When making my own kitchen I installed a dowmdraft ventilation hood by mounting a 1400 m3/h fan and a carbon filter. It works very well and is not expensive. 100% recirculating See also next episode: ua-cam.com/video/OtTCJhdsOjA/v-deo.html

Legend!
Genius. Thanks for share.
Pure genius! Thank you!
Lekker he, hard gaan met een glad zog.
Thank you so much for sharing this! I am really hoping to implement a similar solution. I am considering making the splashback taller than yours, with a bigger ledge, and putting the extraction hole directly in the splashback (frontal view), beneath the ledge. Do you think this could work well? How high do you recommend having the extraction hole? What are the dimensions of your splashback and ledge?
Hi. I hope you can make. An update video also ahowing maintenance Thanks!
Love it.. though how do you access the fan incase you wanna do some maintenance.
Look at the end of the video...
yes, easy to remove the panel. Last year I replaced the fan because the variable speed control was not functioning any more.
Looks so fun, basic is best👍👍👍👍 lovelt lines to it. 😊
Fish eye makes it appear flexy. (I'm sure is sound) If that were the case, do you plan to reinforce the akas with more fiberglass?
Absolutely love it, exactly what I was looking for. I like the idea of downdraft even more than those slanted 'headfree' units, but commercial solutions seem way overpriced. Thanks for showing this super simple setup!
Thanks for your kind comments. Success with your downdraft. If I can help you out, please let me know.
Do you cook a lot? I wonder where the grease is going. Usually its trapped in the carbon filter. In this case filter looks quite clean.
We cook daily, but vegeterian. With meat you should replace the carbon filter more often I guess.
I love this boat
these videos never talk about sails tho
LET IT GO
Love it!
Great idea. Will build it in my new house. But i think i will place the motor al little farer away. Maybe that will reduce the sound. Maybe you can tell us the manufacturer number of the motor. Thanks a lot.

This is interesting.
Gut!
did you design it or is it bought plans
Hi Terry, I made the design myself. Its my job, see also aqua helix
Very nice set up. How do you filter the oil? Also with the carbon filter?
Yes, there is no separate filter for grease. We don't have any grease problems, but we eat vegetarian, maybe when cooking meat is will become an issue. The carbon filter will capture the grease, so than you have to replace it now and then.
1400 m³ per hour is 824 CFM
What is your max CFM on that fan?
capacity is 1400 m3/h
Is the 1400 the max capacity?
Can be more than 1400 m3/h, but the noise level gets even more annoying I'm afraid.
@Victor Vek 1400m3/h in CFM IS 824 CFM
Hi, fantastic idea!!! It’s so easy to do it and cheap instead to buy it... I have a question, if I put a pipe so the smoke goes out , you think it will work?
It will work, but keep in mind that the maximum capacity is 1400 m3/h. I didn't do it because we have also a fire place,. I am afraid the smoke will go the wrong way then. A normal kitchen hood takes 300-400 m3/h, downdraft around 700 m3/h.
This is nice. I will attempt to build a similar trimaran, trailerable, light in a few years hopefully.
good idea, good luck with your plans.
if the outriggers fold backward what will stop then going back when your moving forward
Hi Terry, with click on stst wires to the bow and transom. You can see them on the video walk around.
I really like your keel design. It probably puts a lot of pressure on the rudder, but I think it's a great idea rather than a daggerboard. Do you get a good upwind gps track?
Hi Michael, the rudder is extra large for extra lift, no pressure at all. The performance will definitely be better with a daggerboard, but you have to take care for that when beaching or sailing in shallow waters.
Please can you quote the model of the fan? It is indeed, powerful! I like what I saw, and would like to make one.. All the best from Serbia!!🇷🇸🇷🇸🇷🇸
www.jr-luchttechnieken.nl/buisventilator1110/1400m3thermostaat
Great job.. How do exhaut air.. Is it only by fan or strong vaccum machine outdoor
Its only the fan, but the capacity is twice that of the official downdrafts
thank you very much for sharing. This was really helpful.
thanks, succes with your job!
Thanks for posting this. I am trying to "fix" the previous owner of my homes' attempt at a DIY downdraft hood vent. Unlike yours, mine is vented to the outside and is powered by a fan that is mounted to the exterior of the house. Currently there is no filter! So grease ends up trapped in the duct work and ultimately the fan is not nearly as powerful as yours. I am hoping to use what's there and improve it but I may end up having to build a recirculating fan such as yours. Thanks again.
Hope you can fix it and enjoy your downdraft again. For some reason we do not have any grease problem, also the filter remains quite clean. I don't know where the grease is going, but it makes life easier.
@@johnnieboer6339 How big is the opening above the counter top and how did you calculate the size of this opening?
@@johannsehmsdorf9771 opening is 700x100 mm. I didn't calculate it, in practice it suit the capacity of the fan.
exactly the thing i was looking for. I'm planning to build the same koncept, only in a corner. and i wanted to figure out if it was ok to blow the air directly at the floor.
nice to hear. it is funny how a simple diy solution is far better than complex expensive on the market products. succes with your downdraft!
@@johnnieboer6339 so far I've build the cabinet or of spare shelves I had lying around. Next is the housing for the pump. I'm adding an extra weaker fan for nonstop filtration of the air in the house photos.app.goo.gl/iG3KbRZhgUqtwAUF7
@@ondegnom that's a very nice picture, handy to use the corner this way.
@@ondegnom How did you calculate the size of the opening above your counter top?
@@johannsehmsdorf9771 no calculation, just winging it. I just measured the height of my biggest pot, and added a bit.
where does the air exhaust too once it sucks the air out?
Hi Kris, the fan blows it down to the floor, and then it goes back in the kitchen. you can feel the air along your bare feet.
@@johnnieboer6339 it blows the moist air back into the kitchen? It doesn't go outside?
@@TheChadjacobs air goes back in the room, no problem at all. the carbon filter works fine.
Love it. Might have to borrow this idea for my new kitchen.
Be my guest. I think ii works better than the sophisticated ones you can buy in the store. Suucces.
Thanks for sharing. What kind of carbon filter did you get?

Great video! its a wish of me to build my own boat on which i can live and your video is a very good blue print for me! best regards!
Mijn zeilboot (gemaakt in winter/lente 2018) is aanzienlijk kleiner, 4 meter 70.
Hi John, How and where did you place the grease filter?
What’s the overall length of the main hull?
That's 5.7 m excluding rudder
Hallo John, hoe zwaar is deze trimaran ? Dutchy Nedland
@@johnnieboer6339 Hahaha John, nee hoor. Breekwerk gaat binnenkort gebeuren.

HOW MUCH CFM ON FULL SPEED
Description says 1400 m3/h, so that's about 820 cfm. EDIT: But his comment below says 1500 m3/h, so that would be about 880 cfm.
Finally, someone with some power. Anything less than 850-900 CFM is a complete waste of time.
Nice. vYou mention crossbeams. vPerhaps they shoud be arched to be above waves.
¡Oh que lindo )
I want to do same thing. Most of the downdraft vent systems are too large to fit behind a slidein range. Where did you get the fan? it sounds a little loud or is that the video? Is yours working to exhaust odor and smoke out of the kitchen?
The fan is an in-line low sound type. It makes some noise, but the nice thing is that the capacity is twice the normal downdraft systems, and it has a variable speed, so you can set it on a reduced level with lower sound if applicable. Due to the large capacity of 1500 m3/h, I choosed for recycling air with carbon filter, which works ok.
