I see, didn't know, thanks 👍 tbh, I don't know that much about the band itself, I found out the album because a friend sent me it, and it's an amazing album; the only critic for me is that the first 2 pieces are masterpieces (also, as soon as I heard the first note of "desert girl", I went like the DiCaprio meme 🤣 "this Alan Holdsworth for sure"), but the other ones have multiple sections that are very similar to the other pieces (like in "thinking stone", that 7/8 over 4/4 polyrithm and its accents are very similar to the one in "desert girl"), but if I have to consider every piece separately from the others, they are all amazing.

Can't recall where I found the story, but Allan already recorded all of his parts for Quantum. One night he was so drunk that he ended up deleting a metric ton of it, leaving only the two previously mentioned numbers to be on the final release. I think before the deleting incident happened, Jimmy Johnson was in touch with him and suggested that Allan leave the stuff alone, as he felt it was more than good enough. Oh well... s$%^ lol

I used to listen to A LOT more instrumental music (with a focus on guitarists) in years past, probably peaking at the period of time I first had the pleasure of hearing this beautiful song for the first time; a friend's recommendation for which I will always be dearly grateful for. Point being I had listened to a great number of guitarists and by extension a great number of phenomenal solos. Probably only 10 seconds into hearing the solo for the first time, I thought it was the best I'd ever heard. By the end of it, I was blown away and absolutely convinced. That would've been around 10 or more years ago now, when I was just in my mid teens. I still consider it the best and most beautiful solo I've ever heard. I've never seen anyone else share this opinion, so it was a real joy to read your comment, Moises! It just occurred to me on this listen that another solo I love and hold in a similarly high regard actually has a scarily similar feel to this -- if you see this message, I wondered if you'd like me to share that song with you. I hope you're well, brother!

And yet, the worst is the metrics in here is just a simple 4/4... but he subverts it to make you believe we are in some weird odd meter. That's how crazy it is. Yeah, he makes even simple stuffs complicate.
