Good eye!! I'm a SciFi guy! 😀
love the tang
Thank you! He seems to be the boss of the tank.
nice setup how much are reef mats
the 1200 is around $650 now
I feel ya! That is always the reality of this hobby...constantly attention needed!...like a wife..
man I could kick myself for letting work get in the way!!
great setup. did the tank came with the skimmer and return pump?
Thank you for watching. I believe the kits do now but wasn't available when I got mine
Nice tank! 🇨🇦 I’m a Canadian reefer too! Subbed!!!
Thank you!!!
When You dose chemiclean what I maybe Rember You have to aerate put air into aquarium.
Thank you for watching. I didn't think of that. I did notice that the ORP drops when you dose though.
Awesome tank! You could consider removing the sand bed and then cranking up the flow. Alternatively, it also might help to siphon vacuum the sand bed every week as the red slime could be feeding off detritus in the sand.
Thanks Tim! I was considering do a syphon on the sand bed. Haven't done that in a long time.
How do you dose AFR? What time? Split dose or once?
Hi there. I use a doser that splits up the time evenly across 24 hours.
@@My525XLRedSeaReefer Every hour or even hour?
@@Alirachyd yes you can dose at your preference.
Take the wins while you can!
Amen to that! 😀
Keep up the great work 👌👏🙌
Thank you!!
Nice tank what are your lights?
Thank you for watching! On the 525XL I have 2 Gen 6 XR30 radion blues and 1 gen 4 XR pro. On the desktop I have 1 Red Sea LED 90.
Congrats ! Thanks & keep up the good work 😊
Thank you doe watching!!
Is that your normal flow rate, maybe you could increase it to see if it helps. Good luck.
Hi Desmond thanks for watching! I did bump the flow up but the torch was getting battered around. I may consider trading in the torch....
Could I put one capful off liquid just for reef in my 6 foot b Ang i do waterchanges weekly cheers
I would read the directions. First you should do tests and see what your parameters are. No point in dosing if you don't need to.
The battle is real!! Tank still looks good. Have you considered higher flow rates maybe?
hey my friend! Hope you are well. I did bump up the flow a week ago but the torch didn't like it at all. I'm actually thinking of do a trade tot he LFS.. all the other corals are SPS now. Was thinking maybe the seahorse tank but not sure it would be good for the horses?
@@My525XLRedSeaReefer yea seahorses can get stung by sweepers...so probably better not not
@@semisuccessfulreefer220 yup googled it right after I responded it lol.. then also realized i still have more softies in there anyway.
Still looking good regardless of that red slime. I’m dealing with the some brown diatom/dino stuff. Not even really sure what it is. I get it off the rocks and out of the sand and it comes right back within hours. Just added a uv so we will see. 🤞🏼
Thanks Mike! I personally like the UV's I run it on both my tanks. I think I had the same issue. Have you tried lights out for a couple of days?
@@My525XLRedSeaReefer yes, I did a full 4 day with cardboard and all. It eventually came back.. so frustrating!
Thank you ! I'm looking forward to seeing how you beat it 😊
@@MikeLemming oh man.. it's so deflating sometimes!!
@@lovermansmith9082 So am I LOL. been doing a lights out now ... on day number 2.. let's see how it goes..
Chemiclean only really kills cyano and other bacteria. Are you sure that’s not Dino’s on the sand? If it is chemiclean won’t do anything for it
Hi there, Thanks for responding! I think it's Cyano.. red in color but now you have me thinking. Iv'e reduced my nitrates down to 19PPM which is in the normal range for my tank. Phosphates are .05 though.. I'll keep at it.
@@My525XLRedSeaReefer I don’t think nitrate and phosphate affects Dino’s or Cyano. I had 0,0 multiple times and still had it.
@@ReefingwithO I've been racking my brain to come upe with what has changed and I got nothing... it's really stumped me,
Beautiful aquarium my friend.
Thank you my friend! Appreciate you watching! Hope all is goos with you!
Just watched your video on all for reef, are you still using it? Your sps coral growth is amazing
Hey there! Thanks for watching! Yes I am still dosing AFR. I don't think I will change as it seems to work well for me. I'm currently dosing 35ml a day.
@@My525XLRedSeaReefer thanks for replying I’ve really been trying to dial in AFR on my system and will take that into count!
I hope every person who makes a setup tour video and does not show where they plug everything in should be put in jail.
LOL that could be one looooong video depending on what they are hooking up.
After you run chemiclean, you need to add good bacteria back in, or it will happen again. A good one is seed from aquavitro. I would also use it whenever you do a water change. I dont know what you dose for alk but kalk works wonders and can help raise ph which can also help with the algae not coming back.
Thank you very much for the information! I was not aware that you need to add good bacteria in again. Shows how much I use Cheimclean.. Really appreciate the input!
Hi Eric, sorry to hear about your goby, I think some strains of cyano can be toxic and might have led to his demise , high phosphates and iron can cause outbreaks and it tends to grow faster in warmer water , but higher alkalinity tends to discourage it, hope this helps and if it was easy where would the fun be, stay positive happy reefing, working and keeping a reef tank is pretty hard work
Thank you Jim! I really appreciate the insight!! Going to do some more water changes this weekend depending on what my nitrates/phosphates look like today. I really liked that goby. Not going to replace him until the cyano is gone though. Thanks again and happy reefing!
Maybe some crabs can find that goby 😊. Good Luck 😊
Hey thanks for watching! Yes good point. I don't have any crabs in either tank for that matter. Might be a reason to go to the LFS on a rainy day like today :)
How was it removing the filter sock holders and silicon? i have a red sea reefer 525 xl as well and just purchased the reefmat1200 and have todo the same thing!
Hey thanks for watching! It wasn't bad once I used the right tools. I started off by using an exacto knife and it was useless. Once I purchased kit (forget what is called now) it was ok. Just have to take your time.
Is that 130 gallon?. A 2 gallon water change will reduce your nitrates by .5ppm or less.
Hi there.. yes it is. Been doing regular, steady changes as I don't want a sudden drop. Down to 26ppm now.
Good video I have the opposite problem I can’t raise mine 😂
Thank you!. Yes I have had a few people responding with the same issue.
Damn, the tank has come a long way!!
wow I haven't looked back this far.. too funny!
@@My525XLRedSeaReefer just looking up this dose..
@@MikeLemming It's pretty good. Never had ay issues with it.
@@My525XLRedSeaReefer how did you connect it to a dosing container? It comes with 4mm tubing but all the containers are setup for 1/4 inch (6mm)?
@@MikeLemming Hey Mike i just used the standard tubbing (5ml i believe) and connected it to the Red Sea bottle (500 or 100ml).. it has a nipple/connector on the lid that you can cut to size.
Glad you figured that out! I’m having issues but on the other direction.. can’t seem to raise my phosphates up. I’ve even been feeding reef foods daily and NeoPhos daily but still reading zero. I’ve slowly been dialing back the fuge photo period with little success..
Thanks Mike! Yes you still having the same issue? That's a long time. Do you keep your skimmer on 7/24?
@@My525XLRedSeaReefer yes but today, I actually took off the drain plug so now it’s just for aeration. For the time being anyway..
Hi Eric, great video stable looking good and Duncan's opened up well, have you ever tried Dr Tim's refresh and waste away to treat the cyano, it's beneficial bacteria and there's a 14 day programme you can look online might be worth a try anyway have a good weekend and happy reefing
Hey Jim! No I haven't sued that product before.. I will google it and check it out Thank you!! Same to you :)
Good catch! I stopped auto feeders years ago for that same reason...I could never achieve consistent feedings..
Yes I totally gapped on the size of the pellets.. not=w the challenges seems to be getting the nitrates back down...
Have you got the red and green turned of on your light system all those two colours are good for is growing cyano, that aside try an hour less per day with the lights and maybe you might want some crabs and snails.
Hey thanks for watching. Yes my reds and greens on the G4 are set to 7%. on the G6 Blue there is not green. Red is set to 7% as well. I''m going to do a lights out for a day or 2 and see how it goes. Been stable for quite some time. I think my nitrates got a little too high.. did 2 water changes this weekend so that will help.
Looks like cyano to me.. hit it with some chemo-clean!
Hey Mike! Thanks for watching! Yes the verdict seem to be Cyano for the win LOL. I'm holding off on the chemiclean .. see if I can beat it first
@@My525XLRedSeaReefer I’ve heard people not wanting to use chemi clean, I’ve never had an issue with it though. Quick and easy fix
@@MikeLemming Dont drop chemical.Keep your water change schedule and suck it when you clean your tank. It will go away with time .-
@@MikeLemming yup I used it a few times now with 100% success. I just like to try the obvious issues before I go to dosing.. going to to lights out for 2 days and see.
@@My525XLRedSeaReefer what are the obvious issues though?
Hi Eric, looks like cyano, some water changes and remove as much manually or Dr Tim's refresh and waste away on a 14 day programme which you can look up online, it worked for me and then I started using Tropic Marin Bacto Balance to controlmy nutrients so far so good, the stable loos good and will be even better when the duncan opens up, stay positive and happy reefing
Looks like Cyano, water changes & some will probably clear that up soon. Tank looks great tho corals & fish 👌🏼
Thank you for watching! Yes that's what I was thinking as well. Going to do another water change tomorrow!
Probably cyano, high or low nitrates can cause that.. usually cyclical. But you usually stay on top of your numbers so it will probably start going away with some water changes and maybe decreased light cycle. Tank still looks great!
Thanks for watching my friend! Hope you are keeping well! I was thinking cyano too. Going to do another water change tomorrow. :)
Hey man, I use my Hannah checkers and calibrate my trident using those numbers :)
Hey man, yes that's a good plan. The trident is ok but it's not as accurate as we would like.
Right! I am kinda unimpressed by it. I mainly use it just to look at the trend. Mine isn’t off by much but it’s still off. I hope that works for you tho.
@@Nasty_boii_reef thank man!!! Gonna give it a shot
Looks Great ! Would you please tell what those 3 fussy balls are on the left . One may be a Duncan ? Like the movement . Did You 3d printed that Rouge ? Looks like nice work . 😊. It's cool to see the growth of your coral
Hi there! Thanks for watching. Yes they are duncans. I wast huge so cut it into 3 pieces. Yes I've been hoked on resin printing lately. I ned more practice in painting though LOL. Thanks again!
Beautiful tank. Can you tell rough PAR numbers?
Thank you. Towards the top of the tank it's about 350. bottom is 150-180
🙌💯🔥👏
Thank you for watching!
How many scoops do i need of bio magnesium to mix 1 liter of rodi water ???
Hi, I believe the instructions say 12 grams for a 1 liter mix.
Hi Eric, another great video tanks are looking good as well as the big girl on the shelf excellent job, the amount of coralline algae in both tanks suggests you're doing everything right and all corals are happy, happy reefing and have a nice holiday
Thank you Jim!! Appreciate you watching!! Hope you had a great holiday too!
Well done on the growth!!
Thank you Mike!
I love the hydros controller. The power bars you have get rid of them and buy the wired power bar. Those you have are not reliable at all. Hydros is user-friendly. And simple to use. Compared to apex. And has a tone of dyi features. Apex does not offer this. They have there own tester that link up with hydros that dose more than the trident apex has. .
Hi there. Appreciate you watching! Did you have issues with those power bars? So far I really like it. I saw the tester as well.. looks good as well! Do you have the tester? if so how do you like it?
What kind of leather is that in the back?
Hi there, it's a pink finger leather coral.
Keep both coming. I love the hulk 👏🔥💯🙌 What Hanna Checker do you use for PH? The one you add 5 drops and have the device read the color change?
Hey there! Thanks for watching! Yes the one you add 5 drops.
@@My525XLRedSeaReefer ah. Yes. I used that one too. Found out my brs probe was bad. I had a hand held one too. Both Hanna and hand held read higher than BRS probe? Bought a Milwaukee probe and read very similar to Hanna and hand held one so going with that. No more brs probes for me.
@@queencityreefs I have to check it again once it settles down. I'll give it another week then check it.
Looking good Eric! I’ve been contemplating the Hydros for a while. We will see.. when was the last time you calibrated your apex ph probe? That may be the issue..
Thanks Mike! SO far I really like the Hydros. Very simple to set up and I like the UI. Yes it has been at least 6 months since I calibrated the Apex. That's a good point! Thank you for watching!
Hi Eric, the hulk looks great definitely a steady hand required there, sorry to hear about the cardinal but if he's not about when lights out fear the worst, I agree with you the hydros looks to have a simpler face but I'm looking through some very old eyes, great video and happy reefing
Thank you Jim! Yes I finally found it.. on the bottom underneath one of the rocks. Sad. I get the odd fish that just won't eat and 1 week latter it's gone. So far I am impressed with the Hydros. Apex definitely has some worthy competition in my opinion. Thanks for watching!
I think you'll love the X3. And if you find you need or want more functionality adding modules is super easy.
Hi there! Thanks for watching. I have installed it and so far I really like it. Very user friendly. Last thing I have to do is set up the PH probe.
That’s why I don’t like all in one tank. It ruins my floor too. That is why I took it down.
oh sorry to hear that! Luckily my tank is in the basement and there wasn't too much water.
