I have now got the opportunity to start uploading some of my Archive Video's from trips out in the Mid 90's Please bear in mind the footage is nearly 30 years old now and has been transferred from 8mm to VHS and then onto DVD however the sound quality is pretty good.
So join me on a Nostalgic trip back to the Railway as it was some 25 years ago which has changed radically from what we see today

A Feast of MGRs at Hatfield, Barnetby and Knottingley (and lots more besides!!)
Coal was still king 20 years ago as these scenes prove. Our first stop is Hatfield & Stainforth where Binliners and MGRs are viewed. Look out for quite a Grid departure with 56115 6 mins in!! Next we call in at Barnetby with action through to the late evening plus a Bonus visit to Barnetby East 'Box, just a shame i did not do more filming!! Tagged on the end is 8 mins of action at Knottingley with several rake of National Power hoppers passing the station

Carlisle at Night - October 2001 - The Flaming Chopper!!

What seemed like a run of the mill night filming trains at Carlisle ended with the Fire Brigade being called to an incident involving 4 Class 20's on the 6C46 Flasks from Sellafield to Kingmoor Yard. Other traffic seen includes plenty of Sheds on HAAs as Coal was still bouyant from Falkland Yd to the Aire Valley, Container traffic, Enterprise trains including 56072 on the Hoyer working to Tees ...
Barnetby 2001

Another evening spent at Barnetby in Summer 2001 witnessing Grids, Tugs and the odd Shed hard at work on various traffic flows to and from Humberside. In fact, such was the volume of traffic passing the station that some Locos were crawling towards the camera having been held awaiting the freight ahead to clear the long sections associated with the semaphore signalling in and around the station
Newport 2001

Whilst there may have been a lack of Class 37's there was no shortage of Freight with Class 60's predominant on Wagonload, Steel, Oil and Scrap workings. Right at the end of this clip is the astonishing sight of a loaded MGR train passing Southampton which was heading from the Western Docks to Didcot Power station which was seen on my way home
An evening at Doncaster

One of many visits to Doncaster for the evening but this one is unique. There used to be FOUR Northbound Enterprise trains passing the station in the space of an hour, a Warrington Arpley, a Deanside, a Tees Yard and a Mossend. On this evening, all four were Class 56 hauled!! Sit back and enjoy and look out for 56116 on ''Coal Tubs''!!

Part of an evening session at Carlisle when the traffic levels ramp up after 10pm. We see 86's, 90's and several 92's plus pairs of DRS 37s each way on the Malcolm Group trains to and from Daventry. Several sheds also show themselves along with 47746 on a ballast train. All in all some great variety to be had
Knabbs Bridge and Croxton - 1st May 2001

A video taken 21 years ago to the day!! Filming starts on Knabbs bridge near Barnetby where we see MGRs, Ore trains, Oil trains and the 6D65 Doncaster to Immingham 'Enterprise' service. My apologies for occasionally blocking the shot whilst taking pictures, especially when 58041 passes!!! I then move to Croxton Farm crossing on the climb up from Brocklesby where the loaded trains leaving Humber...
Newport - May 2001

Whilst there may be plenty of sheds in this clip, this is a reminder of just how busy Newport was. There are quite a few clips with 2 Freights in shot and one sequence with THREE Freights in the station trying to head West!! MGRs to Llanwern and Aberthaw rattle through with the eclectic HAAs and plenty of Steel trains pass along with other commodities
Lineside at Melton Ross

We are back in 2001 again and i spent lots of time in the Barnetby area during this year. My only footage shot at the lineside at Melton Ross is captured here with the usual fayre of 56, 60 and 66's on Freight traffic plus a section afterwards at the station at Barnetby

After a session at Doncaster i made my way to Barnetby along with my fellow 'Grid Chaser' Mark Finch. Newport - March 2001

Almost 21 years to the day is this clip of heavy Freight at Newport. The 66's had certainly made their mark on the South Wales freight scene however Class 60's were certainly to the fore in this video. We also see Class 67s on Mail traffic and a Class 47 on a Liner but No 37s or 56s :-( And yes, i was mad enough to go when it was snowing and yes it was bloomin freezing!!

This is the first of 3 video's taken from a 12 hour session on Carlisle station. Arriving early afternoon i filmed through until about 2.30am. This shows the daylight hour freight services that passed the station and has been re-uploaded to run alongside the night time footage recently added

This is effectively the missing link in a 12 hour session at Carlisle in 1999 showing the session from early evening until just before 11pm. We see 2 pairs of 20s on flasks amongst the more regular traffic including Liner's, MGR's, Mail trains and wagonload traffic including 37219 on an empty Log train

Despite it being 1999 we only had 2 sheds through Carlisle and they were in the early evening. This video is shot under the harsh station lights and we see a variety of traffic passing the station. This 27 minute clip is just a 4 hour stint on the station as the station clock shows 22.50 as 6004 departs South. Great video,when i was at school back in 90s.i was on school residential(holiday) to snowdonia in wales and we went past bescot depot on the motorway that ran along side it and also saw aston villa football club too.
At 611 on the video diesel going off around the bend heading for brookwood the siding that stops short of the house used to run past the house until freight train with empty rail carrying flat bogees was switched onto the siding of the main line and crashed into the back of a load of frieght cars the impact snapped one of them in half and it was up in the air like a large pyramid right next to the house it took hours and hours of them trying to figure it out so that the thing didn't topple into the side of the house that was about mid 1970s I lived in the Kingsway which is around 100 yards from that house the noise of the impact was deafaning

Re.e.ber storming this shed in 1972. A group of us went through the gap in the fence and down the hill. We we were rumbled when we ended up in the depot itself and had to be removed via the road entrance. Happy days

In Tinsley 47236 inside the shed was ex Canton TMD in 1974-86 & the 47 with No front cab was 47291 in RFD Livery, spares use wfu, I saw the first 2 Rumanian Built 56001/002 arrive on 7 Aug 1976 (I was inside the shed) pushed into the Maintenance Depot by a Class 31, Both were so New & Shiny in old BR Blue Livery, in them days we were spoilt for choice for Loco's, Just buy an old Locoshed Spotters book to see how many Diesels BR had in them days.
Great Video, That's how I remember 87101 Stephenson in that livery during the 80's often seen in Willesden Depot.

Old Oak was always great for a discreet stroll round - did you get n by the hole in the canal fence?
I used to live up in North West London in the late 80s/early 90s and i used to wander round a couple of times a week usually after work in high summer when it was light!! I even got familiar with a couple of the Foremen down there who were always obliging!!

S&T had blue wagons, great example here.
47150 & 152 where the first 47’s to be converted and operate in multi on Freightliners. They were incredibly suited to that work type being able to hold their own against 2 x 86’s. &5mph climbing up Stoke Bank for 2000 tones was impressive for sure.

Reminds me when I used to pull all nights with the FMI gang - BT4, Chalky, Dave Lindsell, onlydjw to name but a few, even though they were a few years after this there was still plnety to see during the day & overnight - with plenty of variety! Splendid! Back then i would never of thought class 66's would mean so much to me in the end! 66055 there, i have vids by her driving, or more like blasting off that loco, after getting her token, on the single line to Calvert. . . . I will share some more one day hehe. . . Very interesting video mate, that 20 at the end ooof!!!

Excellent! A regular haunt for me up from Kent in the 90's, so much traffic there. Nice to see 56031 'Merehead' as my ex girlfriend remembers driving that one! Also nice to see her these days masquerading as 69001 down my parts. The loco that is :) . . . I spend hours sometimes playing trains at Donny in my head staring at my 16 x model 56's and others i painted, imagining 1990 again.
When they build a time machine i will go back with you!! They were great days. I never experienced Donny during the Deltic days but i bet that was a different gravy!!!!

Great video, with bonus on the route via Portobello. It's still used for services trains and diversions. Pre-pandemic there was a daily Pendolino, TfW 158, and a LM Turbostar timetabled through. Obviously that's changed but when/if service levels ramp up they should start again.

Never ventured up the line to Croxton Farm crossing Steve when i used to go to that line. Wish i had now as it looks great.The 58 was a good catch as i don't remember them being all that common to and from Immingham, and the thrash from 56103 was a bit special wasn't it. Good film mate.
Thanks Colin. The 58 was a chuck out from Worksop and the only one that i saw venture to Immingham. Shame i ruined the Video a bit but i did get a good Fot of it and when it came back loaded. Unfortunately we were at New Barnetby and i could not video due to the high sided footbridge

At that time the muddy track down to Wrawby was closed due to foot mouth like everywhere else.

What a lot of 37s! Interesting: a 90 and Class 20s racing 🏁. And the 37/90 parallel departure at the end.
☺At10:09the 1853 Alphaline service to Cardiff Central was delayed by approximately 10 minutes, then literally five seconds later it was delayed by approximately 17 minutes! 😳
Lol!! This was the start of the age of the digitally generated announcements and they were going off pretty non stop until the late evening!! Think the weather had something to do with the delays

The words "The delayed xxxx service to London Paddington" was very common at that time. 🤔 At least there wasn't the endless "Bing bong May we have your attention please" and then repeated all over again in Welsh 🤫
