      These are more than toys.. the locomotive models you see in the clip cost hundreds of dollars each. For instance, the steam locomotive you see speeding by is worth upwards of 400+ dollars. The diesel costs about 250 to 300 dollars.

    Hello C J, nice video on your 2-10-2 locomotive! I don't own one of those yet, but plan to acquire one in the future. There is a product for decals called Solvaset, which is made by Walthers. After applying the decals & positioning them in the correct location, allow them to dry, then apply Solvaset very gently with the bottle top brush. This will soften up the decal & make it lay contour with the surface you're applying it to. While the Solvaset is still wet, look for any air bubbles, if they're any, take a sharp no.11 Exacto knife & put a small hole thru decal on the bubble. This usually lets the air escape & decal should lay flat after drying. The small hole should be undetectable after decal dries. Never touch decals after applying Solvaset, when still wet. After every thing is dry, any adhesive spots can be wiped off with a soft damp cloth, but very gently. Now you can spray clear coat, or dull coat over the entire side of engine or car, if no other decals are to be added. Clear coats hide edges of decals, will look as if they were painted on! Give it a try, good luck! P.S; never spray clear laquer unless humidity is below about 63%. Above that, you risk white spots, water like spots & unevenness.

    A gay bus??? I'd never put one of those on my layout. That really sucks, so to speak. Your freight care are probably not to NMRA standards for weight and that's the reason for the derailments.

    • @cjfauxx6266
      @cjfauxx6266 7 місяців тому

      Since this video, my layout has been changed and modernized and as for my rolling stock, I did standardize the weight, coupler type, and correct wheels per the tonnage (33" and 36") As for the bus, it actually isn't pride related at all, it's a German brand RIETZE ho scale model of a Neoplan Cityliner. the company is Becker Riesen which is a surfing tour thing I guess based on what I researched.

    Those issues that you stated Bachmann had in the 70's & 80's are what keep me from ever buying Bachmann locomotives now and in the future. I don't know about current production but I've always shied away from Bachmann. I do have an Atlas Fairbanks-Morse H15-44 in the Central of Georgia livery and a brass Hallmark Fairbanks-Morse H12-44 in the Central of Georgia livery since that's the fallen flag road I model. Maybe current production Bachmann engines have improved, I just don't know. I do keep all the plastic knuckle couplers and paint them a rust color (usually Craftsman acrylic Coffee & Creme) and use them for gondolas or flatcar loads. Cheers from eastern TN

    • @cjfauxx6266
      @cjfauxx6266 7 місяців тому

      Since the 2000's, Bachmann did improve their mechanisms but there still is the problem with split gears in some models. It is rather hit or miss nowadays and its best to do research on a model you want to buy much how like you would for a car. As for the FM H16-44 in the video, I did give it to a younger boy (he is a member) at the model railroader club I am part of, and I never had issue with this locomotive so I know it will be reliable and will last a long time for him. Plus, I am currently phasing out DC power for DCC. I just got a Digitrax DCC starter set yesterday, and I am waiting for a booster plug to come as it was missing. (I bought the set used).

    A big change of direction, and an on-going effort and interest, but how about scratch-building a B Unit?????? Use an 'any condition' second hand Lifelike E Unit as a base; cost of a damaged model should be minimal, and needed spares probably affordably obtainable (perhaps try Athearn). Just a thought.

    These were made for IHC by Mehano in Slovenia. Originally Rivarossi made these for IHC predecesor AHM up to the late 70's. Mehano continued to make these for IHC until IHC folded. The Mehano tooling is slightly different from the Rivarossi

      Хе хе. Я нашёл объявление о продаже GG1 #4800 с детализацией заклёпок и его листового кузова. Это был Rivarossi и меня впечатлил ценник - 100 000 рублей (примерно $1000)😂 В моей коллекции есть GG1 #4828 и 4880 от Mehano и вдвоём они получились за 30000 рублей. Mehano, конечно, не радует такой детализацией, как BLI или Bachmann, но я был очень рад, что смог достать их😁

    I was able to acquire one of these at a model train show however when I got it home one of the wheel connecting rods had rattled apart. I did find the micro sized piece that joined the two rods ( have you seen the size of one of these ? ) which measured probably 2mm X 1mm. My problem is how on earth do I re-join the two rods. Even with a magnifying glass it is almost impossible to see what I am doing let alone fix it and, the other rods are so flimsy I fear I will damage them if I force the issue. Any ideas or maybe a tutorial on how to fix these things. I am sure I am not the only person to have run into this issue. Any advice gratefully received otherwise it will end up as a very expensive paper weight or in the bin.

    • @cjfauxx6266
      @cjfauxx6266 8 місяців тому

      Well, that is the main problem with these old bachmanns... the plastic quality is just terrible. Mainly the gears or the axle connectors go out on these but I am unsure of what you mean by the connecting rods. Do you mean that the metal drive rods (the moving parts) broke?

    • @popeyebob9007
      @popeyebob9007 8 місяців тому

      Yes. The pin that joins two rods has come out and is defying all attempts at being put back in. To be honest I defy anyone to be able to re-fit the pin. If I could put up a photo it shows exactly what the problem is. I have a couple of ideas but they will be very dodgy and may work which would make a purist scream in horror.

    • @popeyebob9007
      @popeyebob9007 8 місяців тому

      A small rivet came out of two of the joined rods which I did find but was unable to be re-fitted. I ended up making one out of a pop rivet and after much hair pulling and naughty words was able to fix the issue. Now it has a cracked axle gear that needs replacing.
