      Inclusive workplaces should welcome the perspectives and experiences of everyone. Diversity goes beyond race and gender to include age, ability, learning style, education level, class, national origin, veteran status, religion, and more. These intersectional qualities help everyone in the workplace find ways to connect with each other, build trust, and forge strong relationships that lead to high-performing teams. Sometimes, White men don’t think they are included in DEI efforts, and many see DEI initiatives as taking away their opportunities or status. Again, it’s vital to include everyone’s perspective and provide an avenue for honest conversations. Employee resource groups (ERGs) increase employee engagement and belonging, and people should be welcome to participate as allies, even if they don’t share the same demographic of the supported group. Additionally, ERGs can be set up around identities beyond race and gender. Generational ERGs, for example, bring senior employees and younger workers together for mentoring and team-building.

    That must be why DEI teams are the first to be fired when push comes to shove..lol.     KSA or DIE. If you’re a government worker or a veteran that has applied for a government job your qualifications are based upon: KSA = Knowledge, Skills, Ability. DIE = Diversity, Inclusion, Equity (Equity is not the same as Equality) does nothing to prove an individual’s Knowledge, Skills and Ability to do the job. If a company feels compelled to add a DIE hiring manager or change their company logo to rainbow colors to pander to the LGBTQ group or DIE group, it’s perceived as patronizing and thus that company may be suspect or actually guilty of past discriminatory hiring practices. The bottom line…any Federal, State, public or private company that discriminates against a person’s race, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation, political affiliation, economic status, veteran status or disability is in violation of State and Federal employment laws. Teach your children well.

    While I fully understand the principles here, when we talk about technology, as you listed, they are referring to good and evil. Dark hat did not fit the bill so black hat or black list did. Unlike other words, such as rule of thumb and uppity, these technological words did not originate from hatred or dark times. Furthermore, white space was labeled as such because it is literally a white space.

While there may not have been any negative intent during the creation of these terms, this terminology may be perceived by some groups to be offensive, particularly when White is presented as the standard or ideal and Black is presented as the opposite of the ideal. In order to create an inclusive environment, it is best practice to avoid using phrases that may be potentially offensive to others.
