How Frankfurt Celebrates Christmas Eve, Pealing of the Bells & Carols on the Römerberg
Turn up the volume for the Pealing of the Bells. This is 50 bells in 10 churches, ringing for 30 min. Then a brass band plays German Christmas carols from the gallery of the Alte Nikolai.
Not sure how many people were downtown, but it felt like 100,000 or more. They have to stop the trams it is so packed. Many people bring their own thermos of Glühwein or cocoa, but there were a few stands selling it, as well as pretzels.
The Christmas market is gone, but I added this video to the playlist for Christmas markets since it is an integral part of the celebration here.
If you want to hear all 30 minutes of the pealing of the bells, there is an extra video of that from last year on the 1st Advent.

What Can You Eat at the Frankfurt Christmas Market, Part 1
Переглядів 892Місяць тому
Wondering what to eat at the Christmas Markets and what does it all cost? Many markets may have the same foods, but there may be some differences as well as different prices. Even stands at the same market may be selling their bratwurst or crepe for a different price, but not by a lot. I didn't show any drinks on this video, that can be on a different one. Only about 1/3 of the Frankfurt Christ...

Frankfurt Christmas Tree 2024 - Florian
Переглядів 174Місяць тому
Favorite thing for Frankfurters to do is to come down to the Römerberg on the morning the Christmas Tree arrives, gets installed and find out the name. The Frankfurt Fire Dept. are the sponsors this year and have named the tree, Florian, who is the patron saint of Firefighters. Florian will rest for a few days so the branches can spring back in place, he will get bare spots filled in with extra...

So cool I love Germany 🇩🇪 ❤
I missed it, didn't knew of this, how did you guys come to know about it
Because it happens every year. If you check our blog, we list events in Frankfurt. Or if you follow us on FB. Sorry you missed it. Maybe next year?
Very cool!
Thank you for the festive videos! Happy Holidays!
So glad you enjoyed them, as always! See you again soon in 2025, unless I get something else posted this week, maybe the Pealing of the Bells tomorrow evening.
Beautiful!! Have a Merry Christmas!!
Thanks, Merry Christmas to you too!
I do not remember there ever being a ferris wheel at any of the Christmas markets I went to in Frankfurt in the mid 80s. That's beautiful! Thank you again for sharing! On a different note. What is the reason for not being able to photograph the old 97th hospital. I know it's the US consulate now but I guess I don't understand. Probably a security issue.
They started putting up a ferris wheel when they opened the market up over here on the Rossmarkt during or right after Covid. Correct about the security at the consulate. They don't want people filming the cameras, etc.
@frankfurtonfoottours2361 Someday I would really love to go back to Germany for a couple months.
@@richardpemberton6597 Hope you get to come back again too. It has changed a lot since the 80s.
Can you buy the flixbus ticket in there?
You have to buy your flixbus ticket online or at their stand at the bus parking lot.
Absolutely beautiful 😍
Yep, it sure is. I love seeing it each year.
Do you remember the name of the pasta stand?
@@RevTBone I don’t but it is right across from the Historic museum & by the river.
Very colorfull but the way you were bundled up, it must have been a cold evening. Do you have a knee replacement?
Yes, it was quite cold that evening. I just had my knee cleaned up, so crutches for 2 weeks.
I just had a nerve stimulator impant placed in my lower left inner leg. Evenings before I go to bed, I place a holster like wrap around my lower left leg. The holster has two pockets. One of the pockets houses a transmitter and the other an antenna. The transmitter and the antenna are connected with an electric cable. The transmitter has a setting of 1 to 24. My setting is 12. I sleep with it over night and take it off the next morning. Now the mircle happens. I take it off and I am good for the entire day. I have two holsters, 2 transmitters (one I keep charged) and three antennas. Something to consider in-lieu-of total knee replacement if and when you get to that point.
So many goodies! Love the music too! Happy holidays!
Thanks. The really go all out finding these unique things.
The slippers are my favs
I like them too. They make me laugh every time I see them.
I'm 52, lived in Old Edwards 81-84 w/ my older and younger sisters. @ 6:44 building on the right, yep 2nd floor, end unit! Wow! Ele.entary was the recreational center right? The 3+1 story condo-plex just S.E. from the little recreational center where ->WE ALL (Full House) WATCHED A BOOTLEG OF E.T., no FBI warning on that really crappy VHS. Yeah, after that WE ALL went and stood in line around the block to see it legit in the closest theater, that or Blade Runner...
What great memories to share with us!
Yummy!!! Thank you for sharing!
Have you had these?
@frankfurtonfoottours2361 Not all of those different flavors. They all sound delicious, though.
@@richardpemberton6597 I haven't tried all of them and they have different ones each year.
I was in Frankfurt today in the höchst we were accidentally on the wrong way we were to the airport
So, you got to see Höchst?
@ yes and airport we were going the wrong way we didn’t know where höchst is so yeah
I was so glad to find this video. I lived in Frankfurt from 1976-1979 and I saw my apartment building on Inheidener Strasse at the end of your wonderful video!
@@PhotoAlbert How cool!
I am not vegetarian in part but it nice to see the market is giving non meat eateries a good mix of options 😊 and non animal products to eg vegan
I thought so too. It is nice when everyone gets something delicious to eat at the Christmas market.
Yes I agree 👍
I was watching a BBC program, and they said the rope has broken at least 5 times over the centuries. One time it flew out the window. LMAO
Have just returned home from the Frankfurt Christmas Market. Beautiful city and lovely market stands. The potato pancakes were my favourite food, had to get them two days running, didn’t try them with the apple sauce but with the garlic sauce they were very tasty. Food portions were huge, couldn’t finish most of what I bought.
They are my favorite thing to eat too. Nice item to share as 3 of them are just too much.
I eat gluten free - do I have any chance of getting something good LOL
Not sure to be honest. I have never looked for items like that, but perhaps the chocolate covered fruit? Roast chestnuts? Baked potatoes? Potato pancakes? Pommes, bratwurst without the bread?
That's where my wife and I lived while we were stationed there. We loved it! It was a hopping place every night. Especially on the weekends!
Oh my, I bet it was.
The whole time I was there, I had never heard of this place. Thank you for sharing this. A beautiful memorial to these women.
It is sort of stuck in the middle of the woods, so not easy to find. It is a shocking part of history and sad that more people don't know about it.
That's absolutely beautiful! Thank you for sharing!
It was so beautiful, that I went to this show twice.
At 1:28, building on left was 3AD Command Building an one on right was Division Finance and probably a few other sections.
Thanks for sharing the information. It will help others recognize the buildings.
Fun! Thank you! Merry Christmas! 🎄🎁
Same to you!
Just found your videos! I was stationed at the 97th. I loved Frankfurt! Thank you so much!!!
So glad you found the videos and that you enjoy them.
Hi ! This is extremely useful thank you! Do you perhaps know if I can get someone to drive us to this hotel with a buggy? Or maybe if I can use the airport trolleys all the way up to the check in counter? I’ll be traveling alone with two toddlers (one still on the stroller). Thank you in advance !
That will be tough with a stroller and one of the carts, going up escalators. What do you mean with a buggy?
I'm glad I ate before watching this or I'd be raiding the cupboards.
Too funny!
The Building you are jot sure what it is or was. Is a prison.
Not anymore though.
Hi thank you for the video May I know what is the difference between 1day ticket and the frankfurt card 1-day? Which one is more worthed?
I wish someone would sell roasted chestnuts at one of the Minneapolis Christmas markets.
They are easy to make yourself if you have chestnut trees or can buy them.
what is the name of the street separating Drake and Edwards? Trying to find it on a map. I was there, HHC 1986-87.
Homburger Landstrasse.
many thanks this is a great help to travellers
So glad it will be helpful to you
Thank you for this video
Thank you for this video, I have a 9 hour layover in Frankfurt next week and I will be sure to take a shower to freshen up. I am not planning on going outside the airport so what else would you recommend me to do to kill time?
Next video: how to breathe
Not sure what you mean by that?
I was station at Gutleut Kaserne from late 1975 until it was turned over to the German Government towards to end of 1976. My room was on the 3rd floor facing Gutleut Strasse in the section that still remains. Last year I was able to go back to see Gutleut. I have great memories of the time I spent there. HHD 709th MP Bn.
Glad you got to come back and see it. Thanks for sharing your memories. I bet you have a lot of them from the 70s.
@@frankfurtonfoottours2361I do have many memories of my time in West Germany. My wife was with me so she finally got to see the place I had talked about so many times and the area where I spent some of the best times of my life. It was happy to see what remains and saddened to know what was demolished. Gutleut is like a part of me, my youth. Thank you.
That Irish Bar has been there forever !!!! 1984 ! U.S. Army 💪🇺🇲
Yes, I think so too. It has been there since I got here in 1986.
@@frankfurtonfoottours2361 I went in it a couple of times during those crazy weekends ! Good, good times. I was in Babenhausen which is 30 klics S.E. of Frankfurt. The Kasern is closed now.I lived in Offenbach when I was there. That's where my daughter was born, she just turned 39. I loved Germany and want to go back very much. 💪♥️🇺🇲🇩🇪🪖
Thank you for the fun video! Just back from a month in Spain and holiday lights going up in Madrid. Now for cooler weather! Happy holidays!
Glad you liked it. It will look even better when he gets decorated.
It was so much fun! Thanks for sharing.
Have been waiting almost a year to post this!
Very interesting. Lovely to see this and planning a visit for 2025 !
Classic, a hoka marathon dominated by Adidas shoes
It is what it is sometimes.
1975 was 1977 109th military platoon Gibbs son was born at the hospital there.
We get a lot of people watching these videos who were either born at 97th Gen. Hospital or they had their kids there. Thanks for sharing that you were one of them.
Thank you so much, the video is very helpful.
Glad to hear it was helpful.
I’ve never been to this train station, I transfer in few days from there to the airport. I’m so glad I came across your video because I only have 10 minutes in between transfer! You’re a life saver! Thanks so much!
It is a dead end station, so if you can make your way to the front of the train, or at least be ready by the door when the train stops, it will make your transfer easier.
@@frankfurtonfoottours2361 Good to know, I shall do that, thanks

Terminal 2 is not always crowded
Terminal 2 is often not crowded at all. There are days when Terminal 1 is not crowded either. Just depends on what is happening, holidays, etc.
@@frankfurtonfoottours2361 I went there often for plane spotting and ever since it’s always not crowded and not busy, but it is considered one of the busiest airport in Europe. I wonder how come it is always not crowded if its one of the busiest. Or maybe its because the design is so efficient and well structured. Terminal 2 is also one of the airport that the arrival area is not separate from departing passengers
Thank you for sharing this video 👍 I was stationed at Drake Kaserne from 88-90. There was a German Pub just outside of the Kaserne where an older lady, Kitty, was a waitress. She had waited on Elvis Presley when he was stationed on the Edwards side of the street. Was also a big fan of Da Angelo's pizza restaurant up the road. Sure miss those days.
Thanks for sharing your fun memories.
Thank you for the video it's really helpful! Can we stay at the airport while we wait for our ICE? Like if it's 6 hours till the train comes
Of course you can stay at the airport, it is an open space to the public. though 6 hours is a long time to wait. You could come into the city for a short visit with 6 hours waiting time.
@@frankfurtonfoottours2361 I'll be arriving very late at night sadly, otherwise I would've loved to explore the city :( Thank you so much for taking the time to answer me and for your amazing videos!
