AWD Cobalt Part 2 Engine Removal & Teardown
Im building a 2005 cavalier. When i pull the dash. What do i need to watch out for to set off the the car where it wont start
Exactly how I replaced one on my 08 chevy cobalt underneath the cartridge oil housing. Turns out it was leaking right through my sensor where you plug it in from the nut. For about a week the oil low red light was on and off sporadically even though every time I checked it, it was still good on the dipstick. They do leak through the sensor. 208 thousand miles on my cobalt.
Hi , if can i ask ,could i use 39mm turbo on my bmw 2000cs with base/factory spec 2000cc 120hp?
we are doing a manual swap but we cannot figure out where the manual transmission mounts go on the auto car, could you some how send me pictures of your or post a vidoe of where they go so we can go off that??
Unfortunately I don't have a cavalier anymore and he doesn't either so I can't really post anything. Sorry about that
I need to remove one expansion bolt from the Transmission Mount, since I want to replace that mount. In the car 2003 Chevy Cavalier, the Transmission Mount is attached to the subframe with 3-4 usual bolts and one expansion bolt, which is located at the center of the mount. No films about that process in details, but I saw one film where the author broke that expansion bolt on Chevy Transmission Mount. Please could you tell if the procedure of the removal of the expansion bolt on a car would be the same, as in this film? Do I also need those special tools to remove it? I have a Shop Manual for that car, and on the replacement of the Transmission Mount they don't say about any special tools, just say: Remove the Expansion Bolt, then remove other bolts. I would appreciate any opinion on this matter. Thank you for your film again.
I haven't had a cavalier for a couple years so I domt have anything to go off of but I dont remember the expansion bolt you are mentioning.
@@itsjustatune It is there, and it is very unique and strange bolt. Everyone is afraid of it since it is discontinued and unknown what to do if you brake it. I'm curious how wide that type of bolt is used in automotive industry? Or it is only present on 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier? usually those expansion bolts are for constructions.
@olenaerhardt7725 I had mine out a couple times and never saw a strange bolt. If you want you can send me a picture over on my Instagram and I could try to help you. My Instagram is @therealcobaltchris2
I cant believe how dumb i was lol. I thought i had gained 30 hp by putting a 3 in exhaust on my car😂😂😂
It is unnecessary to remove the engine. Read Chilton's manual
I've always found it easier this way even if it's technically the wrong way
Hey man, what did you figure out with the shifter not letting it go into certain gears? I’m running into that same problem.
It was a long time ago and I can't remember what happened but I believe it was worn out gears
Thanks for the video. All the other videos had me taking off a bunch of parts underneath when it was much easier to go from the top like you suggested. Oil was all over the clip sensor and on the TCM bottom sensor. Car already runs better. Had issues with it for two years so I’m crossing my fingers!
That's awesome I hope it fixed the problem, glad I could help
What is the mount or bracket called that holds the transmission shaft and engine together don't know if it's a bracket or mount can't find any where
I'm not sure exactly what you mean but the engine and transmission bolt together
Bell housing maybe?
Could you tell where to attach the hoist chain on the Driver side. I see the special bracket w/hole on the passenger side of the engine, where I can attach the chain hook, but can't figure out how to attach the hoist on the Driver side, no bracket there. The car is 2003 Chevy Cavalier w/automatic transmission. Thank you for the great film. Update: It is on the left (DS) rear corner of the engine, kind of on the diagonal fm/the front bracket. There were 2 holes to attach it to. I understood that my rear bracket was stolen at some dealer place, but I bought another one on ebay and attached it there.
I'm sorry for the late response but i honestly couldn't tell you. I don't have a cavalier where I'm at right now so I can't really go check and see
@@itsjustatune That's fine, thank you for the concern. I found out already that there should be a special bracket on the DS, but it was stolen at one dealer (presumably), since they were working in that area on Ignition system like 3-4 years ago. I bought 2 brackets for any chance, if another theft go unnoticed (I'll be checking the Engine Bay fm now on of course after visiting suspicious places). Thank you again, really appreciate it.
Thanks a lot for this video on how to change it.
No problem glad I could help
Glad I could help
3in too big unless its on race engines
Yeah I was kinda new to it lol. I remember feeling a loss of power in the lower rpms but then a power gain in the high rpms. I loved how it sounded tho
Very cool bro🔥🔥🔥
I got a quick question for ya. When ya installed the bed plate back, does it jus go back metal to metal?
I used the Permatex 51813 anaerobic gasket maker. Just a decent amount and it gets torqued down right away
nice work
Thanks
Yoo plan to do a roll cage. These things are nasty in wrecks
Car is long gone because of a wildfire but I agree if it was a racecar.
@itsjustatune oh man sorry to here.. yeah the engines are pretty sweet for boost, the frame is light and the crash tests were bad, I had one for like 9 years, very good mpg
@@itsjustatune people swap the 3800 v6 and drag race too. Hella sweet
@XG916 yeah I've seen a couple of those. I really want to sometime
If you see this. Did the person you bought yours from program the odometer reading in or did it just show the correct milege when you it turned on?
If your remember I know it's been like two years atleast
@InShane162 yeah I believe it's in the computer so it doesn't matter. Actually looking back at the listing it says it will be set correctly so maybe it is.

That’s crazy bro
I think that most of the Cavalier digital odometer are defective. The one in mine has that slightly burnt area around the digital readout. Great video! Didn't think anyone else out there still cared for these cars😅
Yeah I blew the transmission last August and scrapped the car. I've really been missing it tho so definitely buying another sometime
Promo-SM
Does it requires to add Teflon tape on that oil sending unit's treads? Before installng it?
I'm not sure but I didn't and it never leaked
I have searched with so much worry man. thank you
You're very welcome
What headlights?
I honestly don't remember I think they were off of Amazon
nice
If your using this Chevy to learn fine if your thinking of fixing it up it had better been your grandfather car.
I was planning on putting a big turbo on it for fun but I just took it ro the scrapyard today
@@itsjustatune what changed your mind to just scrap the car?
@Icanflyagain it never was worth it and just decided I didn't want to rebuild the whole car. I actually had the engine and transmission out but put it back in to scrap it
@@itsjustatune alright. Just interested because I like chevrolet and their spare parts are ridiculously cheap here in Europe. Planning to get myself a 2013-2014 Cruze with the 1.4T engine well maintained in working condition and immediately replace the turbo oil feed line and thermostat just in case You can buy a new turbo to it for less than 400€ here
@Icanflyagain yeah this one needed everything rebuilt it obviously hadn't had the maintenance done. Also I did buy a new turbo blew it right away
Daewoo Lacetti Premiere....
It's a chevy junk it. Waste of time
Even if it is I'm learning more about these cars
Are you watching me, watching you? Lol my 91 accord ran a 16.3@83mph back in the day. This was a pretty good comparison
What did you have done to your accord?
68 was the MPH 🤫 I now can see why 128 HP excited you 🤭
Haha yeah my car probably would have made a bit more power just because it's in great condition. Also I just checked the time slips and they were 80 and 81 mph
Any updates yet?
This car has actually been gone for a couple years it never got very far. I plan on getting another cobalt here soon and actually doing it. I have the donor car for the drivetrain already
You don’t have to remove the glove box door completely
Thanks
AND THEY WONDER WHY PEOPLE BUY?
Nice one👍💪🤝💯🔥
Thanks
@@itsjustatune you're welcome brother, that's why we're here to support you
I got a 2006 Cobal and one of the lifters start to make some noise what I did is pour 1oz for each liter of oil of SEA FOAM and after 30 minutes the noise is gone. Now I do that all the time in all my veicles. Sea Foam is the best and I don't get pay anything 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
"In the head, where the cam rides" are the Cam journals. Good video, reminds me of when I rebuilt the 4g63t in my eclipse.
Yeah I'm actually doing the valve seals literally right now and I'm using a spring compressor for a 4g63
Where do you find the mount for the front of the transmission for thr manual
Pretty much anywhere online. Lots of them on ebay. Hope this helps
I need this, my parents handed me down this vehicle and need a fix.
The exact listing that I used is gone but you just look for 2000 to 2005 cavalier rebuilt gauge cluster or speedometer. You should find something similar. Good luck 👍

Hey you got that radiator support on eBay? I checked recently, but it says sold out. Can you let me know how and where on eBay I can get one? Please and thanks!
I just did some looking and it appears to be sold out everywhere.
Thanks for the update.
L
Great review
Thanks
3 in sounds too big
It actually is but it sounds better and has more top end power
thanks
That water in the catch can is completely normal. Its just condensation
Ok cool I could see condensation inside the lid but I haven't run a catch cam before so I didn't know 👍
As you can tell I was pretty stoked about going down the dragstrip for the first time lol.
Wat muffler u using I like to know thank u
I honestly don't remember what was on the car but there wasn't any muffler. That car got totaled because of a wildfire and now he has an srt4.
Do you still have the cavalier? I have one as well and mine has just a bit more weight reduction than yours in this video.
Nope I need to make a video on what happened and what's next but I literally don't have any vehicles at the moment
What are you using as a drive train I wanna awd swap my cobalt
I actually haven't had this car for almost 2 years and both my other care are gone as well so it's not happening anytime soon. I'll post videos if I end up doing it
So im manual swapping myself and am trying to get the transmission on the engine and it’s a pain is it better with two people?
It's definitely easier. I've always had someone who could keep the engine from moving while I got the transmission attached
Please what kind of jack do you use
I use the Harbour Freight 3 Ton Jacks. They are some of the cheapest and work as good as the expensive one's
