Hi Eric don't get disheartened this is the world of reefing, just take things slowly and eventually the tanks will get back to normal and then you can start enjoying them, have a good weekend and happy reefing 🐠
Hey Jim, thank you for the words of encouragement! Much appreciated! Yes just have to keep moving forward! Enjoy the weekend and thanks for watching!
If you frag it let me know I would love to have that in my tank. I hope you can get the algae issue under control and things start getting better.
Hey there, I will definitely be fragging it shortly. Where are you located? Thanks for watching!
@ I’m located in California.

Hey there, yes nothing happens quickly in this hobby.. just have to keep pushing forward! Thanks for watching!
my duncans are the same right now but i have candy cane coral also and they are doing vey well and so is everything else i don't get it
Hey there, originally when I bought the duncans they were recessed for 2 months before the opened up. Still don't know why. These guys are unhappy with the roller coaster ride of nutrient levels. Thanks for watching!
Happy New Year, weird I have never seen my Duncans closed like that during the day. They seem to be pretty hardy!
Happy New Year! Yes they are very upset about something in the tank. Still working through it. Thanks for watching!
Bacteria bloom maybe, due to excessive nutrients...
I thought of excessive nutrients but I didn't have any? Nitrites were at 12ppm which is much higher then usual
@My525XLRedSeaReefer Small changes can set off bacteria, usually the only reason for cloudy water in an established tank... but again..saltwater tanks is a damn enigma!! You are doing better than most!
@@semisuccessfulreefer220 It's so true! It's funny because a couple of days before the outbreak I measured nitrates and they were 0 which was likely reason for the dinos.. then I go the opposite way .. honeslty.. keeps us guessing LOL
Happy New Year 🙌🏼
Thank you! Happy New Year to you too!
Happy new year 🥳 I'm hoping to get a 525xl this year fingers crossed after we have moved house 👌🏼 Tank looks good 😌
Hey Dan, Thank you and Happy New Year to you as well! Good luck on the move and looking forward to seeing some videos of the tank when you get it. Thanks for watching!
Happy new year brother!

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year 🎅🎄❤️
Thank you! Hope you had a great Christmas and have a Happy New Year!
It looks like a cowrie, I have one bigger, same shape everything, I can confirm even more if i can see the top side, mine hides a lot inside the rock structure, yes they eat algaes on rock and glass, funny you didn't buy yours? It's not that small to be a hitchhiker😅.
Hi Eric great video, roller coaster year with the tanks but glad to see them settling down, let's hope 2025 is better with fewer problems, Merry Christmas and a happy reefing New year
Thank you Jim! Yes I am hoping I can get things settled down in 2025. Hope you had a great Christmas and have a Happy New Year!
Merry xmas! Helluva year with your tank but in the end it still looks great!
Thank you my friend! I hope you had a great Christmas! Have a Happy New Year!
Can’t wait to see more updates. I have a 525xl g2 that’s a few months old
I really lke the tank. I saw there are some good updates on the g2. You won't be disappointed. Thanks for watching!
Do you have any snails? My tanks became spotless after adding a few snails
Hey there, yes I have a few as well as an urchin, They seem to be busy 😀Thanks for watching!
Lots of reasons nitrates could be climbing, but I think the most likely could be that another parameter is limiting growth, which has slowed the uptake of nitrates in the tank. This happened to me when my phosphates bottomed out for a while, which I didn’t realize was a problem. My nitrates continually climbed during this period. Could be another parameter though or even lighting can be reduced 15-30% if they haven’t been cleaned in a while. Good luck!
Hey there, thank you for the response. yes I have had other say the same. I am trying to balance them both now.... slow exercise! Thank you for watching!
@@My525XLRedSeaReefer increase phosphates with a chemical (if they are low) bc adding more food to increase your PO4 will cause your nitrates to continue to climb instead of balancing out.
@@timjohnson3913 Yes I am using Neophos
low phosphates I keep mine between 0.1-0.2
Hey there, yes I getting the same feedback.. funny I was always under the impression that they should be around .04. I need to find the right balance now. Thanks for watching!
Hey man, not an sps expert by any means but I think they would prefer lower nitrates? At least that’s what I’ve read in my research. Wwc and tidal gardens have some good info. Both reputable farms 👍👍Sounds like you had a spike too which might have upset them a little bit. But every system is different so take that with a grain of salt I suppose. I run my lps and softies around what you’ve got 15-25 and I’ve had good luck with those numbers. All of your other parameters look good tho. Maybe a little low on phosphates. Reef roids broadcast feeds will raise that. Also leaving nori in the water for the foxface helps too. Hope everything works out tho man🤘🤘beautiful tank 👍
Hey there, thank you for replying! Yes I always thought low nutrients was the way to go. Reading up you really need a balance and that's the part I'm struggling with right now. Thank you for watching!
This is going to sound so wrong… but trust me! 😂 I have 32 nitrates and 0.26 phosphates, as of yesterday. That is a bit higher than I normally have, but not by much. Believe it or not… I have VERY little algae. My corals love it. The key to my success? The ratio of nitrate to phosphate! As close to 100:1 as possible. My readings have me at a 123:1 ratio… I need to lower the nitrates closer to 26 for 100:1. I live by that rule… I don’t care if it’s 10 nitrate to 0.1 phosphate or 50 nitrate to 0.5 phosphate. For you at 7 nitrate to 0.04 phosphate, that’s a 175:1 ratio. You want to lower the nitrate to 4 or raise the phosphate to 0.07. Divide the nitrate by the phosphate, and that’s your ratio. 7 divided by 0.04 = 175. In short, your nitrate is 175 times higher than your phosphate. I dose NeoPhos from Brightwell, to keep the phosphates up to match the nitrates. Sounds weird… but that’s the secret sauce!
Thank you very much for the reply! Low phosphates seems to be the common answer in this post. Really appreciate the input!
Oh no! I wish you the best with the corals! Beautiful tank though!
Thank you!
Hi Eric, sorry to hear about the corals but true words the mysteries of a reef tank, apart from your lighting could it be a spike in temperature or salinity, hope you solve the problem without losing any more corals, happy reefing and enjoy your weekend
Hey Jim, temp and salinity have been stable. Only thing I changed was the lighting schedule. I have since set it back. Thanks for watching!
Problem after problem! Story of my reef life! This hobby is just so much fun! 🥴 Hope you get it figured out sooner than later! Happy holidays my friend!
Thanks Mike! Same to you as well!
Sorry to hear about the corals. I hope they bounce back soon!
Thank you!
Too low phosphate
Hey there, I thought they were boarder line on the high side. What do you have your at? Thanks for watching!
I keep mine from .9to.50 sometimes higher depending on how the corals are looking by color and how open especially sps and you know what they all will just some faster then other plus stopping going with hammer technique my reef tank has been running for 16 years now my record but been reefing before LEDs with Compact fluorescent and Metal Halides. Also nothing like light power or Alk spikes those will be from tips then down I’ve gotten white sps put in my tank and color back up slowly.
@@moereefer Thank you very much for the reply.I received some other responses with the same recommendations. Really appreciate your feedback! Going to se what I can do now.
@@My525XLRedSeaReefer no problem I been doing this for a very long time started with 20 gallon and four compact fluorescent lights and live rock that had so much life and corals. Back then a 4 headed torch was 30$ but it was much harder in long run. Calcium reactor or water change.
@@moereefer wow $30 a head.. big difference now lol
how are your duncans that good lol

Hi there, really? I though there was something wrong LOL. I guess you need another one to spawn with. Thanks for watching!
Hi Eric great video, good to see everything settling down and all corals doing great in the stable keep up the good work and happy reefing
Hey Jim, thank you! Finally getting the nitrates down. They measured 20 PPM tonight. Hope you are keeping well and thank you for watching!
Another great video! I saw the short and I believe the urchin was spawning but I could be wrong. What lens are you using if you don't mind me asking?
Hey there, yes that's the responses I am seeing about the urchin. Never had one before so new to me 😁 . On this video (and most of the others ) i am using my Sony RX100 VII with an orange filter on. Thanks for watching!

@@Sonny__b no worries! Any time!
SG1!! Why doesn’t SciFi channel have shows like this anymore?? Battlestar also a favorite of mine… tank looks better! Seaurchin sounds like it’s spawning. I had small feather dusters on my live rock puff like little smokers once like they were communicating via smoke signals, finally dawned on me that they were doing the nasty in my tank.😂
Gotta love the Space channel man!! Right now SG1 is on from 12 to 5 every day.. love it! LOL Yes an odd way to spawn.. mother nature!! Thanks for watching!

I think babies as well.
lol yes that's the consensus!
Looks like it's trying to make babies lol
yup that's what I'm hearing lol
Hi Eric everything going in the right direction and looks good, take it slowly when sorting out your nutrients, glad you're relaxed from the break and happy reefing
Thank Jim! Yes that's the key.. taking it slow.. kind of like cooking a brisket, low and slow! :)
Looking good as always my friend! Hope you enjoyed the vacation and happy holidays!
Thank you Mike! Happy Holidays to you too!!
Finally i beat those invasive cyanobacteria by adding a vigorous and energic water surface agitation. After a week they almost totally disappeared, try it !
Amen to that! thank you!
Also what is that red/ orange coral growing in a ball
Hi there, do you mean the coral at 0:11 seconds in it is a Favia. Thanks for watching!
What salt are you using.
Hi there, I am using Red Sea Coral Pro. Thanks for watching!
Hey, question for you. I’ve been looking at the new self leveling Red Sea skimmer and was wondering if I need to get the controller with it. I know it can be run off the reef beat app so does that mean I don’t need the actually little controller? Thanks for the help!
Hey, while I haven't used one I am reading good things about them. From what I have read you need the controller to take advantage of the DC pump.
Would you recommend the Aqua forest rock? I am starting a new IM 120 gallon tank and considering using the AF rock
Hi there, yes I would. Very easy to do and you can design what ever you want. I'm happy with mine. Thanks for watching!

Hi there, no very true. was trying to space them out. Thanks for watching.
Check your light par... looks like those acro are not geting enough light par. Try to keep acro on top untill your are sure they are geting enough light par in bottom lane.
Hey there, yes I turned down the lights due tot he algae issue but I will need to bump them up now. Thanks for watching
Think that huge spike was from that alone?
@@MikeLemming yes I think so. Had it open for over a week so essentially no skimming. Actually it may have been 2 weeks now that I think about it
