ok i understand the lethality of pikes and spear walls to counter cavalry charges, but you could just wedge into one of the wall. two or four guys won’t be able to hold like a dozen horses pushing forward. why are you going into the gap they clearly open for you to get in that is definitely not a trap? edit: wait the soldiers just have giant shields they dont even have spears, like yea difect line or fire = scary but the archers even firing at will are not machine guns. weakest cavalry unit in history smh. edit 2: ok so enemy do have spears, then whats the difference of getting trapped and cornered from all side versus taking a few casualty to break enemy formation? edit 3: full stack vs solo q be like. it’s like they’re a death trap or a machine that coordinates flawlessly lmao edit 4: I get the narrative point of sending your heroes/generals out for a legendary fight scene but you have like 1000000 other dude standing by with a few stragglers of around 30 running around their maze. you could just, idk, use numerical advantage? Depending where the angle of apporach is from. And to command a large army requires lots of managment and deceptions to confuse the enemy into guessing how many men you have. Formation such as this was for attack and defense and shifting shield walls and interchanging formations to trap the enemy or repel the enemy cavalry.
