The only reason this movie is famous is because the music. The theme, is a masterpiece, everything else is just old people pretending to be young and fast gun, in other words this movie is just about killing. Nothing to países, about, nothing good to defend, no allan ladd, no john Wayne, no clase, pure trash, excepto, for the sublime, heavenly music, a masterpiece!

That amazing camera crane shot from the window of the train station and then up and over the roof to the town with Ennio Morriconne’s amazing music swelling in time to the elevation of the shot is pure cinema magic!

Such a great movie, score, camera work, acting, script as you will never see in a movie again. Some things to really pay attention to in this slice of the movie. Notice the crane shot when Jill enters the station with the swelling of the score into a crescendo showing the optimism of a growing town, the frontier becoming civiilized. I can't recall a director who actually directs extras so well. You have the crane shot of the town and people actually look busy doing something. The unloading of the train and the load master cheerfully getting the workers to pickup the pace, perfect. I know from experience! And the scene of Sam maniacally racing his coach through the railroad workers, again men look as though they are building a railroad, with an air of bemusement at the antics of Sam and his coach. This is really really important because Leone is building an immersive world for the viewer to fall into before the movie really gets rolling. The viewer starts to care about the characters early on. It's key to making this a great movie, even without the endless dialogue which ruins so many movies.

Great films are about the journey not just the destination. The cart driver must have doing well by the way….immaculate white teeth in the Old West.

I discovered this movie by accident. Back in the 70's I was a bartender, and one night I got home at 4am and this film was on TV. I was half asleep right until the moment Henry Fonda blows away the kid. From that second on I was mesmerized by this film, particularly this song by Ennio Morricone, "Jill's Theme," perhaps the most beautiful love theme ever written.

The heartbreak of getting off of the train, wondering where your new family is you were expecting to be there to take you home, only later to find that they didn't come to the train station for you because all four of them had been brutally murdered by a hired gun for greed over the family's land.

The crane shot at 3:50. Maybe the best shot in all of film combined with the best theme ever. We feel how overwhelmed Jill is stepping in to this story. All with out a single word of dialog. Mastery of the art.

The use of silence and facial expressions were impeccable! One of the three best westerns ever made! Almost perfection! Sergio and Ennio was the best combo ever in film history…no others were close! The long landing wideouts with the music telling the story without any dialogue were so beautiful, matched and surpassed by the ever beautiful CC!

So heartbreaking to see this kind & decent woman expecting a proper life with a husband and away from the New Orleans brothel life she had been forced into as a young girl, only to find he & his kids had been slaughtered. Saving grace is she stayed and took over what her deceased husband & his family had started to build. She is the strongest character in the film next to Bronson.

My opinion, best Western, only beaten by the original Magnificent Seven, both have fantastic soundtracks, great acting and plenty of action. Entirely subjective of course.
