Ford F-350 OBS 7.3 turbo removal - the ONLY TOOLS that I needed ?!
Ford OBS 7.3 diesel - TURBO REMOVAL - these are the only tools that worked for me ! After several hours of trying to remove the turbo and several trips to local stores to find tools - I would up removing the turbo ( in about 50 minutes ) with only a 1/4” drive compact ratchet with a 6” extension , a 1/4” drive compact 10mm and 15mm compact universal sockets from Matco , a cheap 3/8 drive 15mm crows foot and an 8mm ratcheting wrench. Also used an LED work light to light up the underside of the motor
The 1/4 “ drive universal sockets are significantly shorter and thinner than any 3/8” drive universal socket - for me it was the only thing that worked
Once I had the right universal sockets the job went relatively smoothly - took about 40-60 minutes to remove the pedestal and turbo ( not counting prep, removal of the Y pipe, wasted trips to hardware stores , watching you tube vids etc !:)
One thing I forgot to mention, but if you look close enough you can see the bolt is loose ) I removed one additional 12 point bolt at the top of the iron turbine between the compressor and the turbine to make it easier to get the extension and angle on the bolt at the drivers side lower stud.
Hope this helps

Mid removal on my turbo and this video help a lot, showed me it was worth the effort to remove the EBPV to get to the turbo flange bolt, I just need to get a 15mm wobble socket so I can get the other turbo bolt out and finish up 👍🏼

I think the sockets you need to get the flange bolts off are 13mm ( the easy top ones ) and 15mm, for the aluminum pedestal base they are 10mm - you can order them from MATCO online individually

I’ve seen plenty of turbo removal videos and haven’t seen the fernco coupling trick before I will definitely do that when I do my turbo thanks!

@@zeke289goops8 It’s worth doing , I made a mistake. They’re called Fernco caps or Fernco fittings anyway, you can get them anywhere by any name. It’s the same thing you know what to do.

Just tackled this three weeks ago and due to leaky upper orings (between the pedestal and cartridge) caused by hair line cracks in the turbo cartridge, I had to install and uninstall the entire turbo assembly a total of 5 times…got a lot faster but was a total PITA everytime. GREAT freaking video, I had to figure this process out the hard way!!

@@hello-uk7zd Yeah, it’s not the easiest but I’ll tell you once I got the right tools for the job. It went remarkably well. I honestly don’t see how guys get these 3 /8 drive wobble sockets in to do this job. I just can’t see that happening. The only thing that worked for me was the way I did it, and those were the exact tools that I used. I have to dread installing it in the next couple of days so that’ll be another adventure I imagine
