We agreed not to share the number of the LP12-50 pror to making the video. We have made a number of LP12-50s and the serial numbers have not been sequential. i.e. some customers chose numbers significant to them....

They certainly had the 360 PWAB speaker in mind - but I think are targeting people using non-Linn speakers. These are amps that are designed to stand by themselves as products to be considered in high end systems - not just Linn systems. They are cool running and have the ability to drive any given speaker optimally. The Majik Isobarik is a 4 ways speaker so you need 8 channels to drive this speaker Aktiv. The Selekt DSM is capable of 6-channels (3 x Power Out or 3 x Line Out cartridges and 3 x sterao DACs). For your system the best upgrade would be to replace the Akuarte System hub with a Selekt DSM Classic or Edition System Hub and continue to use the ExaktBox-I. The Selekt can take upto 3 2 channel power amp cartridges, each cartridge accepts a DAC module. See around 2min mark in the video... The whole purpose of multiple cartridges is designed to offer active (AKTIV) operation.

The Selekt DSM has a single Arc input that can be expanded with an additional HDMI module that give 4 inputs and 1 output - see ripcaster.co.uk/Linn_HDMI_upgrade_for_Selekt_DSM Your existing Decoder from the Akurate DSM will work in this module. The Sub out ports are dedicated to low frequency only. You can fit a Power out cartridge and a Line Out Cartridge in the same unit. There is always the SPDIF 1 that can be configures as a digital output.

The Selekt DSM Edition is functionally identical - all the same inputs and outputs, and uses the same cartridges, and uses the same choice of DAC modules. The Selekt DSM Edition is a superior case design and materials (mirrored glass front etc). The Edition case is made out of milled and jointed aluminium plates. This gives the Edition better mechanical isolation and electronic interference shielding. Hence the Selekt DSM Edition still outperforms the Selekt DSM Classic - but the performance gap between them is closer than before.

I would expect the 119 to be a very good upgrade from your trusty Katans. You are welcome to vist ripcaster to see and hear the 119. You can bring your Katans for an A/B comparison.

Glad it helped getting your data back. Good tip about the drives powerdown. Sounds like you may be working on a laptop - so you need to make sure power management doesn't get in the way...

Yes. The 150s and 119 are step change from the Majik speakers. They are especially impressive when driven in Active (Aktiv) configuration using multiple cartridges in a Selekt DSM or an ExaktBox.

Yes - you need to get your LP12 out again (and treat it to a service). Linn have produced the LP12 for over 50 years. Linn have also made integrated speakers for at least 20 years and the 360 is the latest and highest performing speaker they have every made. Typical systems include a pair of 360 fully integrated speakers, a Klimax system hub and a Klimax LP12 turntable.

Hello John, I'd recommend a service as a first step and get the deck checked over. Assuming everything is working I'd be inclined to keep it all original (although a new bearing would be a very good upgrade and not alter the external appearance). You can do the upgrades step by step. The exact order depends on your existing LP12 - but we would generally recommend the following order: Karousel bearing, Kore sub-chassis, Lingo IV motor/speed control, tonearm and cartridge (assuming your current cartridge is in good condition)... The default mode is the complete CD - but individual tracks can be selected.

The App or the physical controls/dial on the device are your control options.

The new plinth will be available generally once Linn delivers the final 50th anniversary turntable.

@@joerama The LP12-50 is an exclusive limited edition of 250. I don't expect any of the components to become available as upgrades to standard LP12. I do expect lessons to be learned from the LP12-50 into new components for the standard LP12. I also expect Linn to update the plinth options available in the future. I won't be 'Bedrok" (too difficult to mass produce) - but possibly an evolution of that materail/construction.

That’s what the dealers are for and, as you suggest, that’s also why Linn dealers are a rarefied breed (like Ripcaster). Thanks to ripcaster for lifting the curtain on what happens between showroom delivery and customer delivery. As you might guess, Linn has very few dealers since very few could be entrusted with such TLC for the final mile.

Yes - you can use any of the Exaktboxes with a DSM: Klimax ExaktBox, Akurate ExaktBox-6, Akurate ExaktBox-10, ExaktBox-Sub. That’s great news. I’ll likely try to secure an exaktbox-10 along with a second A4200 and an A2200 to drive my pair of 5 channel A242 speakers. The prices in the used market are quite attractive atm for akurate gear. Please Let me know if any do’s or don’t with that plan.

@@josephbennett5384 Hi, You are right that Akurate equipment is very good value/performance now. Akurate 242 fully Aktiv with Exakt are fantastic. Try and get Akurate ExaktBoxe-10 with Katalyst DAC as there are no upgrades currently available for the standard version.
