that transformation
happens when we encounter Jesus. As Paul later wrote in 2
Corinthians 5:17, “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The
old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”
Like Saul, we’ve all made mistakes. We’ve all fallen short. Our past
doesn’t define us - God’s grace does. When we surrender to Him,
He can transform our lives in ways we never thought were
possible. Our transformation journey begins with giving our lives
fully over to Jesus.
As you begin this new year, take time to reflect on your own
relationship with Jesus. Are you letting God define your identity, or
are you still listening to the world? Surrender your plans and your
life to Him, and let His transforming power make you new.
Discussion Questions:
1. What voices tend to shape how you see yourself (e.g., culture,
family, past experiences)? How can we tune out the world’s voices
and listen to God’s voice?
2. What parts of your old life are hardest to let go of? Why?
3. How has God’s grace shown up in your life, even when you
weren’t looking for it?

The God of the Impossible

If you could do something impossible, what would it be? “God is looking for those with whom He can do the impossible - what a pity that we plan only the things that we can do by ourselves.” - AW Tozer “Our faith is not really tested until God asks us to bear what seems unbearable, do what seems unreasonable, and expect what seems impossible.” - Warren W. Wiersbe “If God is your partner, make yo...

Our Most Precious Possession John 3:16 Christmas is a season when we think about giving gifts. What is the most thoughtful gift you have ever received? What is the most precious, most valuable gift you currently possess? Gift giving is certainly at the heart of Christmas. Christianity itself is all about receiving and giving. God is the giver of every good and perfect gift (James 1:17). Jesus i...

In John 1:10, John wrote, “He (Jesus) was in the world, and the world was made through Him, yet the world did not know Him.” Meaning that Jesus, the Creator of the world, came to earth as a human but He was not recognized by people as the Divine Creator. Jesus was born into the world He made, and countless people missed the miracle of His birth. The Man Who Missed Christmas by J. Edgar Park - G...

It’s a Wonderful Life Ephesians 2:1-13 The film “It’s a Wonderful Life” debuted in 1946 and is a holiday classic. The story is about a troubled man named George Bailey who is rescued by an angel named Clarence. To earn his wings, Clarence shows George how terrible things would be in Bedford Falls if he had never been born. Clarence has some of the best lines in the movie and my favorite line is...

1 Be Joyful “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice!” Philippians 4:4 Wherever Jesus went He brought joy. When Jesus was born, the shepherds were promised that He would bring joy. We have a song that we sing during the Christmas season, “Joy to the world, the Lord is come.” The song is based on Luke 2:10-11: “And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good new...

Never Forget This … Ever! Deuteronomy 8:7-18 Thanksgiving is not just a national holiday. Thanksgiving is a lifestyle and mindset we should wake up with every day. We must go from being people who occasionally remember to give thanks to becoming genuinely grateful people. In Deuteronomy 8 Moses delivers some of his last words to God’s people. He tells them (and us) how to move forward in life i...
Stop Waiting For Thanksgiving - Colossians 3:12-17 - 11/17/24

Stop Waiting for Thanksgiving Colossians 3:12-17 I love 1 Chronicles 16:34: “Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.” The Bible mentions "thanks" or "thanksgiving" 72 times, and the word "gratitude" 157 times. God places a great deal of importance on being thankful, and it's one of the few things that the Bible says is God's will for people: “Give thanks in all circum...

1 “We Are Now Children of God” (1 John 3:1-2) Christians find their identity in Christ. God is unchanging. He is reliable. He is the same yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13:8). If you find your identity in Him, ultimately, you will never be disappointed. My identity is found in Him. He is my Father, and I am His child. Demonstration - “See how great a love the Father has given us, that we...

Overcoming Fear 10/20/2024

Overcoming Fear Deuteronomy 1:19-21 The Bible doesn't paint the picture of God's people living without fear. There is no such thing. Some fear is healthy, and some fear is not. God created fear so that we would have sudden bursts of energy and strength and speed during times of emergency. But when fear becomes a permanent condition, it can paralyze your spirit and penalize your life. In fact, i...
