Wow! It just like just love and grab this first words. Is just tell me why I just got my way lately. And give God the glory for connecting. Thank you for sharing
I don’t understand what you’re saying
Hi Jane! I’m a recent chemical engineering grad with a 3.1/4.0 GPA, a decent GRE score, and I’m working on publishing my undergraduate thesis. I’ve been considering applying to grad programs and was wondering, how competitive is the admissions process at the University of Rochester for someone with my background? Would love to hear your thoughts
Every school is competitive. You just have to do your best to send in a great application package.
You have inspired me in getting a Phd. I am about to finish my masters
Hahaha, I am happy for you!
@UnikJane I don't rili know the process on getting a Phd
Sis,u are really a great inspiration.U are my mentor from now, pls am currently doing my Master in public health epidemiology,my greatest dream is to get fully funded scholarship for PHD in US, Probably 2026, pls I need ur prayers guidance. May God keep expanding u as u help us more
Awwh thank you. Congratulations on your masters. And I pray you get a fully funded scholarship for your PhD.
Hiiii, I’m an undergraduate student currently studying in the US with a 70% percent scholarship but the 30% deficit is still a lot. Any advice?
Hi, thanks for your comment. You can look for additional scholarships/fellowships that you can apply for. Also, do on campus jobs when the semester is on, and during summer do internships. All these will help you make extra money to help with the payment. You got this! 🤗
Amazing❤
Thank you 🙏🏽
You are simply amazing , thank you
Thank you too!
Pls what uni did you do your undergrad in Nigeria?

@@UnikJane 👏👏👏
🙏🏽🙏🏽
Thank you Doc.
Of course! It was my pleasure 😊
Wow! You are a genius…
Hhaha thanks for the compliment. But I am far from being a genius 😂😂
You didn't talk about the money; ahh!
Which money? 😂
@ You have to mention it o! You can’t make me crave indulgence and leave me wallowing in the quagmire not hearing the key take away. No way! 😊
😂😂 in another video
Congratulation. I admire you
Thank you so much 😀
But you know the value of the Canadian dollars is different from the US dollars. So the food you ordered may eventually have about the same value if a currency conversion is made.
No it wasn’t. I was paying with my US card, so I was being charged in US dollar.
Research is not that easy 😂. Thanks for the reminder.
It is fun sometimes.
Oh, thanks for sharing about fellowships for travel grants.
You’re welcome
While I know it's important to attend conferences as a PhD student, id like to know if it's easy to be given days off for this when you're also a graduate assistant.
You definitely get days off to attend conferences. Just talk to your boss about it.
A really compelling Statement of Purpose!
Thank you 🙏🏽
Amen! Congrats! On the PhD journey, I've been a nurse for 25 years, now a nurse practitioner, and am currently pursuing a Ph.D. 56 years is the new 30, and investing in the future of nursing and patients is my priority. I do not want to lose the knowledge, skills, and experiences I've acquired to the grave; I prefer to share them.
Wow, you are an inspiration! Thank you for your passion and dedication. Your experience will be such a valuable asset.
Did you ever consider just going into academia full time? Or you don't think you are cut out for a lifetime of research?
I love to do research but not in academic settings. As a PhD holder, I can do research in so many places including industry. I think I talked about this in my video posted before this one.
@@UnikJane Yeah, I just checked it out after this one😂
Thats awesome!
A video to announce that I have arrived 😂😂. Informative
You arrived where?
Wow! This is insightful! Thank you
You're so welcome!

I guess fathers just like to boast when their kids do good. 😂😂
Congratulations Dr Jane. Its not easy at all. Its worth to be respected dear.
Thank you, it was quite a journey!
I agree, perfection is attainable and should always be the mindset but finishing is much much more important. It’s one hard lesson I learned
Thanks for sharing.

Really? Thats great! Nice to meet you.
Please i need a video on how to apply for grant for conferences.
Thanks for the suggestion. I will add it to my list. Please keep an eye for it.
Congratulations girllllllll….can you please suggest how to find conference ps to attend as a PhD chemical engineering student
Thank you! I just answered this question on your other comment. 🤗
You’re truly inspiring , are there any communities or fellowships you’d recommend for 1st and 2nd year PhD chemical engineering students
Thank you. We have AIChE, ACS, NOBCChE, and others that are research specific. So just search for organizations in your research field. Some of these organizations have fellowships, but a good place to start for fellowship is your school.
I pray to be in US soon for my PhD... Congratulations Dr. It's not an easy feat...
May God answer your prayer. Thank you 🙏🏽
Am a secondary student can i get scholarship
@@Eberechi-d1v Yes you can. Look for educationUSA Abuja or Lagos and become a member. They will provide you useful guidelines for secondary school students.
Congratulations 🎉
Thank you ☺️
Dr Jane, thank you for these series and your consistency. It’s obvious you have found a great niche, please don’t relent because I can’t wait to share my testimony soon.
Awwwh this comment just made me smile so big. Thank you so much. I will keep doing my best to be consistent. A new video will be dropping this weekend. All the best with your endeavors. I look forward to hearing your testimony! 🤗
Hey Dr, please dont forget to make the video on how to ace exams. Thanks in advance
Hi dear, yes that is my next video. It will be posted this weekend. Please turn on the notification bell.
@@UnikJane ok Dr
@@UnikJanealso, what are the rules on using ai/chatgpt? I see some PHD students sharing best practices. Also, I'm doing my masters and have noticed my school has relaxed a bit on using turnitin and chatgtp. The new era of knowledge is going to be fascinating on how best to use technology rather than fighting it.
I applied for a phd. Your video just inspired me. Thank you Nneoma.
You’re welcome and I wish you the very best with your application!
Congratulations, Dr. Jane. you are a motivation, I'm certain you will be a good mentor for your mentee, i wish i one 😊
Thank you for the compliment 😊🙏🏽
So no hugging in professional settings in the US? Here in South Africa, we hug everywhere😂. If i meet you in a conference i will hug you oooo.
Hahahha, thats the beauty of different cultures. I hope to visit South Africa! 🥰
Good to see a fellow Nigerian with a PhD in Chemical Engineering with specialty in Heterogenous Catalysis. Algorithm suggested this video. 💪🏽🇳🇬
I am so glad you found me! Are you still in the catalysis field?
Oh, no, I moved to semiconductor manufacturing where I apply my Chem Eng skills to optimize silicon wafer processing (thin films, diffusion, and annealing).
Okay thats cool! When I was interviewing before my graduation, I did get an invite from a semiconductor company but I wasn’t ready to leave catalysis. 😀Maybe I will consider it in the future.
Can you talk about life after PhD? I am currently in my first year of PhD in chemical engineering (catalysis).
Congratulations on starting your PhD!! And in catalysis? Nice! Yes, I can talk about it. Is there anything in particular that would you like to know?
Congratulations doc😂😅😊. Very interesting. I wonder if there are similar benefits to doing PhD in other countries, like Nigeria
You’re very welcome! And I’m pretty sure there are similar benefits in Nigeria!
Going for masters that’s it
Hahhahaha, why does this comment sound as if someone is forcing you to do a PhD. 😂
Nice video Dr. Jane. I have a quick question. I am a 300 level mechanical engineering student in Nigeria and I have in mind to do my masters in the United States, GOD willing, I would also like to work over there after concluding my program, in lieu of this , do I need to be COREN certified before leaving Nigeria, or can I just join ASME ( American Society of Mechanical Engineers) after my arrival in the U.S? Thank you.
It's amazing that you are thinking this far ahead in your career journey! I have never heard of these certifications being a requirement. I didn’t do any of them.
Alright, thank you Dr. Jane.
You’re welcome
1:05 - I'm just seeing the channel. you're at 19.3K subscribers 👍
Yes! 😭😭😭
I have felt like I'm not too smart, and that has got in the way of me pursuing a PhD. That was until I read a discussion on Quora where someone said PhD is not a measure of smartness, but instead a measure of resilience. I haven't even begun my masters degree, but I feel positive about going for a PhD after my second cycle of studies.
You should never feel that way about yourself. You are as smart as you see yourself. Yes, PhD requires resilience and is not a measure of smartness. I hope you end up pursuing a PhD. 🤗
@@UnikJane Thank you.
You’re welcome
Congratulations Dr. Jane. Super proud of you! I’m on this journey too 🎉
Thank you so much! You got this! I wish you the very best in your journey. It will end in praise. 🎉

Thank you for sharing your thoughts about PhD! Love it!
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Nigerian parents do too much 😂😂😂
The very most!! 😂😂
Jane, one surprising thing I found is that people without phds are actually contributing in major roles in all of these national labs. I thought only phds will be there.
Hahhaha yeah. Not everyone is a PhD. It depends on the group and the role requirements.
Hello Dr. Jane, you are doing a great work. I am Emmanuel doing my Erasmus masters in Chemical engineering here in Europe. Can you recommend for me US phd opportunities i can apply to
Hi, well done on your Erasmus masters, thats an amazing accomplishment. For PhD in the US, I have a couple of videos on my channel on how to go about it. Please check them out.
You have just gained a subscriber! I love your smile!
Awwh thank you so much! This has to be the best compliment ever. 🥰🥰
